It's time for a journey through the CW Thursday schedule in 2021-22...
FINALS UPDATE: Thursday Night Football (3.7, +1.6) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. The Blacklist returned to NBC, leading into the 500th episode of Law and Order: SVU.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.6),
B Positive (0.5) and
Thursday Night Football (4.1, +1.9) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. CBS filled out its comedy night with B Positive returning at 9:30, following week two of Ghosts. Legacies returned to the CW.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.6),
Ghosts (0.6) and
Thursday Night Football (4.2, +2.1) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. CBS had its Thursday premiere night with returnees Young Sheldon, United States of Al and Bull, sandwiching the one-hour premiere of new comedy Ghosts at 9/8c. Fox began its final season airing Thursday Night Football.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.8) and
Grey's Anatomy (0.8) adjusted up while
Law and Order: SVU (0.7) and
The Outpost (0.0) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC had its Thursday premiere night with the returns of Station 19 (0.76), Grey's Anatomy (0.77) and Big Sky (0.37), and major year-to-year declines were the norm across the board. Station was the only one of the three to rise from its finale, and it was easily the weakest premiere in Grey's Anatomy history. And the sophomore Big Sky was unable to even get back to its much-reduced late season one levels in what should've been a better timeslot.
- It was another three-hour Law & Order night on NBC, this time with Law and Order: Organized Crime (0.67) getting the two-hour treatment. That proved beneficial, as it rose by nearly a tenth vs. last week's premiere, while Law and Order: SVU (0.73) was down a bit.
FINALS UPDATE: Bull (R)
(0.2) and
The Masked Singer (1.0) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- NBC's Law and Order: SVU (0.79) impressed in its two-hour season premiere, rising nearly a tenth from the June finale and obliterating all of its results from last fall. At 10/9c, sophomore Law and Order: Organized Crime (0.60) was on the low end of its season one raw numbers.
- Fox's The Masked Singer (0.97) and Alter Ego (0.44) finished their two-night premiere weeks. The former was off by 13% from the Wednesday premiere, but Alter Ego dropped almost a third and saw its retention fall well below 50%.
FINALS UPDATE: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.4) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (0.9) and
Sunday Night Football (7.6, +1.4) adjusted up while
Football Night in America p3 (2.7, -1.9) and
The Outpost (0.0) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. NBC had the NFL's regular season opener, and CBS aired the CBS Fall Preview half-hour special.
FINALS UPDATE: CMA Jam (0.5) and
CFB on Fox (1.7, +0.3) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Holey Moley (R)
(0.4),
Big Brother (1.0) and
Making It (0.3) adjusted up while
Law and Order: SVU (R)
(0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: B Positive (R)
(0.3),
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.4),
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.3) and
Making It (0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Christmas in Rockefeller Center (1.2) and
Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes (0.9) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS' SEAL Team returned with a two-hour premiere (0.5/0.5) following The Amazing Race (0.7). While this was down about a third from last sesaon's premiere and tied last season's low, it did look a little better than any of the November episodes of S.W.A.T.
- Fox rolled to victory with two hours of The Masked Singer (1.5/1.6), while NBC was a respectable second with holiday staple Christmas in Rockefeller Center (1.2/1.1) and a Radio City Rockettes special (0.8). Rockefeller was on par with or above the year-ago telecast (1.1), perhaps getting a little indirect help from NBC's late Wednesday afternoon NFL game.
- On ABC, the 8/7c comedies The Goldbergs (0.7) and American Housewife (0.6) were steady, the 9/8c hour of The Conners (0.6) and Black-ish (0.4) inched down, and For Life (0.3) fell apart after last week's uptick.
FINALS UPDATE: The Amazing Race (0.7),
Chicago Med (1.2),
Chicago PD (1.0) and
The Masked Singer (1.6) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- NBC's Chicago Wednesday returned in mostly healthy fashion, though with some inconsistent trends. At 8/7c, Chicago Med (1.1) was actually up from last year's 1.0 premiere, while Chicago Fire (1.0) was down a tenth from last year's 1.1 and Chicago PD (0.9) was down two tenths.
- They completely flattened CBS' two-hour return of S.W.A.T. (0.4/0.4), which is eyeing a new series low on premiere night. The Amazing Race (0.6) was also on the low end against big competition.
- ABC had the CMA Awards (1.1/1.1/0.9), down at least 40% from last year's 2.0, which lost to Fox's The Masked Singer (1.5) and I Can See Your Voice (0.9) but did seem to take a bite out of the music-themed lineup.
