Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 6/14/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.6) adjusted up to tie the season premiere, while Maya and Marty (1.3) adjusted down. Coupled (0.4) and The Flash (R) (0.3) also adjusted down, but ABC's results all held!
  • It was a an impressive start for ABC's new original Tuesday lineup, highlighted by a great-for-summer 1.5 average for each of the first two episodes of sitcom Uncle Buck in the 9/8c hour. It was sandwiched by the new game show To Tell the Truth which had a 1.0 at 8/7c and was boosted by Buck to a 1.2 at 10/9c. Considering most of these shows' year-to-year comparisons will be the 0.7-ish rated Extreme Weight Loss, there is potential for huge improvement out of this night. And TTtT could end up far ahead of pretty much anything the network had in the 10/9c hour even during the regular season.
  • On NBC, America's Got Talent (2.5) was on the upswing with no more The Bachelorette competition. At least preliminarily, it didn't get back to the 2.6 premiere rating, but it still beat week three of last season (2.3) which was up against the NBA Finals. Maya and Marty (1.4) was also on the rebound at 10/9c.
  • Fox's Hotel Hell (0.9) also had a nice bounce-back, going up to an outright season high at 8/7c, while Coupled inched back up to 0.5.
  • And the penultimate episode of Person of Interest clung to 1.0 again at 10/9c, leading out of more NCIS franchise repeats (0.7/0.8).
  • On the CW, Containment (0.3) seems headed for a new low off of last week's curious repeat. It led out of a repeat of The Flash (0.4).

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 6/7/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.3) adjusted up while ABC's 20/20 special (1.3) adjusted down. The CW repeats crashed in the finals to 0.2/0.2 due to Chicago pre-emptions.
  • It seemed like America's Got Talent was a big beneficiary of the new NBA Finals scheduling, since the Finals no longer have any games on Tuesdays. But it's possible that made the night even tougher for a reality show, since it prompted ABC to bring The Bachelorette (2.0) over to the night temporarily. While Bachelorette impressively matched its Monday rating, Talent (2.2) took a bigger week two drop than last year. It was still just a couple tenths behind the 2015 week two.
  • The 10/9c hour also got tougher, as ABC did far better than its usual Mistresses numbers with a 20/20 Bobby Brown special (1.4). NBC's Talent lead-out Maya and Marty (1.2) fell noticeably in week two and lost the head-to-head with ABC.
  • Person of Interest held at 1.0 out of NCIS franchise repeats (0.8/0.7). On Fox, Hotel Hell (0.7) was down a tenth against the reality onslaught, but Coupled held its 0.5.
  • The CW had a repeat of The Flash (0.4) and Containment (0.4). (Apparently Containment was also a repeat? The viewers didn't seem to realize.)

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/31/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.6) adjusted up to match last year's premiere. 500 Questions (0.8), Fresh Off the Boat (0.5), NCIS: NO (0.9) and The Flash (0.3) adjusted down.
  • NBC burst back onto the summer scene with the healthy two-hour premiere of America's Got Talent (2.3/2.8), as Simon Cowell's debut on the show roughly matched last year's 2.6 premiere.
    • At 10/9c was the network's latest stab at the variety format with Maya and Marty (1.5). This was a relatively uninspiring start, already three tenths behind where I Can Do That (1.8) launched on the same night last year. (Though it does look better when stacked up with The Night Shift's 1.6 premiere two years ago.)
  • ABC's 500 Questions was back with another two hours (0.8/0.9), about in line with its two-hour premiere ratings on Thursday. Fresh Off the Boat repeated at 0.7 for two episodes in the 10/9c hour.
  • On Fox, Hotel Hell (0.8) and Coupled (0.5) each matched last week.
  • The CW's Containment (0.4) held up fairly well in its first episode without an original The Flash lead-in, losing just a tenth. (And it had some weak 0.5's in its later post-Flash eps anyway.) Its Flash repeat lead-in also had a 0.4.
  • And CBS' 100th episode of Person of Interest (1.0) was back up into the ones for the first time in a couple weeks, leading out of repeats of NCIS (0.9) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.0).

Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/30/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Stanley Cup Finals adjusted up to 1.4, still down 26% from last year's Game 1. Meanwhile, the NBA game on TNT got a simply staggering 6.40 demo rating. We're not even in the NBA Finals yet, but this was close to last year's NBA Finals opener (6.9) and actually beat most of the games from the 2014 Finals.
  • Memorial Day is always rough for The Bachelorette (1.5/1.6), and this year was no exception as it went way below last week's 2.0 premiere. But this was still about on par with its year-ago Memorial Day rating, when it had 500 Questions as a lead-in. The news was worse at 10/9c as third-year summer drama Mistresses (0.7) made its return to Monday and held less than half of its lead-in. It did beat last year's series low, but was two tenths below last year's premiere.
  • Fox brought back the decaying So You Think You Can Dance (1.0), which once again took a step down from last year's 1.3 premiere. Worth noting that the network held it till the week after Memorial Day last year, so it's possible that it could hold up better than usual from here. With its first look at the new lead-in, Houdini and Doyle (0.5) went down to a new low.
  • NBC had Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals (1.2/1.1/1.2), which (like everything else on broadcast) got completely overrun by the massive NBA game on TNT. This NHL rating is going to be massively below the 1.9 that opened the Finals last year.
  • CBS snuck in its final Monday original of Person of Interest (0.8), which dipped to a new low leading out of Scorpion repeats (0.6/0.7).
  • A week after the return of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, the CW sat it out on Memorial Day, instead opting to show timely theatrical Memorial Day (0.3/0.2).

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/24/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Voice (2.2), The Flash (1.3) and The Real O'Neals (1.1) adjusted up.
  • It was a rough Tuesday finale night for the Monday reality staples, as Dancing with the Stars (1.5/1.6) and The Voice (2.1) were both down roughly 30% from last year. These shows have usually struggled on this second night since they cannibalize each other, but in this case they were actually at or near performance season low levels. DWTS can at least pin some of the blame on a much reduced lead-in from comedies Fresh Off the Boat (1.2) and The Real O'Neals (1.0), compared with a bonus The Bachelorette (1.9) hour last year.
    • FOTB and O'Neals were each up a tick from last week. The Voice's lead-in was a one-hour Voice recap (1.4).
  • Not even Gordon Ramsay may be able to save this Fox summer, as his Hotel Hell (0.8) made a soft return at 8/7c. It hadn't been seen since summer 2014, when it did almost double these ratings with big MasterChef lead-ins. It led into Coupled (0.5), which managed to match last week's awful premiere.
  • CBS had the Big Brother-themed edition of The Price is Right (1.1) at 8/7c, leading into two more hours of Person of Interest (0.9/0.9).
  • It was a slightly soft finale night for The Flash (1.2), but it looks like a strong bet to adjust up with both a 1.3 in the 8:30 half-hour, plus over a minute overrun into the 9:00 hour. Meanwhile, Containment (0.5) hopes to hold onto a rounded 0.5 for its entire regular season run.

Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/23/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC opened another season of The Bachelorette (2.0) in encouraging fashion, down just a tenth from last year's premiere even with a reduced lead-in from Dancing with the Stars (1.9). While Stars was down a bit more than league average from last year's performance finale, it was still the show's second-highest rating of the season.
  • It was a discouraging performance finale night for The Voice (2.0), which actually went down from last week. The show had seemed to be improving its y2y trends in the last couple weeks, but this marked a return to the 20%+ declines that have been the norm for most of the season. And Blindspot finished its Monday 10/9c life with a fourth consecutive 1.3.
  • CBS brought daytime institution The Price is Right (1.3) back into primetime for the first time since 2008 (at least by my count), where it will air one-hour specials on the last three days of the regular season. It mostly had mid-1's in its 2008 run, but a 1.3 in 2016 is a significantly stronger number; the synergy with Survivor probably brought in some extra audience. However, TPIR proved to be a bad lead-in for The Odd Couple, which tanked to 1.0/0.9 in its one-hour season finale. Person of Interest had another 0.9 at 10/9c.
  • Fox closed out the Gotham season with a downtick to 1.2, and Houdini and Doyle (0.6) was also down a notch.
  • And the CW continued its summer roll-out with the double-episode return of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.4/0.4), matching its 0.4 premiere in April 2015. Reign had another 0.3.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/17/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: NCIS adjusted up to 2.6, a rather massive 8:00 post-DST number, while Chicago Fire (1.7) also inched up.
  • Michael Weatherly's departure from NCIS was clearly the event of Tuesday night, spiking the mothership (2.5) to its second-highest rating of the season and about a half-point ahead of its usual post-DST delivery. It was even a half-point ahead of last season's finale! (Might be a good sign for his upcoming Bull, as well?) There was not much palpable heat beyond the 8/7c hour, though, as NCIS: New Orleans (1.8) was up a tenth at 9/8c while Person of Interest (1.1) was even.
  • NBC's The Voice (1.8) stayed even against the enhanced NCIS. The season finales of Thursday-bound Chicago Med (1.6) at 9/8c and Chicago Fire (1.6) at 10/9c were also even.
  • On ABC, Agents of SHIELD inched up to 1.0 in its two-hour season finale as it prepares to move to the 10/9c hour permanently. Earlier in the night, Fresh Off the Boat (1.1) got back to normal after last week's stinker, while The Real O'Neals stayed at 0.9. The comedies will be back next week alongside the Dancing with the Stars finale.
  • Fox gave its news division a rare look on the broadcast network, but Megyn Kelly's Donald Trump interview (0.8) attracted little interest at 8/7c. (With 4.7 million total viewers, it's likely the oldest-skewing thing the network has aired all season.)  But that was nothing compared to the total dud premiere of summer reality series Coupled (0.5) at 9/8c. Combined with Houdini and Doyle, it's already a rough start for the Fox summer.
  • And the CW's The Flash and Containment were at 1.3/0.5 for the fourth straight week.

Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/16/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Voice (2.1) adjusted up, as did the 8:30 edition of Mike and Molly (1.7) to tie its season high. Houdini and Doyle (0.7) also gained a tenth.
  • After its surprisingly huge penultimate week surge, Mike and Molly ended its six-year run with a downtick on series finale night, averaging a 1.4 at 8:00 (down two tenths from last week) and a 1.6 at 8:30 (down a tenth from last week). Though off of last week's highs, it's still better than what it did in its first couple Monday airings this spring.
    • In the 9:00 hour, it was yet another 1.5 for The Big Bang Theory (R) and yet another 1.3 for The Odd Couple, while Person of Interest inched down to 0.9 at 10/9c.
  • An even longer series run came to an end on ABC, where Castle (1.3) finished its eighth and final season with an outright season high, and pulled into a tie for the 10/9c lead with Blindspot (1.3). Castle was just a tenth behind last season's finale, easily its best trend of the season. The dramas' lead-in reality programs Dancing with the Stars (1.7/1.8) and The Voice (2.0/2.1) were close to even with last week.
  • On Fox, Gotham (1.3) inched up to end its four-week streak at 1.2, while Houdini and Doyle remained mired at 0.6.
  • And the CW's Jane the Virgin finished season two with a swing back up to 0.4 as it awaits its scheduling fate at the upcoming upfront. Reign also inched back up to 0.3.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/10/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: NCIS (2.1) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.7) adjusted up.
  • NBC surged back into the Tuesday lead as The Voice (1.8) continued a decent third-to-last week of the season, while Chicago Med (1.6) was up a tenth and Chicago Fire matched last week's 1.6.
  • On CBS, NCIS (2.0) made it back into the twos, but NCIS: New Orleans (1.6) and Person of Interest (1.1) were down from last Tuesday. All three shows exactly matched the year-ago evening.
  • ABC's Fresh Off the Boat (0.9) had a rotten night, losing two tenths for the second straight episode to drop easily into new low territory. The Real O'Neals (0.9) and Agents of SHIELD (0.9) managed to match last week, while a BattleBots preview (0.6) had a Beyond the Tank-esque number at 10/9c.
  • Fox finished out its sitcom Tuesdays for the season with the two-episode finale of New Girl (1.1 at 8:00, 1.0 at 9:00) gaining a tenth in each timeslot. The Grinder (0.6) also inched up on finale night, but Grandfathered (0.6) was back down and could only manage a tie with Grinder.
  • The Flash (1.3) and Containment (0.5) were both even again on the CW.

