  • ABC was even-ish in the first half of the night with The Goldbergs (0.9), Schooled (0.6) and the penultimate week of Modern Family (0.9), but improved from there with American Housewife (0.7) hitting its best number since its return to Wednesday and a David Blaine special (0.7) outrating usual occupant Stumptown at 10/9c.
  • CBS' Survivor (1.6) led into a Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood special (0.8) which narrowly improved on SEAL Team's usual level.

Spotted Ratings, Monday 3/30/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Shifting its remaining American Idol content to Sundays, ABC was lower but still fine in the first two hours with a Celebrity Family Feud repeat (0.9) and another coronavirus 20/20 special (0.8). But despite the lower lead-in, The Good Doctor (1.1) ticked up for the second half of its season finale.
  • NBC was close to last week with The Voice (1.6/1.7) and Manifest (0.7), while Fox's 9-1-1 (1.3) and Prodigal Son (0.7) inched down.
  • The CW replaced Supernatural with an hour of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.2/0.2), including an original at 8/7c, and Roswell, New Mexico fell to 0.1 at 9/8c. CBS had comedy repeats (0.7/0.6/0.5/0.6) and a James Corden special (0.5).

  • On CBS, 60 Minutes (1.0) was down a bit leading into the return of God Friended Me (0.6) at 8/7c, but the NCIS spin-offs (0.7) stayed strong in the second half of the night.
  • NBC dramas Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.4) and Good Girls (0.5) were even, but their unscripted lead-ins Little Big Shots (0.4) and The Wall (0.5) lost some juice earlier in the night.

  • The stars of last week's show, Shark Tank (0.9) and The Blacklist (0.6) both came back to earth but still had their second-biggest ratings of the season. 20/20 (0.7), Dateline (0.6) and WWE SmackDown! (0.7) each lost a tenth while the CW's Charmed (0.2) and Dynasty (0.1) returned even.

  • Fox (0.8/0.6/0.6) and the CW (0.1/0.2) matched last week's prelims (Last Man Standing adjusted up in finals last week).

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 3/25/20

FINALS UPDATE: Survivor (1.7) and The Masked Singer (2.2) adjusted up while LEGO Masters (1.1) adjusted down.

  • Ratings stayed high but on average were down a bit from last Wednesday. ABC's 8/7c hour took the biggest hit, with The Goldbergs (0.9) and Schooled (0.6) each dropping two tenths. The rest of the night held up, as American Housewife (0.6) and Stumptown (0.5) were even despite a repeat of Modern Family (0.5) at 10/9c.
  • Fox's The Masked Singer (2.1) inched down, but LEGO Masters (1.2) was even. The night's lone riser was Chicago Med (1.4), while the other two Chicago dramas (1.3/1.2) matched last week. CBS was flat with Survivor (1.6) and SEAL Team (0.7) but down a notch with S.W.A.T. (0.5).

Council of Dads
Tuesdays, 10/9c, NBC

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/24/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • NBC previewed new drama Council of Dads (0.7) after the season finale of This Is Us (1.7), which rocketed to its highest rating since October and was just two tenths below last year's finale. NBC also had a second straight new season high from Ellen's Game of Games (1.4) at 8/7c. As for Council, it came in below last week's episode of New Amsterdam, and also a tenth behind last year's premiere of The Village which had a 0.8 after a 1.7 lead-in from This Is Us.
  • After missing out on last Tuesday's fun, CBS returned to all originals in a big way, with NCIS (1.3) tying its season high and the Dick Wolf duo of FBI (1.1) and FBI: Most Wanted (1.0) exploding to new ones.
  • ABC (1.1/0.7/0.6/0.6/0.6) was down a notch leading off with The Conners but even elsewhere. Fox's The Resident (0.8) and Empire (0.7) matched last week.

  • NBC was more in line with last week with The Voice (1.8/1.7) and Manifest (0.8). 9-1-1 (1.3) lost a notch but Prodigal Son (0.8) preliminarily gained one, and the CW's Supernatural (0.3) inched up in its second Monday episode.

Monday, March 23, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 3/22/20

FINALS UPDATE: America's Funniest Home Videos (1.0), Little Big Shots (0.6, -0.2), The Simpsons (R) (0.4, -0.2) and Bob's Burgers (0.5) adjusted down.

  • This Sunday looked relatively like the last Sunday, though with even more juice early in the evening presumably due to news lead-ins. ABC opened on a new season high for America's Funniest Home Videos (1.1) but was close to last week with American Idol (1.3/1.4) and The Rookie (0.8).
  • NBC flipped Little Big Shots (0.8) to 7/6c with The Wall (0.6) at 8/7c, which provided a big boost to LBS. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist remained at 0.4, while Good Girls was back up to 0.5.
  • After 60 Minutes (1.2) increased again for CBS, the network subbed in an NCIS repeat (0.6) at 8/7c and saw further upticks for NCIS: Los Angeles (0.8) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.7).
  • Fox's The Simpsons (0.6), Duncanville (0.4) and Bob's Burgers (0.6) along with the CW (0.2/0.2) matched last week.

