FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (1.1) adjusted up while
Press Your Luck (0.6) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's Card Sharks fell back to 0.5, and this time it took Match Game (0.5) with it. Fox was on the uptick with MasterChef (0.8) and First Responders Live (0.5), as was NBC's The InBetween (0.4). The CBS originals (0.5/1.0) matched last Wednesday.
- The series finale of the CW's Jane the Virgin remained at 0.2 at 9/8c (while a Jane special at 8/7c also scored a 0.2).
FINALS UPDATE: S.W.A.T. (R)
(0.3),
Penn and Teller: Fool Us (R)
(0.2) and
Jane the Virgin (0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC got a small rebound from Card Sharks (0.6), while lead-in Press Your Luck (0.7) and lead-out Match Game (0.6) were even. Sharks pulled back ahead of Fox's First Responders Live (0.4) at 9/8c, as it and its lead-in MasterChef (0.7) both dropped.
- The CBS originals (0.5/1.0) matched last Wednesday, and NBC's The InBetween fell back to 0.3 for the first time since the holiday three weeks ago. The CW's Jane the Virgin (0.3) appears preempted?
FINALS UPDATE: Songland (R)
(0.5) adjusted up while
Love Island (0.5) and
First Responders Live (0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Back from two weeks off, ABC's Press Your Luck (0.7) and Card Sharks (0.5) each hit new Wednesday lows, losing each hour head-to-head against Fox's MasterChef (0.8) and First Responders Live (0.6) which tied their season highs. The consolation for ABC was that Match Game (0.6) stayed even at 10/9c and actually built from Sharks.
- CBS' Love Island edged back up to 0.6 as it got back to airing alongside Big Brother (1.0). Dramas The InBetween (0.4) and Jane the Virgin (0.2) were steady.
FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (1.1) and
MasterChef (0.8) adjusted up while
Ellen's Game of Games (R)
(0.6) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Night two of Love Island held onto the 0.6 from Tuesday's premiere, while Big Brother (1.0) was down a tick in its move to 9/8c. Fox returned to originals with a steady MasterChef (0.7) and an uptick from First Responders Live (0.5).
- ABC preempted its game show lineup in favor of the ESPY Awards (0.8/0.9/0.8), which were about in line with last year's 0.9.
FINALS UPDATE: Democratic Presidential Debate (1.8, +0.2) adjusted up while
The Amazing Race (0.7) and
Ellen's Game of Games (R)
(0.7) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Full table will be posted next week.
FINALS UPDATE: Press Your Luck (0.9),
Card Sharks (0.8) and
Match Game (0.7) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Free from Stanley Cup competition, it was mostly good news for the Wednesday week twos. ABC's game show newbies Press Your Luck (1.0) and Card Sharks (0.9) each picked up a tenth, while Match Game (0.8) was even at 10/9c. And Fox newbie First Responders Live (0.6) also inched up in its second week.
- The veterans were mostly steady, including MasterChef (0.7), Jane the Virgin (0.2) and the CBS originals (0.8/0.3). The lone decliner was NBC drama The InBetween (0.4), back from a week off and with a worse lead-in from Ellen's Game of Games repeats (0.5/0.7).
FINALS UPDATE: Stanley Cup Finals (2.7, +0.2) adjusted up while
Card Sharks (0.8) and
NCIS: The Cases They Can't Forget (0.3) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's new night of game shows showed almost as much strength as the old night of game shows. Newbies Press Your Luck (0.9) and Card Sharks (0.9) along with returnee Match Game (0.8) were all basically in line with the premiere results for the veteran Sunday lineup.
- Press Your Luck managed to beat out reality staples The Amazing Race (0.8) and MasterChef (0.7) in the 8/7c hour, and there was even less interest at 9/8c in the new MasterChef lead-out First Responders Live (0.5).
- All this came against a decisive seventh game of the Stanley Cup Finals (2.2/2.7/2.7) on NBC, which looks to have gone at least a half point ahead of Game 6 on Sunday.
