First Two Weeks, Welcome to the Family

WEEK ONE
NBC's Welcome to the Family is currently broadcast's weakest premiere of the 2013-14 season, opening its run on Thursday at 8:30 with a pathetic 1.1 demo. The only "positive" here was that it was just a tenth behind its lead-in from Parks and Recreation (1.2). But a series that can't at least hold a 1.2 for its premiere is not a series that will be around for very long.

WEEK TWO
NBC had a massive comedy meltdown the next week, and it started with Welcome to the Family, down by a steep 27% to a 0.8. Thanks to Lucky 7, it's not the weakest newbie week two, but this is still at a clear pull-me-now level.

PROGNOSIS
Not much to say here except that it seems to be headed for a week three airing, which was far from a given. It had arguably the worst weeknight timeslot on a big four network, with a lead-in both weak and incompatible, plus no real way of drawing viewers on its own. That's unfortunate, as I find it a pleasant enough watch. But once NBC figures out how to do something about their nightmare Thursday, it's almost certainly first out the door. Cancel.

"First Two Weeks" is an ongoing experiment to see how often a new scripted show's fate can be predicted by the very earliest data. Here are the picks and lineups for every show this season.

It's a goner. Nothing else to add.

Clicking 'The Goldbergs' takes you to the vault page, any other part of the sentence takes you to the First Two Weeks page. It's two links in one, but it doesn't look like it. It got me as well.

Renew. Sony produces this thing.

I wonder what kind of odds you could've gotten in Vegas on a parlay of "The Walking Dead goes over 8.0" and "Welcome to the Family gets renewed"...