Saturday, March 21, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Friday 3/20/20

FINALS UPDATE: Hawaii Five-0 (R) (0.7) adjusted up.

  • On another night with increased viewing plus CBS in repeats because it had been planning on March Madness, ABC and NBC took major advantage. 8/7c occupants Shark Tank (1.1) and The Blacklist (0.8) exploded, each topping their previous season highs by multiple tenths.
  • The growth was there but not quite as profound for their lead-out newsmagazines 20/20 (0.8) and Dateline (0.6/0.7), as well as for WWE SmackDown! (0.8/0.7) on Fox.

Friday, March 20, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Thursday 3/19/20

FINALS UPDATE: Bob Hearts Abishola (R) (0.6) and Last Man Standing (0.9) adjusted up while Young Sheldon (R) (0.6) and Mom (R) (0.6) adjusted down.

  • Thursday brought another huge slew of upticks. This one might seem noteworthy because we're comparing against numbers that had already started to move upward, though the big winner last Thursday was CBS which was in repeats on this night.
  • Almost everything on NBC hit a new season high, from Superstore (0.9) to Will and Grace (0.7) to Indebted (0.5). (Only Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.7) merely managed to tie its season high, and its previous high was not in the 8:30 timeslot.) A news special (0.9) aired at 10/9c.
  • ABC got multiple-tenth growth from Station 19 (1.3) and Grey's Anatomy (1.5), marking a new season high for Station, while A Million Little Things (0.7) was up a notch.
  • Fox was up two tenths with Last Man Standing (0.8) and one apiece for Outmatched (0.6) and Deputy (0.6). The CW's Katy Keene (0.1) and Legacies (0.2) were even.

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 3/18/20

FINALS UPDATE: Survivor (1.6) adjusted up while SEAL Team (0.7) adjusted down.

  • The coronavirus-fueled TV ratings upswing continued, led by Fox with a three-tenth uptick for The Masked Singer (2.2) and two tenths for LEGO Masters (1.2). NBC's Chicago Med (1.3), Chicago Fire (1.3) and Chicago PD (1.2) were about two tenths higher than normal.
  • The other two networks had more modest increases, as ABC opened with a new season high from The Goldbergs (1.1) and increases for Schooled (0.8) and Modern Family (0.9), but American Housewife (0.6) had a rather quiet return to Wednesday night. At 10/9c, Stumptown was back up to 0.5 for the first time since early January.
  • CBS looked only about a tenth higher than normal with Survivor (1.5), SEAL Team (0.8) and S.W.A.T. (0.6).

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/17/20

FINALS UPDATE: NCIS (R) (0.9) and New Amsterdam (0.8) adjusted up while Mixed-ish (0.6) adjusted down.

  • On another night presumably affected by a coronavirus-fueled surge in viewing levels, the standouts were ABC's The Conners (1.2) and NBC's Ellen's Game of Games (1.3). ABC's other comedies (0.7/0.7/0.6) benefited to a lesser extent as well, while For Life remained at 0.6. NBC's This Is Us (1.4) was up big vs. last week, though it was largely a rebound from last week's disaster against The Bachelor finale, and New Amsterdam (0.7) was even.
  • Fox's dramas (0.8/0.7) and CW's The Flash (0.4) were up a tenth. CBS (0.8/0.8/0.8) was in repeats (aside from FBI: Most Wanted).

Spotted Ratings, Monday 3/16/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

Monday, March 16, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 3/15/20

FINALS UPDATE: 60 Minutes (1.1) adjusted up.

  • The big three networks all looked stronger than usual in the 7/6c hour, with the original return of America's Funniest Home Videos (1.0) tying CBS' 60 Minutes (1.0) and NBC bringing back The Wall (0.6).
  • It did not particularly translate to the rest of primetime, though CBS' drama lineup was up a little with God Friended Me (0.6) and a double dip of NCIS: New Orleans (0.6). Fox's The Simpsons (0.6), Bob's Burgers (0.6) and Family Guy (0.6) all rebounded from last week's ugliness.
  • NBC was Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and Good Girls re-converge at 0.4. ABC was even with American Idol (1.3) and The Rookie (0.8), as was the CW drama duo (0.2/0.2).

Spotted Ratings, Friday 3/13/20

FINALS UPDATE: MacGyver (0.7) adjusted up.

  • Shark Tank (0.8) stayed on top of broadcast Friday in its third week back on the night, and its lead-out 20/20 (0.7) stayed on the high end as well.
  • NBC finished the season of Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt For the Bone Collector (0.6/0.5), with the show its eyeing its first 0.6 since the series premiere. CBS was even with MacGyver (0.6) and up a notch with Hawaii Five-0 (0.7) and Blue Bloods (0.7).

