Spotted Ratings, Friday 5/9/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • A week after its biggest Friday of the season, Shark Tank (1.9) came back to earth with a traditional repeat (1.0) leading in at 8/7c.
  • Finale night on CBS saw Hawaii Five-0 (1.3) inch off of last week's low, but Unforgettable (0.8) and Blue Bloods (1.4) were down.
  • The CW was on the upswing with Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.5) and recently renewed Hart of Dixie (0.3). This combo beat Fox's badly rejected encore of the two-hour 24: Live Another Day premiere (0.3).

Scratch that. I'm changing my CBS mock schedule, because Deadline now has article about scheduling rumors.

Now they say: Scorpion to Thursday. The Odd Couple to midseason, CSI: Cyber to midseason too.
That all makes sense, Scorpion to Thu 9 PM is consistent with only 3 blocks of comedies, and it's better to put drama there before The Blacklist arrival. Maybe they plan to revert to two Thursday comedy blocks in midseason for total 4. Might be total 3 in midseason, but with only one block on Monday. Or they'll play by the air, and decide later if it's 3 or 4.

I suspect it's the last option. I think in midseason CBS will revert to original Thursday plan: The Big Bang Theory / The Odd Couple / The Millers / Two and a Half Men. While for Monday, they'll decide depending on how's The McCarthys performing. If it flops, they'll have one Monday block in midseason (Mike & Molly or 2 Broke Girls shorter order, or sharing timeslot), and put new drama at 9 PM.
Note that drama launched at midseason Mon 9 PM would have much less competition than it is case in the fall - there's no MNF, The Following is weaker than Sleepy Hollow, and Voice / DWTS are in lower rated of their 2 cycles.
While if comedies are doing fine, then midseason drama would launch elsewhere, and CBS would actually go back to 4 comedy blocks.

CSI: Cyber already was pretty much sure to go midseason Wed 10 PM, replacing CSI, which goes to Sun 10 PM (Mentalist has 13 episodes order).

Madam Secretary - Friday 8 PM, with Undercover Boss airing only in 2nd half of the season? Or simply replacing The Good Wife (that might have shorter order if it is final season) on Sunday?
In my mock schedule I put it on fall Friday 8 PM with Undercover Boss in the midseason. But that isn't an option if CBS plans to have 4 comedy blocks in midseason. Then they would need Friday slot for new drama (or to move PoI there, and launch new drama at Mon 10 PM), and consequently Undercover Boss would have to be in the fall schedule. Still I have Madam Secretary in the fall schedule, as without it my mock schedule would have only 3 fall premieres (and only 2 in September), which doesn't seem right with 8 new shows picked (9 with undead Mentalist).

Stalker - with this news, it's backup for anything that fails. And if nothing fails, pushed to summer. Too bad, it looks like perfect companion for Criminal Minds.

Elementary - this new schedule is more robust with less moves, so I'm reverting to it airing (only first few episodes) on Tuesday, and I'm moving NCIS: NOLA on 9 PM to get the strongest possible lead-in.

Final CBS mock schedule
SEPTEMBER
Mon: The Big Bang Theory / The McCarthys / 2 Broke Girls / Mom / Person of Interest
Tue: NCIS / NCIS: NOLA / Elementary
Wed: Survivor / Criminal Minds / CSI
Thu: Thursday Night Football
Fri: Madam Secretary / Hawaii 5-0 / Blue Bloods
Sun: 60 Minutes / The Amazing Race / The Good Wife / The Mentalist

NOVEMBER
Mon: 2 Broke Girls / The McCarthys / Mike & Molly / Mom / Person of Interest
Tue: NCIS / NCIS: NOLA / NCIS: LA
Thu: The Big Bang Theory / The Millers / Scorpion / Elementary

MIDSEASON
Mon: 2 Broke Girls / Mom / Battle Creek / Person of Interest
Tue: same... unless NCIS: NOLA flops - then put Stalker at 10 PM, and LA back to 9 PM.
Wed: Survivor / Criminal Minds / CSI: Cyber
Thu: The Big Bang Theory / The Odd Couple / The Millers / Two and a Half Men / Elementary
Fri: Undercover Boss / Hawaii 5-0 / Blue Bloods
Sun: 60 Minutes / The Amazing Race / Madam Secretary / CSI
