Spotted Ratings, Thursday 5/29/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Just in case NBC needed some more good news this summer, they got it from a rather shockingly decent start out of Thursday sitcom Undateable (1.3 at 9:00, 1.3 at 9:30). It fully retained its Hollywood Game Night lead-in (1.3 at 8:30, 1.2 overall) and outrated most of the comedies NBC put on Thursday in the regular season. I really thought this was a burn-off, and NBC seemed to think so too given it's slated to double-pump against the NBA Finals for the next two or three Thursdays. They may be kicking themselves for that scheduling at this point. If it's too late to jerk it elsewhere, maybe they can just waste one original at a time in the short-term?
  • NBC also saw Last Comic Standing (1.6) hold up nicely, down just a tenth in week two.
  • Fox also held up well on the last pre-NBA Finals Thursday with Hell's Kitchen (1.6) and Gang Related (1.0), which actually adjusted up to exceed last week's premiere.

Can't blame you for thinking that this was a burnoff. NBC press release says this 1.3 is the best debut since 2009 for a summer comedy with the Goode Family, probably the last legit attempt at summer comedy, and the most viewed in 7 years. That's pre writers strike! I mean last year's "summer shows" were Goodwin Games, Save Me, Family Tools, and How to Live... The last two started in season and just continued into summer and I think How To Live was the only one to break a 1 all summer

Spot,
Do you know what Last Comic Standing's second rating was in 2010? Is that 1.6 widening or thinning the gap between seasons?

Spot said...

It rose to 2.2 in week two, then dropped big in three (1.8) and four (1.6). I'll put up Vaults for the two seasons I have (2008 & 2010) sometime soon.

I think NBC just has a much larger base audience in general these days. Which definitely bodes well for them for the 2014-2015 season.

If Crossbones does well tonight, I will laugh so hard. Revenge of the burn-offs.

Dateline NBC will have basically have no competition as Shark Tank, Undercover Boss, and Hawaii 5-0 are in repeat mode. The Friday repeat of I Wanna Marry Harry might hit a .1 rating. It should be able to give Crossbones a decent lead in and Crossbones itself has no competition.

If Shark Tank keeps this up, maybe we need a big hit(Fri) label. :-)

Spot said...

I would think that anything that hits the league average on Fridays deserves big hit(Fri), no?

Spot said...

Is FOX going to repeat it, seriously?

Spot said...

Casual viewers left fox for nbc.

Even a summer burn-off getting those ratings, interesting.

NBC is the new FOX and FOX the new NBC. Amazing. Any prospects for an Undateable renewal?!? Even the skew was pretty good!

Spot said...

I wouldn't be surprised if Undateable actually gets a midseason run if the numbers hold...however, there's already so many comedies for midseason, so who knows?

Spot said...

Damn, I guess Harry pulled a Perfect Score. Terrible Tuesday rating and a Friday rating doing the same

Spot said...

What are you people talking about? Undateable sucks, 1.3 sucks, and NBC was right to burn it off.

Comparison:
100 Questions: 0.8
Save Me: 0.7

Maybe I shouldn't have been too gung-ho and surprised, but for a show on the summer that the Peacock had little interest in being long-term it's still pretty impressive.

I love this show on ABC, can't wait to check it out and witness real weight loss.