Friday, March 13, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Thursday 3/12/20

FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (1.1) adjusted up while Deputy (0.5) adjusted down.

  • CBS comedy newbies The Unicorn (0.7) and Carol's Second Act (0.7) both finished their seasons on an uptick, getting help from their respective lead-ins Young Sheldon (1.1) and Mom (0.8). It was Sheldon's highest rating in 2020. Tommy posted another 0.5 at 10/9c.

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/10/20

FINALS UPDATE: For Life (0.6, -0.2) adjusted down.

  • The Bachelor (2.4) exploded to another new season high for the Tuesday portion of the season finale, and this time it managed to tie the year-ago 2.4 finale. This was one of the biggest non-football-boosted entertainment episodes of the season, right on par with The Masked Singer's fall premiere (2.5) and the first couple Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time episodes (2.4). And its 2.3 in adults 18-34 beat all of those easily.
    • The huge lead-in provided a two-tenth boost to drama newbie For Life (0.8), a new series high for the show despite just one-third retention.
  • NBC's This Is Us (1.1) got mowed down by the female-skewing competition, deep into series low territory and down by three tenths vs. two weeks ago. It had a double whammy since its lead-in went back to being Ellen's Game of Games (0.9) at 8/7c. New Amsterdam (0.7) was even at 10/9c.
  • Back for the first time in three weeks, the CBS dramas (1.0/0.8/0.6) all dropped a tenth. Fox's The Resident (0.7) lost a tenth while Empire (0.6) was even, and the CW's The Flash (0.3) is headed for a new series low unless it gets help in finals.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Monday 3/9/20

FINALS UPDATE: All Rise (0.6) adjusted up while Bull (0.6) adjusted down.

  • Night one of The Bachelor season finale surged to a new season high 2.1, off by just two tenths from the same night a year ago. The Good Doctor (0.9) inched up at 10/9c.
  • NBC was the hardest hit against a stronger ABC, as The Voice (1.3) fell by two tenths and Manifest (0.6) lost a tenth at 10/9c.
  • CBS had a mostly solid return from a couple weeks off with the comedies (0.9/0.7) even and Bull (0.7) up, though All Rise (0.5) had a rough time in the middle.
  • Fox was on the map with the two-hour season finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.9), while season finale night saw the 0.3 streak finally end for the CW's All American (0.2).

Monday, March 9, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 3/8/20

FINALS UPDATE: Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.3) adjusted down.

  • In its third week after American Idol (1.3), The Rookie (0.8) bounced back to preliminarily tie its season high from two weeks ago.
  • NBC also had growth in the 10/9c hour as Good Girls rose to its first 0.5 of the season. But the rest of the night remained a major mess, as Little Big Shots (0.4) got even lower in its second Sunday airing and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.4) stayed low.
  • The other big four networks had rough starts to Daylight Saving as CBS dropped a notch with 60 Minutes (0.8), God Friended Me (0.5) and NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6). Fox's The Simpsons (0.5), Bob's Burgers (0.5) and Family Guy (0.5) fell as well. The CW (0.2/0.2) was even.

Thursday, March 5, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 3/4/20

FINALS UPDATE: LEGO Masters (0.9) adjusted down.

  • On ABC, a two-hour Nik Wallenda special (0.7) produced about the same average ratings as the usual comedy block, and Stumptown (0.4) was unchanged at 10/9c.
  • NBC's Chicago trio (1.0/1.1/1.0) came back to earth somewhat after last week's big return. Fox (1.8/1.0), the CW (0.2/0.1) and CBS (1.4/0.6/0.5) all matched last week's hourly averages, with S.W.A.T. returning in the 10/9c hour for the eye.

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/3/20

FINALS UPDATE: ABC Super Tuesday (0.4) and CBS Super Tuesday (0.3) adjusted down.

  • While the three-hour networks all went with Super Tuesday coverage (led by NBC (0.6)), Fox reunited its fall drama duo of The Resident (0.8) and Empire (0.6). Resident preliminarily took advantage against the lack of entertainment competition, hitting its highest rating since December, but Empire tied its fall low (set during Thanksgiving week).

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Monday 3/2/20

FINALS UPDATE: Prodigal Son (R) (0.3) adjusted down.

  • The Bachelor (1.8/1.7) inched down narrowly on Women Tell All night, allowing a steady week two of The Voice (1.5) to pull a bit closer. At 10/9c, The Good Doctor (0.8) remained on top as Manifest (0.7) got only a little boost in its first season two airing with a Voice lead-in.
  • The only other originals, 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.9) and the CW dramas (0.3/0.2), were even.

Monday, March 2, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 3/1/20

FINALS UPDATE: Family Guy (0.6) adjusted up while Little Big Shots (R) (0.3) adjusted down.

