Question Two, Thursday 9/27/12: Is This Really the Last Resort?

ABC used Revenge to successfully plug one of its two historically "cursed" timeslots last season. (They've since moved it, but that's a story for another day.) This year, they'll try to solve the other one with thriller Last Resort, the network's fifth new drama in just 3+ seasons here since moving Ugly Betty out of the hour. None of the others have made a season two. Will ABC have to shuffle in yet another new effort at midseason, or is this truly the timeslot's Last Resort? That's Question Two for Thursday, September 27, 2012.

Thursday 8/7c Drama Premieres Last Season's ABC Drama Premieres
4.0 (Flashforward, 9/24/09)
1.8 (The Deep End, 1/21/10)
1.6 (My Generation, 9/23/10)
2.1 (Charlie's Angels, 9/22/11)
2.1 (Missing, 3/15/12)
4.0 (Once Upon a Time), 3.3 (Revenge),
3.1 (Pan Am), 2.4 (The River), 2.2 (GCB),
2.1 (Charlie's Angels), 2.1 (Missing),
2.0 (Scandal)

I killed this show in the fall preview because the competition is brutal and I thought the on-air promos were just terrible. To the promo monkeys' credit, they have gone through several permutations of spots since then. I'd say the ads have gotten a little better on the whole, but opening with some kind of substantial number is still a really uphill battle. Flashforward had a lot of "spiritual successor to Lost" mojo going for it, including shared cast members and a title that was also part of the Lost terminology. The hook here is not as obvious. I'm gonna give it an over/under just barely ahead of last year's 8/7c occupants.

Over/Under: 2.2.

No entries accepted after 6:00am ET the morning after the date in the headline.

Slightly over, 2.4.

Wasn't drawn in by the promos but have heard great things. Nothing massive but I don't see it doing as badly as CA last year. Over.

Over. There may be enough hype here to get it a decent launch.

Under.
This is good pilot. Not great, especially when focus goes off main action-packed story (not surprising, family matters are not exactly Shawn Ryan's kind of game), but for low broadcast standards is a top notch pilot.
Alas, unlucky timeslot with lot of competition, not a lot of buzz = I expect low live numbers, but - thanks to good word of mouth - nice Live+7 (for pilot, as there is big question mark about next episodes, I don't see how can they sustain level of suspense).
Thus, under, around 2.0.

I want it to be over, but I just do not know. I guess it has had enough promotion.

Over- 2.3

I'm torn. It's the only drama in the hour, but Thursday Night Football (which has gotten more attention with the regular referees back) could blunt the audience potential. I don't see Grey's audience pre-tuning in to help Last Resort, but I really want this show to work for ABC.

Under.

It's my favorite pilot but I can't see it working as much as I wish it would. Still... Over, a 2.3

I'll say under at 2.0. The drought continues.

Over. But only because it seems expensive and thats quite a low bar to hit

Over. Perhaps wishful thinking, but it is strong counter-programming and it has been heavily promoted.

Over. Perhaps I'm being over-optimistic but it's strong counter-programming and it's been aggressively promoted by ABC. It also seems to have some buzz, which is always helpful.
(Sorry if I've posted about the same post twice)

Under, 2.1

over. while I doubt that it is going to be massive, it should have enough buzz to get it up around at mid-2 level

Is it void?
