Spotted Ratings, Sunday 9/21/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • CBS had broadcast primetime to itself from an entertainment standpoint, but the early numbers don't look like anything special. The premiere of Madam Secretary predictably skewed quite ancient, with 14.75 million viewers and a 2.0 demo rating (putting less than 20% of its audience in the key demo). The Good Wife had over 11 million and a 1.4 in the finals. CBS got a very good situation with its late afternoon Super Bowl rematch going into overtime; the network averaged a 10.2 at 8:00 and 10.3 at 8:30, then 60 Minutes dropped to a 4.4 at 9:00 and 2.8 at 9:30.

1.3 with no competition? At this point CBS should already be telling the writers to wrap everything up this season, because I imagine the show would do better in streaming syndication with a definite series finale, but there's no way it's getting renewed after this. Surely?!?

Nailbiter on the Question. I'd very possibly have gone Under if the Seahawks had held on to their two-possession lead...

Madam Secretary skewing 83% old. In preliminaries, at least. I guess only CBS show skewing older is Blue Bloods.

Good Wife should be done after this season. Premiering to a 1.3 against nothing is unacceptable. That's lower than New Girl and Mindy Project, and they had a weaker lead in. Good Wife is gonna get its ass kicked by Resurrection, Walking Dead, FOX comedies, Homeland and football overruns.

The Good Wife should have done better considering it's probably the best lead-in and competition it will have for a long time this year. I still think the show will be renewed for a seventh season, though probably a short one a la The Mentalist this year.

And an entire nation awaits for those final adjustments as Spot nails the line once again!

I can take solace in knowing I was at least preliminarily right on going Over, even if it goes down in the finals.
.
The Good Wife should have done better. It wasn't really even a bad start time.

If a FOX late afternoon game went as long as the one on CBS, would they just forgo the OT?

I think it'll get a defined series ending, but a few more performances like this and surely the writers will be told to wrap it up by May.

Go American Dad! for beating the Mindy Project premiere with the worse lead in for its basic burnoff finale!!!

Generally, yes.

It's still too early but I honestly doubt it. I do expect CBS to have a great year in dramas so that could make its case harder but every year people predict it's a goner and it's still here. I think they will give it the short final 7th season like the writers have planned all along.

Apparently time-zone adjusted fast nationals are in, and Madam Secretary adjusted...

...UP!

Yeah, I'm surprised too.

I'm worried about The Good Wife.

Rooting for a summer moving for a final season, CBS won't accept sub 1s and it has only survived because its critical acclaim, because otherwise they'll tell it to wrap up by the end of the season.