  • The return to Sunday for Little Big Shots (0.5) was a dud, falling below the series' lowest Plus on the night in its last run in 2018. That also meant no help to the lead-out drama duo, as Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist fell back to 0.4 at 9/8c and Good Girls (0.4) stayed there.
  • ABC's American Idol (1.3) and The Rookie (0.7) each shed a tenth, as did all four of the Fox comedies (0.6/0.4/0.6/0.5). The only show with some positive movement was CBS' NCIS: Los Angeles (0.7), building on its lead-in from God Friended Me (0.6), while NCIS: New Orleans (0.5) lost a tenth at 10/9c.

Saturday, February 29, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Friday 2/28/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Longtime Friday staple Shark Tank (0.7) returned to the night for the first time in almost three years and got a strong welcome, topping its last five Sunday episodes and tying American Housewife's season high in the slot. Its lead-out 20/20 (0.6) also picked up some steam.
  • CBS' Hawaii Five-0 (0.7) got an uptick on the night after its surprise cancellation, building on MacGyver (0.6). NBC (0.4/0.5/0.6) and the CW (0.2/0.1) were even-ish while Fox's WWE (0.8) was on the high end.

Thursday, February 27, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 2/26/20

FINALS UPDATE: The Masked Singer (1.8) adjusted up.

  • NBC got a big return from the Chicago trio, with Chicago Med (1.2) and Chicago Fire (1.2) both rising vs. two weeks ago and Chicago PD (1.2) getting the biggest bounce (since it was the second half of a crossover with Fire).
  • They dominated CBS' two-hour return of SEAL Team (0.6/0.5), which came in toward the low end of what Criminal Minds had been doing in the last couple months. Survivor (1.4) was even at 8/7c, pulling much closer to a sagging The Masked Singer (1.7) on Fox.
  • ABC was original with The Goldbergs (0.8) but then had an hour of repeats (0.5/0.5) leading into an original Single Parents (0.5), and a Shark Tank retrospective at 10/9c (0.4) proved unable to improve on the usual Stumptown results. The CW (0.2/0.1) was even.

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 2/25/20

FINALS UPDATE: Democratic Presidential Debate (2.5, +0.3) adjusted up while Democratic Presidential Debate Analysis (0.8) adjusted down.

  • In its first Democratic presidential debate of the 2020 cycle, CBS (2.0/2.3) put up the highest preliminary ratings of the cycle to date, at least 10% ahead of last week's debate on NBC (which had a 1.8 prelim/2.1 final).
  • Elsewhere, The Conners (0.9) cooled off after a strong last couple episodes, but ABC's other comedies (0.6/0.5/0.5) were even, and For Life (0.6) continued to show promise by holding steady in week three.
  • NBC's This Is Us (1.4) and New Amsterdam (0.7) got minor boosts from the return of The Voice (1.4) in the 8/7c hour. Fox had a double-dose of 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.6/0.6) and the CW (0.4/0.2) was even.

Tuesday, February 25, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Monday 2/24/20

FINALS UPDATE: The Neighborhood (R) (0.6) and Little Big Shots (0.8) adjusted down.

  • NBC had an all-unscripted start to its spring Mondays as the season premiere of The Voice (1.5/1.6) was down in Plus from the 2.1 premiere last spring, and a bit below the 1.7 fall premiere. It led into a preview of Little Big Shots (0.9) now hosted by Melissa McCarthy, which will return to its longtime Sunday 8/7c timeslot later this week.
  • ABC's The Bachelor (1.9) tied its season high and was up from the year-ago Voice premiere night, but The Good Doctor (0.8) fell at 10/9c. Fox's 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.9) is eyeing a new series low, while the CW's All American (0.3) preliminarily continued its recent 0.3 streak.

FINALS UPDATE: The Simpsons (0.7) adjusted up.

  • Week two of American Idol (1.3/1.4) dropped a bit but proved a helpful lead-in for The Rookie (0.8), vaulting the sophomore cop drama to a new season high.
  • There was some other upward momentum on the second Sunday of the spring, as CBS' drama trio (0.6/0.6/0.6) bounced back a somewhat (especially God Friended Me at 8/7c), while Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.5) inched up as well in its second Sunday episode.
  • The Fox cartoons (0.6/0.5/0.7/0.6) were closer to even (with The Simpsons down a notch and Bob's Burgers up one), as were the CW's dramas (0.2/0.2).

Spotted Ratings, Friday 2/21/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • The double-episode series finale of Fresh Off the Boat (0.5/0.4) came back after two weeks off and looked like a pretty standard episode for the show, while 20/20 (0.4) remained low in the last two hours.
  • CBS' MacGyver (0.6) and Hawaii Five-0 (0.6) came down a bit from their recent hot streaks, while NBC (0.4/0.5/0.7) and Fox (0.7) and the return of the CW's dramas (0.2/0.1) were all even.