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/9/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • After a couple fairly innocuous weeks to begin its return to Monday, Mike and Molly had a major surge to 1.6/1.7 in the week before the series finale. Though this basically matches the raw numbers of its winter Wednesday run, it is a more impressive showing in a post-DST world.
    • Later in the night, The Big Bang Theory (R) (1.5) and The Odd Couple (1.3) both matched last Monday. And Person of Interest began its brief Monday 10/9c run with a new series low 1.0, but it was still not too far a cry from its 1.2 Tuesday premiere last week.
  • There was much steadiness elsewhere. In the case of NBC's The Voice (2.1), that meant the show's best point on a year-to-year basis all season. (Its third-to-last Monday last year got just a 2.3.) Blindspot stayed at 1.3 after a downward finals adjustment.
  • On Fox, it got even worse for Houdini and Doyle, which ticked down to 0.6 in week two. Gotham posted its fourth consecutive 1.2.
  • ABC's Dancing with the Stars (1.7) inched down, while Castle (1.1) inched up.
  • And after a downward adjustment in finals, Reign was down to 0.2, a number it hit just once in its Friday run earlier in the season. Jane the Virgin couldn't bounce back from last week and had another 0.3.

Wednesday, May 4, 2016

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/3/16

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Flash (1.3) adjusted up to match last week, while Beyond the Tank (0.6) pulled off an uptick in its final Tuesday episode. The Real O'Neals (0.9) adjusted down to its first fractional number with an original lead-in.
  • CBS' Person of Interest (1.2) returned to run through its 13-episode final season, mostly on Tuesdays but also with second episodes on Mondays for the rest of May. It was a tenth above the usual late-season Limitless rating in the hour, but significantly behind the normal PoI ratings from last season (though up a notch from the big dip it took on season finale night). It got some help from the NCIS twins, as New Orleans (1.8) was on the upswing at 9/8c while NCIS at least matched the 1.9 from its last original.
  • The return of CBS originals was bad news for NBC, where The Voice (1.6) and Chicago Med (1.5) each took hefty declines and fell well behind CBS. Chicago Fire (1.6) declined much less heftily against PoI at 10/9c.
  • On Fox, bubble comedies Grandfathered (0.7) and The Grinder (0.5) were original on the same night for the first time in over two months. There has been buzz that studio ownership and acclaim may benefit Grinder, but Grandfathered tried to make its (relative) ratings case by inching up from last week and outrating Grinder by two tenths. Both shows led out of original episodes of New Girl (1.0 at 8:00/0.9 at 9:00).
  • On ABC, Fresh Off the Boat (1.1) came back to earth after last week's post-DST high, but The Real O'Neals managed to hang at 1.0 yet again. Agents of SHIELD (0.9) continued its oscillation between 0.9 and 1.0, while a miserable Tuesday run finally ended for Beyond the Tank (0.5). It'll try to improve in potentially friendlier territory starting on Friday.
  • Week three of the CW's Containment didn't have to wait till finals for the 0.5 this time, though it looks like a decent bet to hang onto the 0.5 since it had a 0.6 in the 9:00 half-hour. The Flash preliminarily inched down to 1.2.

The War of 18-49, Person of Interest

Heir to the CSI Throne

Person of Interest came on the CBS scene in one of the highest-expectation timeslots in primetime: the Thursday 9/8c perch occupied by former megahit CSI for over a decade. The premiere numbers were 13.33 million viewers and a 3.1 demo rating on 9/22/11, a barely passable rating considering it had a direct lead-in from The Big Bang Theory (which averaged a 5.1 demo at 8:30). But POI's lead-in was barely half that size when newbie How to Be a Gentleman premiered at 8:30 the next week. Person of Interest started to look much better by comparison, holding onto a 2.7 and 2.6 in the next two weeks. It would hold in that area for the rest of the fall, getting a bit of help as Gentleman gave way to Big Bang repeats and later Rules of Engagement.

Minor Growth on Thursday

The show picked up some steam in the always high-viewed winter months, surging to a new high 3.2 for its January return and getting as high as a 3.4 on 3/8/12. It held in the 3's almost every week until late April. Its final 122 Plus for the season was ahead of the last couple CSI seasons, though not by much. But it had a bad final month of the season and, even with a much improved lead-in from Two and a Half Men, was only able to put together a small sophomore bounce in its return to the hour in season two. It was up a bit year-to-year in the fall and down a bit in the second half of the season. Still, this was good for +15 points in Plus.

