First Two Weeks, Constantine

WEEK ONE
Rating: 1.4
Lead-in: Grimm (1.4 overall, 1.4 at 9:30)
Competition: 20/20 (1.5), Blue Bloods (1.3), World Series Game 3 (3.1 overall, 3.5/3.6 in 10:00 hour).

WEEK TWO
Rating: 0.9 (-36%)
Lead-in: Grimm (1.1 overall, 1.1 at 9:30)
Competition: 20/20 (1.4), Blue Bloods (1.1). (Overall viewing levels were down 10% week-to-week on Friday due to Halloween, but a bit less than that in the 10:00 hour.)

Will this show get a second season? You make the call!

To play the game, here are your submission choices:
1) "Renew (Not Confident)" or "Cancel (Not Confident)": +1 point for a win, 0 points for a loss.
2) "Renew (Confident)" or "Cancel (Confident)": +2 points for a win, -2 points for a loss.

These choices must be locked by Saturday, November 8 at 6:00 am ET.

3) You may also guess "Renew" or "Cancel" after the deadline, up to exactly one week later. ALL guesses in this period will be worth +1 point for a win and -1 point for a loss. You can NOT change a guess after the deadline if you submitted before the deadline.

I am really not as down on this as most people are as I think it has unfortunate circumstances in both of its airings so far and the retention metric has been very solid in both of its cases. If Grimm spikes this week (and that is a roller coaster show that has definitely shown to be able to do that), then it is possible that Constantine goes back up with it.

But this is still a by the book cancellation with a so-so premiere number and a very bad week two drop. So I have to go with cancel and I am still saying confident with the risk of being burned tomorrow by this.

Constantine is one show that was disadvantaged in its first two weeks: facing increased competition from the World Series and then viewing-depressed Halloween night. Even if this is a Chicago Fire case and Week 2 just ends up being the weakest data point, deferring for a week won't help unless it regains that 0.5 (and then some) tonight. But why sacrifice a point in this game for that unlikely outcome?

I'm going with a defer. Since for some reason Hannibal just started filming, it makes me think Costantine will get it air out its order. Even Dracula did and it fell as low as a .7!

Cancel with confidence, it'll perk up to a 1.1 but it's not enough to earn renewal

Cancel (confident). There's a lot of disadvantages it had for its premiere, but Hannibal will be ready around April, so maybe a bridge pick-up, but another horror show will be coming next season.

Just like others said, there were some extenuating circumstances for underwhelming premiere numbers, and plain bad Episode 2 ratings. But even if Constantine bounces back in following episodes, it would need to be unprecedented bound to earn it any kind of renewal chance.

Cancel (confident), but I do think it will finish out its order and maybe get a small extension.