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 2/19/20

FINALS UPDATE: Democratic Presidential Debate (2.1, +0.3) and The Masked Singer (2.0) adjusted up while Chicago Med (R) (0.7) adjusted down.

  • Criminal Minds wrapped up its 15-season run with a two-hour finale averaging 0.8 in both hour, up by two tenths from last week and the second-highest rating of the season. It had help from a strong week two for Survivor (1.4), which built on last week's premiere.
  • Fox also grew in the 8/7c hour with The Masked Singer (1.9), but the erosion continued at 9/8c for week three of LEGO Masters (1.0). On ABC (0.8/0.6/0.7/0.6/0.4), Modern Family had a brutal night, falling to a new series low the week after its Paris uptick.
  • The 9/8c shows may have suffered a bit due to NBC's Democratic presidential debate (1.7/1.8), which dominated the last two hours. It did roughly as well as the biggest debates of the cycle back in the summer (1.6/1.9 prelims for two nights in June which adjusted up to 1.8/2.2, then a 1.9 prelim in September which adjusted up to a 2.1).

  • ABC's The Conners (1.1) continued a strong February by matching last week's live episode, but lead-out comedies Bless This Mess (0.6), Mixed-ish (0.5) and Black-ish (0.5) all matched their lows. Week two of For Life (0.6) hung in there at 10/9c, losing only a tenth and topping its lead-in again.
  • On NBC, This Is Us (1.3) dropped a notch but lead-in Ellen's Game of Games (1.0) and lead-out New Amsterdam (0.7) were both up. CBS' drama trio (1.1/0.9/0.7) gained a tenth across the board. Fox (0.7/0.6) was even as The Resident returned to originals, as was the CW (0.4/0.2).

FINALS UPDATE: Manifest (0.6), 9-1-1: Lone Star (1.0, -0.2) and Prodigal Son (0.6) adjusted down.

  • On finale night for America's Got Talent: The Champions (1.1/1.2), the show was up a tenth from its usual preliminary hours, while Manifest (0.7) also went up a notch.
  • It was another big night for Fox's 9-1-1: Lone Star (1.2), which bounced back nearly to its Super Monday result, while Prodigal Son (0.7) was even at 9/8c. Fox's lineup (1.2/0.7) could shift in finals due to NASCAR overrun.
  • CBS was even with its comedies (0.9/0.7) and down a notch with its dramas (0.6/0.6), while ABC was close to last week with The Bachelor (1.8/1.9) and The Good Doctor (0.9). And the CW's All American continued a promising recent run with another preliminary 0.3.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 2/16/20

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • The broadcast Sunday spring began a couple weeks earlier than usual this year, and on top as usual was ABC with a healthy two-hour return for American Idol (1.4/1.5), down about 15% from the year-ago 1.7 premiere. The Idol opener led into an encore of the For Life pilot (0.6), which was within striking distance of the first-run rating on Tuesday.
  • The scripted premieres showed a lot less promise. Fox opened new animated comedy Duncanville (0.5) at 8:30, dropping by two tenths from its The Simpsons (0.7) lead-in and also getting out-rated by the lead-out veterans Bob's Burgers (0.6) and Family Guy (0.6).
  • And NBC could not drum up interest in its female-skewing drama duo of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.4, down two tenths from its January preview) and Good Girls (0.4). Good Girls was down three tenths from last year's spring premiere (0.7), when it had a much better lead-in from World of Dance (1.0).
  • On CBS, NCIS: New Orleans (0.5) made the move to Sunday at 10/9c, where it was within a tenth of its NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6) lead-in. The clear weak link in the CBS drama trio was God Friended Me, tying its series low with a 0.4 at 8/7c. The CW's Batwoman (0.2) and Supergirl (0.2) also returned.

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Week two of the Fox unscripted lineup saw a two-tenth decline for The Masked Singer (1.8) and a steep-ish 25% decline for newbie LEGO Masters (1.2).
  • Fox had another tough unscripted competitor as Survivor (1.3) returned for its two-hour 40th season premiere. The show took a roughly league-average decline vs. its spring 2019 premiere (1.6).
  • ABC got upticks from Modern Family (0.9) and Single Parents (0.6) on the night of Modern's Paris episode, but The Goldbergs (0.8) inched down to lead off the night. NBC's Chicago trio (1.1/1.1/1.0) looked normal, as did the CW's Riverdale (0.2).

FINALS UPDATE: The Flash (0.4) adjusted up while Mixed-ish (0.5) adjusted down.

  • ABC showed a little more Tuesday spunk than usual with a live edition of The Conners (1.1), a one-tenth uptick for its other three comedies (0.7/0.6/0.6), and a respectable start at 10/9c for new legal drama For Life (0.7). For Life looked better vs. its lead-in but still started in the same area as fall dramas Emergence (0.8) and Stumptown (0.7).
  • It was a down night vs. two weeks ago for all three CBS dramas (1.0/0.8/0.6). NBC's Ellen's Game of Games (0.9) and New Amsterdam (0.6) also downticked, though This Is Us (1.4) held up at 9/8c.
  • The CW also had bad news, with The Flash (0.3) preliminarily eyeing a new series low. And Fox's 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.6) was even after a repeat of The Resident (0.3).