Tuesday Declines

Though POI was one of CBS' biggest shows in the 9:00 hour, it got moved to the long-troubled Tuesday 10/9c slot for season three. Though it had never truly broken out on Thursday, this move was probably less about POI and more about the network's need to accommodate a heavy comedy development slate. Though it had a pretty good lead-in from NCIS: Los Angeles on Tuesday, it was never the same again, shedding nearly a third of its demo audience in the move and another 22% the next season. Still, this was enough to make season three CBS' biggest historical-adjusted player on Tuesday at 10:00 in the A18-49+ era. Even the middling season four numbers have only been topped in that slot a handful of times.

Person of Interest got another downgrade for season five, no longer on the fall schedule and with a reduced episode order. It's not entirely about ratings; if so, the WB-owned drama certainly could've beaten out other fall schedule choices like The Amazing Race and CBS-owned Elementary. But like with the Tuesday move two years ago, it just didn't stick out quite enough to force the network's hand in its favor.

Final Season as Filler

Person of Interest returned to its familiar Tuesday 10/9c timeslot for most of the final season, but not until May 2016. It also threw in a few bonus Monday episodes. For the most part, it was a shell of its former self ratings-wise, but a reasonable enough piece of filler to help CBS navigate the early part  of the summer. It fell as low as 0.8 for a Memorial Day airing on 5/30/16, but most of the season fell in the 0.9 to 1.0 area.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/5/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Voice (2.0) adjusted up while iZombie (0.6) was down a tenth.
  • Even with a fast-hemorrhaging lead-in from The Voice (1.9), a one-hour live episode of NBC's Undateable (1.3) noticeably improved the 9/8c hour week-to-week, up two tenths at 9:00 (1.4) vs. last week's 1.2 Undateable and up four tenths at 9:30 (1.2) vs. last week's One Big Happy. Chicago Fire stayed at its usual 1.6.
  • On CBS, though NCIS (2.0) was even at 8/7c, things completely fell apart from there with NCIS: New Orleans (1.6) tying its series low and Person of Interest (1.1) somehow having a complete meltdown on finale night. That was two tenths behind PoI's previous low!
  • On ABC, Agents of SHIELD posted another relatively normal 1.5 the week after the new Avengers movie, though this one may grade a little better since Dancing with the Stars (1.4) was lower at 8/7c. Forever (1.1) went out with a high-end rating by second half of the season standards.
  • Fox's Hell's Kitchen (1.2) and finale of New Girl (1.1) each ticked up.
  • The CW had another stellar late-season showing from The Flash (1.4) and another 0.7 from iZombie.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 4/14/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: Fresh Off the Boat, NCIS, Person of Interest, The Voice, Hell's Kitchen and The Flash were all up by 0.1.
  • It was a good night to be a comic book show. ABC's Agents of SHIELD (1.6) inched up for the second straight week and now looks quite healthy after sputtering to 1.4 a couple weeks ago. And the CW had a very good number for an Arrow crossover on The Flash (1.3), while iZombie (0.8) validated last week's seemingly crazy 0.7 after a repeat by rising to match the premiere rating. It seems like this is now a legitimate Supernatural-esque performer, which is very good news.
  • NBC's 9/8c comedy block returned after a week off, and there seems to be some separation developing between Undateable (1.5) and One Big Happy (1.1). The former's result was particularly decent given the continued erosion of its The Voice lead-in (2.4).
  • CBS had a pretty rough night with NCIS (1.9) bound for another new low. NCIS: New Orleans (1.8) and a Person of Interest (1.4) guest-starring Taraji P. Henson only barely recovered even against over a point less of NBC competition.
  • And with New Girl (0.5) in repeats, Weird Loners (0.6) shed a tenth in week three.