FINALS UPDATE: NBA Finals (4.6, +0.9) and
The Amazing Race (0.9) adjusted up while
Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night (0.8, -1.1) and
NBA Countdown (1.2, -0.8) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Game 3 of the NBA Finals (3.4/3.9) had a slightly lower prelim than the first two.
- Up against the Finals, NBC saw drops for week two of American Ninja Warrior (0.8/0.9) and The InBetween (0.5), as did Fox with week two of MasterChef (0.7). CBS' The Amazing Race (0.8) and the CW's Jane the Virgin (0.2) were even.
FINALS UPDATE: Schooled (R)
(0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- The NBC summer rollout continued with the two-hour return of American Ninja Warrior (1.0) down by two tenths from last year's premiere. At 10/9c, new drama The InBetween (0.6) tied the year-ago premiere of Reverie.
- Fox's MasterChef mothership (0.8) returned for a new season, and was down two tenths from the 8/7c half of the premiere last year. It was tied for second at 8/7c with CBS' The Amazing Race (0.8), which led into the two-hour premiere of NCIS: The Cases They Can't Forget (0.4), previously known as 48 Hours: NCIS.
FINALS UPDATE: Live in Front of a Studio Audience (1.8) and
Chicago PD (1.0) adjusted up while
My Last Days (0.1) and
Jane the Virgin (0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- On the last day of the regular season, special programming took over in primetime as ABC offered Life in Front of a Studio Audience (1.7/1.7/1.8), a production of All in the Family and The Jeffersons episodes. At 9:30 was a Nightline special on the two shows (1.4), and that helped boost the Whiskey Cavalier finale (0.7) to its highest rating since week two.
- It was finale night for One Chicago, with PD (0.9) down a notch but Med (1.1) and Fire (1.1) both matching last week. CBS had a couple hours of The Amazing Race (0.9/0.7) and an uptick for the SEAL Team finale (0.7).
- The second half of Fox's MasterChef celebrity special (0.6) was up from last week, as was Jane the Virgin (0.3) on the CW. At 8/7c, the CDub welcomed back documentary series My Last Days (0.2).
FINALS UPDATE: Chicago Fire (1.1) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS aired its spring Survivor finale (1.6/1.5 from 8:00-10:00 and 1.3 in the 10:00 half-hour) and reunion (0.9 at 10:30) a week before the end of the season this year, and the finale looks to be up year-to-year (the year-ago spring finale had a 1.4 with a 0.9 reunion).
- With a lot less drama competition, NBC was up at 8/7c with Chicago Med (1.1), even at 9/8c with Chicago Fire (1.0) and up at 10/9c with Chicago PD (1.0).
- Fox had a MasterChef special (0.5) and still lower embarrassment from Paradise Hotel (0.3), while ABC replaced its wrapped comedies with movie Toy Story 2 (0.6), plus Whiskey Cavalier (0.4). The CW's Riverdale stayed at 0.3 for its season finale, but Jane the Virgin (0.2) gave back last week's uptick.
FINALS UPDATE: Survivor (1.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Finale night for Fox's Empire (1.2) and Star (1.0) saw each show pick up a tenth from last week, but significantly trail last season's 1.7/1.3 finales.
- NBC's Chicago trio (1.0/1.0/0.9) returned from a week off, with Med even at 8/7c but the other two inching down to new season lows.
- ABC was up in the 8/7c hour with The Goldbergs (1.1) and Schooled (0.9) but saw Whiskey Cavalier fall back to 0.4 at 10/9c, the first time it has done so with an original Single Parents lead-in (0.7). The lone mover on CBS was The Amazing Race (0.8), down for the third straight week since its premiere. And the CW at least preliminarily was up with Riverdale (0.3) and Jane the Virgin (0.3).
FINALS UPDATE: SEAL Team (0.6) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- In its second year on NBC, the Billboard Music Awards (1.9/2.2/2.1) moved to Wednesday and went 10-15% below last year's 2.35.
- The ABC comedies returned for the first time in three weeks and took hits across the board; The Goldbergs (1.0) and Single Parents (0.7) lost one tenth, while Schooled (0.8) and Modern Family (1.0) were down two. At 10/9c, Whiskey Cavalier (0.5) upticked from last week, but was still down from three weeks ago when it last had an original lead-in.