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • After last week's Super Monday bounce, Fox's drama newbies 9-1-1: Lone Star (1.0) and Prodigal Son (0.7) fell back to normal.
  • But it was an up night for much of the rest of broadcast. The Bachelor (1.8) and The Good Doctor (0.9) were both on the upswing, as was most of the CBS lineup (0.9/0.7/0.7/0.7). At least in the prelims, the CW's All American is eyeing what would be its first 0.3 since the season premiere.
  • NBC's Manifest fell back to 0.6 and an outright third place at 10/9c, following another 1.0/1.1 hourly breakdown from America's Got Talent: The Champions.

  • The Academy Awards posted 23.6 million viewers and a 5.3 adults 18-49 rating in the time zone-adjusted fast nationals (more accurate numbers than what is listed in the table below). That would be a horrifying 31% drop in the demo vs. last year, though last year had been a significant rebound from the previous year. Pending finals, it could be the first year that Oscar lost in the demo to the Grammy Awards (5.4) since the Whitney Houston tribute-fueled Grammys in 2012.

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Three days after the Super Bowl, The Masked Singer (2.0) returned diminished; it was down a third from the year-ago winter premiere, and 20% off from the fall premiere. But Fox got a major consolation prize in the 9/8c hour with an outstanding start for unscripted lead-out LEGO Masters (1.6), more than doubling the premiere of fall TMS lead-out Almost Family which had the same 2.0 lead-in.
  • Fox had a lot of competition, not just from NBC's Chicago trio (1.1/1.1/1.1) but also from a special Wednesday edition of The Bachelor (1.4/1.3). Bachelor, however, was no help to the usual 10/9c occupant Stumptown (0.4).
  • CBS had a Survivor retrospective special (0.6) a week before the 40th season premiere, leading into a double-dose of Criminal Minds (0.6/0.5). The CW (0.2/0.1) was even.

  • The big four simulcast the State of the Union starting at 9:00 ET. The only entertainment originals in the 8:00 hour were unscripted offerings Ellen's Game of Games (1.0) and an out-of-slot edition of 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.8), and they were rewarded as the NBC (0.9/0.8) and Fox (0.9) SOTU coverage easily outrated ABC (0.5/0.6) and CBS (0.5/0.5) in the prelims.
  • The CW had the only scripted counterprogramming as The Flash (0.4) returned for its first new episode of 2020, leading into Legends of Tomorrow (0.2).

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Fox got an impressive Super Monday bounce as 9-1-1: Lone Star (1.3), at least for one night, looked every bit as strong as the 9-1-1 mothership, while Prodigal Son was back up to 0.8 for the first time in six episodes.
  • ABC still dominated the night thanks to three hours of The Bachelor (1.6/1.6/1.4), while NBC's Manifest (0.7) preliminarily had a crucial rebound following a steady-ish America's Got Talent: The Champions (1.0/1.1).
  • CBS' The Neighborhood (0.8) was down a notch after a week off, and all the other eye originals (0.7/0.6/0.6) matched two weeks ago. The CW (0.2/0.2) was also even.

FINALS UPDATE: Super Bowl (29.9, +3.2) adjusted up while Ellen's Game of Games (R) (0.2), Super Bowl Postgame (18.2, -2.8) and The Masked Singer (8.1, -1.8) adjusted down.

  • Time zone-adjusted fast nationals (much more accurate than what is in the table below) have the Super Bowl at 99.9 million viewers, up by 1% from last year, while lead-out The Masked Singer (23.7 million viewers and an 8.1 demo rating) was only a modest improvement on last year's The World's Best (22.2 million and a 7.0) and trailed This Is Us from two years ago (27.0 million and 9.3).
    • In terms of the game's 18-49 score, the non-adjusted hourly 18-49 ratings (27.7/27.0/25.5) are suggesting a roughly 4% year-to-year decline vs. last year's preliminaries (28.5/28.2/27.1), trending a bit worse as the game went on. Last year's game adjusted up to a 31.1 final.
    • It is possible the time zone-adjusted numbers could shift enough in finals to put the game over 100 million. (Last year's game had 98.2 million in the fast nats and ended up with 98.5 million in the finals.)

FINALS UPDATE: The Good Place Special (0.5) adjusted down.

