First Two Weeks, The Mob Doctor

WEEK ONE
The Mob Doctor was the first drama series premiere of the 2012-13 season, managing a paltry 1.5 demo on pre-premiere Monday against a strong week two of The Voice and nothing special on the other networks. That meant it dropped noticeably from its Bones lead-in (2.3).

WEEK TWO
Week two brought the full onslaught of competition, with ABC returning Dancing with the Stars and CBS back into originals with its comedy block. Though Bones held up quite well (with another 2.3), The Mob Doctor was down 13% to an even more disheartening 1.3.

PROGNOSIS
As I said on the premiere Monday post, I thought Fox might really start to consider pulling it after two weeks if it went to a 1.2 or lower. The 1.3 was good enough to not just survive to week three but to get continued promotions during the afternoon NFL games. That said, there is a pretty clear jumping-off point looming in the not-too-distant future for The Mob Doctor. Starting on October 15, Fox is pre-empted in this hour for three straight Mondays for baseball/debates. I'd be pretty surprised if TMD is able to come out on the other side of that. I believe Fox's decision to delay the Kitchen Nightmares premiere means that will be the fill-in starting on November 5. The Mob Doctor always felt like time-period filler until they get to the midseason drama they really have faith in, The Following. And the ratings haven't changed that. TMD won't be getting an extension. Cancel.

"First Two Weeks" is my look at... the first two weeks of a new scripted broadcast show's ratings. I also line up all of the premiere and week two drop numbers together.

I think that The Mob
Doctor is very close to being axed. However, some friends that work with me
at DISH are convinced that tonight’s episode could save the show. They just need
to develop the characters thoroughly, giving the audience a deeper character to
understand. I’m willing to watch the show until it’s done, because my Hopper
auto-records the big 4 PrimeTime channels. It’s a great feature for a guy like
me, who often forgets to set timers for every show this time of year.

I don't think there's anything there to save. From what I've seen, there's no competence to the writing and the characters don't have any shades to explore.