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 4/7/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The only adjustment was to NCIS: New Orleans (1.7), up a tenth.
  • NBC sat out its Tuesday comedies for another two-hour edition of The Voice (2.7), which as usual significantly boosted 10/9c occupant Chicago Fire (2.0). Preliminarily, this was very close to Fire's post-Voice ratings in early March when The Voice was much stronger.
  • Like the last time The Voice was two hours, this had a major effect on CBS' NCIS: New Orleans (1.6). Its NCIS (2.1) lead-in inched down to a new low and Person of Interest (1.3) was also on the low end.
  • ABC got some much-welcome relief for its sinking Tuesday lineup as Fresh Off the Boat (1.4) and Agents of SHIELD (1.5) both reclaimed the tenth lost last week. A repeat of Fresh at 8:30 (1.0) was also a one-tenth improvement on last week's Repeat After Me. Only Forever (0.9) was down as both of its drama competitors were back in action.
  • For Fox, at least it didn't get any worse at 9:30 as Weird Loners (0.7) was even in week two. But since that show's already dead, the far more pressing issue is New Girl (0.9), which has plummeted into disaster territory since Loners came around. It did face The Voice this week, but it was down another tenth from an already horrible result last week.
  • If it holds in finals, this was definitely the most encouraging result yet for iZombie, which held its 0.7 from the last two weeks despite following a repeat of The Flash (0.5). It'd be pretty good even if it doesn't hold in finals!

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/10/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The finals brought 0.2 to The Voice (3.8) and 0.1 to NCIS (2.2), Person of Interest (1.5), Fresh Off the Boat (1.6) and SHIELD (1.5). Most of the new season lows from the prelims still stood, though SHIELD is now only tied for its low.
  • After a couple days of shows proving pretty resilient against daylight saving time viewing depressions, Tuesday brought a good old-fashioned DST bloodbath. Every scripted series on ABC and CBS lost at least two tenths from the previous episode, and almost everything in the first two hours on every network hit a new season low. For ABC, Fresh Off the Boat (1.5) didn't have much to crow about but still seems acceptable by post-DST standards, while Agents of SHIELD (1.4) dropped another two tenths from last week's already "meh" return.
  • On CBS, there was a new season low 2.1 for NCIS and a particularly ugly 1.6 for NCIS: New Orleans; both shows have now lost nearly a full point over their last three episodes. The only consolation for NCIS: NO and SHIELD is that The Voice contracts back to an hour next week. Only Person of Interest (1.4) in the relatively viewing-unchanged 10:00 hour avoided a low.
  • NBC and Fox held up better, relatively speaking; another two-hour The Voice (3.6) was down about 10% from a really strong number last week, and Chicago Fire held last week's 2.1 final (but was down a tick from the prelim). And Fox's Hell's Kitchen (1.3) and The Mindy Project (0.9) each lost a tenth. The latter has the additional reason of New Girl (0.7) beginning a string of repeats to save originals for upcoming Weird Loners.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 2/24/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: There must have been some weird preemptions, as there were several atypical adjustments; NCIS (2.3), NCIS: New Orleans (2.0), Fresh Off the Boat (1.8) and New Girl (1.3) all went down. Only The Voice (3.9) went up.
  • NBC's The Voice (3.8) had a solid Tuesday return, growing by a tenth vs. the one-hour Tuesday premiere from last spring (though it was slightly below the 4.1 fall Tuesday premiere). But it didn't seem to much affect the one-hour series finale of Parks and Recreation (1.6). This was a two-season high and up about 40% vs. the hour of originals last week, but it probably wouldn't have done much worse (at least in the demo) in its usual 8/7c slot.
  • The story for the competitors was pretty similar to how it played out on Monday; namely, ABC and Fox were almost remarkably resilient. This was particularly good news for Fresh Off the Boat (1.9), which was dead even at a very good number against two more points of NBC competition. Week two of Repeat After Me (1.3) and the Agent Carter finale (1.3) each lost a tenth. Fox saw a small drop for MasterChef Junior (1.6) but no change for New Girl (1.4) and The Mindy Project (1.1).
  • Again, CBS took a minor hit for the combo of NCIS (2.4) and NCIS: New Orleans (2.0), but the week-to-week numbers don't look bad because they had already taken noticeable drops the week before. Meanwhile, Person of Interest (1.7) was above average at 10/9c as its main drama competitor Chicago Fire sat out for the night.