  • The 90-minute series finale of The Good Place (0.7/0.7/0.6), which included live post-show interviews, got the show back into 0.7 territory for the first time since the season premiere and matched its lead-in from Superstore (0.7).
  • ABC came back to earth somewhat from last week's crossover premiere night, but still dominated the first two hours with Station 19 (1.0) and Grey's Anatomy (1.1). A Million Little Things (0.6) was down a notch at 10/9c.
  • Fox's Last Man Standing (0.7) dropped a tenth, but the newbie lead-outs Outmatched (0.6) and Deputy (0.6) held on pretty well. The CBS comedies (1.0/0.6/0.7/0.6) were even vs. two weeks ago while Evil (0.5) ticked up in its season finale. And the CW was preliminarily on the high end with Supernatural (0.3) and Legacies (0.3).

  • The CW's Arrow ended its eight-season run with a 0.3 at 9/8c, leading out of a retrospective special at 8/7c (0.2).
  • A mostly flat night for the big four saw The Conners (0.9) go fractional in the rounded numbers for the first time, while the other ABC comedies (0.6/0.5/0.5) and the finale of Emergence (0.3) matched last week. NBC's This Is Us (1.3) ticked down for the second straight week, while CBS' NCIS (1.1) was the only riser.

  • All three shows' lead-out dramas were down a tenth: The Good Doctor (0.8), Manifest (0.6) and Prodigal Son (0.6). For Manifest, it marked three tenths lost since the season premiere three weeks ago.
  • CBS' only original was a special Undercover Boss (0.6) at 9/8c while the CW (0.2/0.2) was even.

  • The CW's Batwoman (0.2) and Supergirl (0.2) stayed original, but the only other entertainment original was a two-hour American Ninja Warrior special (0.4/0.3) on NBC. ABC's repeat night (1.0/0.8/0.5) got a boost from Pro Bowl coverage in the afternoon and ended with a special on the death of Kobe Bryant in the 10/9c hour (0.5).

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • The return of the regular ABC comedy lineup saw The Conners (1.0) inch down from its fall finale, while Bless This Mess (0.6) was even. At 9/8c, Mixed-ish (0.5) tied its low from the last time it didn't have a Jeopardy! lead-in, while Black-ish (0.5) and Emergence (0.3) matched last week.
  • The CW's Arrow (0.3) moved to 8/7c before wrapping up with a two-hour event next week, while Legends of Tomorrow (0.2) began its season at 9/8c (though technically the last hour of Crisis On Infinite Earths counted as a Legends episode).
  • After holding in week two, FBI: Most Wanted (0.7) dipped in week three, behind its rising FBI (0.9) lead-in. NBC's This Is Us (1.4) and New Amsterdam (0.7) each dropped a tenth from last week's winter premieres.

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • It was a rough return for the regular ABC lineup as The Goldbergs (0.7) and 10/9c drama Stumptown (0.4) each fell to new series lows. The 9/8c comedies Modern Family (0.9) and Single Parents (0.6) gave back all of their Jeopardy! bounces from a week ago.
  • NBC's Chicago trio (1.2/1.2/1.1) dominated, with all three shows up a tenth from last week, while CBS' Undercover Boss (0.7) and Criminal Minds (0.7) matched last week's premieres and S.W.A.T. (0.6) returned even at 10/9c.
  • Fox's Flirty Dancing (0.4) and Almost Family (0.3) had their last regularly-scheduled episodes before finishing their runs on Saturday, while the CW's Nancy Drew could only muster up a 0.1 for its return, leading out of The CW Dog Honors (0.1) rather than its usual Riverdale.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 1/14/20

FINALS UPDATE: This Is Us (1.5) adjusted up.

  • The last night of Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time (1.9) dominated but lost some steam from its low-2's level last week, and it also provided way less assistance to lead-out comedies Mixed-ish (0.7) and Black-ish (0.5). At 10/9c, Emergence cratered all the way to its first ever 0.3.
  • NBC featured the returns of dramas This Is Us (1.4, down a notch from its fall finale) and New Amsterdam (even at 0.8). At 8/7c, Ellen's Game of Games (1.0) matched last week's 8/7c hour.
  • The CW had its first drama programming of 2020, the two-hour wrap-up to Crisis on Infinite Earths (0.5/0.5). This was a dip from the 0.65/0.60/0.65 for the first three hours in early December.
  • On the other two networks, the only movement was downticks from 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.6) and FBI (0.8). That meant FBI's spin-off FBI: Most Wanted (0.8) had a promising week two hold at 10/9c.

  • CBS (0.6/0.5/0.4/0.4) went back into repeat mode while Fox (0.4/0.3) and the CW (0.2/0.1) stayed there.

FINALS UPDATE: Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time (2.4) adjusted up.

