Spotted Ratings, Monday 3/18/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  • It says a lot about how rough fall 2012 was for Dancing with the Stars that a premiere down by 9% year-to-year even though there's no The Voice in the mix is considered a big win. And yet... it is legitimately a big win. This number was well above any Monday airings from the fall 2012 season. It's far from out of the woods, because The Voice looms next week, but it certainly got off on the right foot.
  • NBC also had good news with a big finale bump for The Biggest Loser, which hit its largest number since the Sunday premiere in early January. It closed a season of year-to-year growth with an impressive 23% build on last spring's finale.
  • Competing scripted offerings on Fox and CBS had a surprisingly rough time against the new competition. Nearly every single 8:00 to 10:00 show on those networks was down multiple ticks from its last original, with CBS' 9:00 anchor 2 Broke Girls a particularly ugly spot as it went miles below any previous result. Considering The Voice isn't even back yet... not good.

I have a theory on that: Tonight was "let's bail on the show" night for a big chunk of the 2 Broke Girls audience that's fed up w/ the stupid vagina jokes...

The CBS Monday comedy block continues to weaken.

If ABC moved DWTS/Bachelor to another night to avoid competition from The Voice then it would be a good place for them to put a single-camera comedy block.

Assuming it's not adjusted down, Dancing with the Stars' premiere outrated even its Fall finale. So far, so good.

I believe this is the first Monday that CBS' sitcoms have also had to contend with DST, so that plus the premiere & finale action on the other networks probably explains the deflation.