- CBS' Survivor (1.4) and The Amazing Race (0.9) were also on the downtick, while SEAL Team (0.7) along with the dramas on Fox (1.1/0.9) and CW (0.2/0.2) were even.
FINALS UPDATE: Survivor (1.5) adjusted up while
Riverdale (0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- NBC's Chicago trio (1.0/1.1/1.0) was back from a couple weeks off, and all three shows matched three weeks ago.
- Against NBC's return, CBS dropped with both Survivor (1.4) and The Amazing Race (1.0), while ABC's Whiskey Cavalier fell to its first 0.4 after another round of comedy repeats (0.6/0.5/0.5/0.4).
- On Fox, Empire (1.1) and Star (0.9) were even, while the CW's Riverdale (0.3) had the only uptick of the night.
FINALS UPDATE: Modern Family (R)
(0.5) and
Single Parents (R)
(0.4) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- The Amazing Race (1.2) made a late-spring return on CBS. It was down from the show's breakout return in early winter 2018 (1.6), but still toward the high end of the show's premieres historically. (The 2017 premiere, in a relatively similar time of year, pulled a 0.9 on a Thursday at 10/9c.) Survivor (1.5) was even and SEAL Team (0.7) picked up a tenth with the upgraded lead-in.
- ABC's Whiskey Cavalier fell back to 0.5 following comedy repeats (0.7/0.6/0.6/0.5), while Fox's dramas (1.1/0.9) were even. The CW's Riverdale returned from hiatus with its first ever 0.2.
FINALS UPDATE: Schooled (1.0) adjusted up while
NCIS (R)
(0.5) and
Chicago Med (R)
(0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- With Million Dollar Mile gone from the schedule, an older-skewing NCIS repeat (0.6) did worse at 9/8c and failed to boost SEAL Team (0.6) at 10/9c. Survivor (1.5) easily led the night again.
- ABC got a few comedy upticks from Schooled (0.9), Modern Family (1.2) and Single Parents (0.8), and Fox's Empire (1.1) and Star (0.9) gave back last week's upticks, and NBC's Chicago shows were in repeats.
FINALS UPDATE: Single Parents (0.7) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's comedies returned with Schooled falling to 0.8 between The Goldbergs (1.1) and Modern Family (1.1), while Single Parents (0.8) was actually up at 9:30. With the return of an original lead-in, Whiskey Cavalier (0.6) inched up as well.
- Week two of Million Dollar Mile (0.8) shed a tenth for CBS, as did its lead-in Survivor (1.5). The drama wars swung back a bit in Fox's direction, as Empire (1.2) and Star (1.0) were both up while Chicago Med (1.0), Chicago Fire (1.1) and Chicago PD (1.0) were all down. And with an encore (0.1) of last week's premiere as a lead-in, Jane the Virgin (0.2) dropped from last week.
FINALS UPDATE: Survivor (1.6) adjusted up while
Schooled (R)
(0.5),
Modern Family (R)
(0.5) and
Million Dollar Mile (0.9) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS got an OK start for reality newbie Million Dollar Mile (1.0) at 9/8c, leading out of Survivor (1.5). The show tied The World's Best Wednesday premiere from early February (which was just three days after a post-Super Bowl airing) and also tied SEAL Team's highest rating in the 9/8c hour this season. But MDM was no help to SEAL Team (0.6), which hit its second straight new low in the 10/9c hour.
- ABC's Whiskey Cavalier fell to its first 0.5, airing after comedy repeats (0.7/0.7/0.6/0.4).
- Back to originals for the first time in a month, NBC's Chicago series (1.2/1.2/1.1) were all even. They were ahead of the Fox dramas, as Empire (1.1) fell to a new low and Star (0.9) tied its Halloween low.
- And the CW welcomed back Jane the Virgin (0.3) for its final season, tying its lead-in from Riverdale (0.3). Jane tied its highest rating from last season (which aired on Friday).
