Spotted Ratings, Thursday 10/6/11: How to Be Cancelled?

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Last night, I tweeted that I thought the number that would be a gray area between immediate yanking and one more week for How to Be a Gentleman was 2.5 and for Charlie's Angels was 1.2. So it'll be an interesting day as, naturally, How to Be a Gentleman posted a 2.5 and Charlie's Angels a 1.2. The "good" news for Gentleman was that its Big Bang lead-in also declined significantly.
  • Also weighing in both of these decisions is whether they're negatively affecting the rest of the night. So it may not be good news for Gent that its new 9/8c lead-out Person of Interest lost another tenth. And it's probably really bad news for the Angels that Grey's Anatomy crashed big-time. UPDATE: CBS has pretty-much-yanked How to Be a Gentleman by moving it to Saturday starting next week. Rules of Engagement premieres in the half-hour on October 20.
  • Things were fairly ugly elsewhere too with all of NBC's comedies dropping from last week. That's perhaps most troubling for The Office, which tied its lowest number since season 1. The weak Prime Suspect at least held in week three.
  • The only thing really holding strong seems to be The X Factor, which finished up a tick from last week in finals.

Note: With an extraordinary occurrence on cable (the 3.2 demo for the Yankees/Tigers Game 5), I added its demo rating to the same mechanism I typically use for Monday Night Football competition adjustments. That means all shows got half the rating (1.6) added to their competition counts, so the TRUEs are a touch higher than they'd usually be for those ratings.
