Question Two, Wednesday 10/10/12: Which Way is the Arrow Pointing?

As I said pre-season, Arrow is about as high-stakes as a series premiere can get for a network. If the CW can't get this kind of show to open with a substantial number, when are they ever going to get anything to open with a substantial number? If this bombs tonight, we may as well start the countdown clock on the demise of the network as a whole. I realize many pundits have started said countdown clock long ago, but I remain naive enough to want to see how this show does first. Which way is the network's arrow pointing?  That's Question Two for Wednesday, October 10, 2012.

Recent CW Drama Series Premieres This Season's CW Premieres
1.2 (Hellcats, 9/8/10)
1.4 (Nikita, 9/9/10)
1.2 (Ringer, 9/13/11)
1.3 (The Secret Circle, 9/15/11)
0.8 (Hart of Dixie, 9/26/11)
0.7 (Hart of Dixie, 10/2/12)
0.8 (Supernatural, 10/3/12)
0.4 (90210, 10/8/12)
0.4 (Gossip Girl, 10/8/12)

The CW's ratings have been so battered down over the last 12 months that even getting back to the low 1's range in which most of their recent drama premieres have fallen would feel like a pretty big win, especially since Arrow faces full broadcast competition (unlike most of the above). Yet I still think this has as good a shot as anything since The Vampire Diaries to be a pretty big win. It's a recognizable comic book name. Reviews are reasonably good. It's been promoted heavily; I even saw multiple spots during Syfy's Alphas on Monday night. Taking the under is probably the wise route with the way things are going on the mini-net, but I'm hoping at least a few people have the same kind of... hope? stupidity? that I do. Good luck, CDub.

Over/Under: 1.05.

Over. Perhaps I'm overoptimistic, but this show seems to have broad cross-over appeal that most CW shows don't have.

Narrowly Over. I've seen some promotion for this and a few comic-book fans might be interested enough to get viewers beyond the usual CW demographic.
Arrow - 1.1

I'm probably going to regret this, but over. I was thinking a 1.1.

Under.
Only 2 weeks ago I would laugh at this line, Arrow looked like sure thing to do well for low CW standards, looked like 1.50+ premiere. But the way things are going at The CW right now, I'm taking under here (though I'll keep fingers crossed it goes over, cause all promos I saw were good and I expect this to be a good show).
But it seems young people (I mean 34- age here) don't care about CW, when channel surfing not considering it anymore. For 35+ it was always so - and that's OK, as it's mutual, neither network cares (now or cared before) about them.

Under, sadly. I see a .9, which will only yield more questions than answers.

Under. Not a complete flop, but 1.05 as of now is too much to hope for. 1 would be a miracle, .8 or .9 a lot more likely.

Over. The genre nights (Smallville/Supernatural or TVD/lead-out drama) have historically been The CW or WB's strongest night. And for what it's worth, Arrow is the only drama in the hour. The CW should be thrilled with 1.2 or higher.

Narrowly under at a 1.0 (but still the #1 CW show of the week)

Over. Although I can imagine quite big drops down the line

I keep going back and forth on this one. Pre-season I'd have easily gone for over but seeing the numbers for the other CW shows so far..I'll be optimistic and say it gets enough interest to begin with to go over.

Like others, I would have gone with higher pre-season. Now, it's under

Under, but I'm betting it's close.

Over.

thats a really really tough one, but I think I'm going to go with under