  • Night two of Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time (2.3) held up swimmingly, dropping just a tenth from its Tuesday premiere. And it had an even more profound impact on the Wednesday comedy hour, vaulting Modern Family (1.5) and Single Parents (0.9) to new season highs and their best raw ratings since 2018. But Stumptown (0.5) couldn't pick up any steam at 10/9c.
  • CBS brought in a couple veterans to help bridge the Survivor seasons on Wednesday, with the season premieres of Undercover Boss (0.7) and Criminal Minds (0.7/0.7). This was the first sighting of the Boss since a celebrity edition in summer 2018, and the first non-celebrity season since spring 2017. Minds was back after almost a full year off, but managed to tie its 0.7 premiere in fall 2018.
  • NBC's Chicago Med (1.1), Chicago Fire (1.1) and Chicago PD (1.0) all returned down a notch from their fall finales. And the Fox duo of Flirty Dancing (0.3) and Almost Family (0.3) somehow got even more invisible.

FINALS UPDATE: Batwoman (R) (0.2) adjusted up.

  • ABC's Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time (2.4) event was a breakout success, posting nearly the same Plus as last winter's The Masked Singer premiere. It was one of the biggest things to air on ABC all season, topped only by The Little Mermaid Live! and the last hour of New Year's Rockin' Eve. It also had enough juice to vault Mixed-ish (1.1) to a new series high by a wide margin, and even helped out Black-ish (0.8) and Emergence (0.5) later in the night.
  • NBC featured the two-hour return of Ellen's Game of Games (1.0/1.1), which took about the same 30%ish year-to-year drop as America's Got Talent: The Champions did on Monday. It led into a very early preview for Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.6), the musical drama which will next air on Sundays over a month from now.
  • CBS premiered its latest procedural spinoff FBI: Most Wanted (0.8), which dropped a tenth from the FBI mothership (0.9) and basically looked like a high-end episode of previous occupant NCIS: New Orleans. The CBS night began with a steady NCIS (1.0).
  • Even Fox had a season premiere as the Gordon Ramsay offering 24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.7) returned for season three and matched its The Resident lead-in (0.7). The year-to-years look bad since 24 Hours aired alongside The Masked Singer last year, but it's a fine result considering the show hit a 0.8 without Masked help at the end of last season.

FINALS UPDATE: The Bachelor (1.9) adjusted up.

  • Last winter's big duel between The Bachelor (2.1/1.9/1.6) and America's Got Talent: The Champions (1.3/1.3) began its second round, and the momentum remained squarely with the ABC franchise. AGT won last year's premiere night 1.8 to 1.5, but this time it was a resounding victory for The Bachelor, with the franchise up several tenths year-to-year while Champions was down 30%ish.
  • At 10/9c, NBC brought back sophomore drama Manifest (0.9). While it of course couldn't match last season's breakout 2.2 premiere, it was close to its deliveries from late last season, offering some hope it could remain one of the strongest 10/9c dramas on TV.
  • CBS also returned, toward the high end with comedies The Neighborhood (0.9) and Bob Hearts Abishola (0.8). But legal drama All Rise (0.5) had a major dud showing at 9/8c, while Bull pulled itself back up to 0.6 at 10/9c.

  • Despite an NFL playoff lead-in (9.2 demo in the 7:00 half-hour), NBC's Golden Globe Awards (3.8 from 8:00 to 11:00) were down about 15% from last year's 4.5 prelim (which later adjusted up to 5.2).
  • The rest of the big four plowed ahead with at least a few originals. ABC looked pretty typical with America's Funniest Home Videos (0.7), Kids Say the Darndest Things (0.5) and Shark Tank (0.6). Fox hit a season low with The Simpsons (0.6) but grew at 8:30 with a special Family Guy (0.7). And CBS plummeted to new season lows for dramas God Friended Me (0.4) and NCIS: Los Angeles (0.5).

Spotted Ratings, Thursday 1/2/20

FINALS UPDATE: Last Man Standing (1.0) and Deputy (0.8) adjusted up.

  • Night two of the Fox winter rollout saw the one-hour return of comedy Last Man Standing (0.9) and new drama Deputy (0.7) at 9/8c. LMS went 50% below the incredible start of its first Fox season, but had about the same raw numbers it was bringing to Friday night late last season. Deputy skewed rather old, bringing about 600,000 more viewers but three tenths less in the demo compared with the Prodigal Son premiere in the fall.
  • Last Man was in a tight race to top the hour and the night, as ABC's behind-the-scenes Jeopardy! special (0.9) tied it at 8/7c. The network's multi-night Jeopardy! champions event begins on Tuesday.

Revisiting the Top TV Ratings Moments of the 2010s

Because one of these lists each year is stressful enough, I decided for my look back on the entire decade to do a slightly less organized and researched list, separating all the main contenders into three general tiers. I feel pretty good about these tiers but didn't want to waste too many brain cells on the order within those tiers, so everything within each tier is "in no particular order." If you want to use this as a guide for your own formal list, feel free! ;-)

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

  • Fox was first into the entertainment programming game in the new year, but got no reward for its efforts as reality newbie Flirty Dancing (0.4) was DOA at 8/7c, while Almost Family (0.3) returned to match its lows from Thanksgiving week.
