Spotted Ratings, Weekend Roundup 9/7-9/8/12

WHAT MATTERS:
  • The ratings for the biyearly "Stand Up to Cancer" simulcast are not counted in any averages, though the big four had a combined 2.1 18-49 rating in the preliminaries. America's Next Top Model had a pretty nice spike as the only alternative option on the broadcasters. I don't want to make too much of it, but this kinda helps to illustrate why the CW is premiering a couple of their new shows against big-four debate simulcasts later in the fall. We'll see if the extra sampling helps Top Model moving forward.
  • Saturday brought some big redemption for week two of the new CFB on Fox, which posted nearly three times the rating of its week-ago 0.6 debut thanks to a good Nebraska/UCLA game and no competing action on ABC. The importance of the "game quality" in college football is on display in that comparison, as the game only started three tenths higher than last week's (1.1 vs. 0.8 in the 8:00 half-hour). It beat the Washington/LSU rout on ESPN (1.0) but still narrowly lost the primetime football race to Georgia/Missouri on ESPN2 (1.7).

Wow, they actually released separate ratings for the rain delay? I'm surprised...and intrigued.
