Spotted Ratings, Friday 10/10/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: Adjustments to the CBS procedurals put Hawaii Five-0 (1.2) back at the season premiere number and Blue Bloods (1.3) at a new season high. Shark Tank (2.0) also got a tenth for its first 2 of the season.
  • ABC put the last piece of its fall schedule into place and got a nice start out of 8:30 sitcom Cristela (1.3). The show was never going to bring the kind of heat to the night that Reba McEntire did with Malibu Country a couple years ago, but there appears to be real potential for improvement on last year's mismatched Last Man lead-out The Neighbors (which started at 1.2 in pre-premiere week last year). Cristela was also a tenth ahead of its slightly underwhelming Last Man Standing lead-in (1.2).
  • Elsewhere, it was another Friday night of Shark Tank (1.9) and then a huge drop to everything else. The Amazing Race (1.1) dropped back to its premiere number while Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.6) had a good rebound after starting slowly last week.

- On ABC, LMS is a bit lower than I thought it would be this year, but
Cristella did well enough building on it. Let's see where it settles now
when the promotion dies down. Shark Tank did amazing as usual but
what's up with 20/20? It's really underperforming these past two weeks
and bringing down the otherwise very strong ABC Fridays
- CBS
continues to be underhwelming. The dramas are stable but low so meh and
The Amazing Race is hitting new lows, really horrible performance for
that show.
- Whose Line did very well recovering from last week paltry 0.4 and Top Model also continues to hold.
- NBC is still in hiding so nothing to say there, and I also don't really have comments on FOX anymore, meh...

Yawn.

Interesting, no network tried to quietly sneak some cancellation yesterday, on a quiet Friday. But Fox has thin bench (extremely thin compared to number of flops), NBC has some placeholders until planned February schedule reshuffle, and some shows' ratings surprisingly haven't fall off the cliff yet (Laura, Forever).
I still think ABC Tuesday comedy block goes first, followed by Mulaney, after it flops on NFL-fueled Sunday too.

The first four weeks of 20/20 last year were 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 with an isolated spike to a 1.6 for episode three. It really didn't hits stride until January-March. If you count the January-March episodes with an original lead in, every episode was between 1.7-1.9 with roughly a 1.76 average. Basically, if it keeps low 1's in January, we may need to worry, but this roughly how it did last year.

Unforgettable's cancellation was immediately forgettable.

Two more weeks until NBC premieres Grimm and Constantine... Can't wait. :)
