War of 18-49 Update, Private Practice (2012-13)

Let's take a look at the 2012-13 season (the sixth and final overall) of Private Practice on ABC.

Rating the Ratings: Early in the season, it looked like Private Practice might be able to hold onto roughly the same demo audience it had in its Tuesday run from last spring. But when Dancing with the Stars moved to the 8:00 hour and Private Practice had to lead out of the terribly-rated comedy hour, things soured in a big way. Private Practice spent most of the stretch run in the low-1's and didn't even build on its Apartment 23 lead-in all the time. I give it a bit of a pass because leading out of Apartment 23 is worlds tougher than leading out of Grey's Anatomy (which it did for most of last season), but it was reasonable to expect better than this. Just look at how its timeslot competitor Parenthood held up when airing out of a weak comedy. Grade: D.

Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Private Practice.

...on ABC, not CBS.

The show did much better in L+7, regularly almost doubling its L+SD ratings, so clearly the timeslot was a major issue, but I agree its ratings were a huge disappointment either way.
