Spotted Ratings, Monday 2/23/15

WHAT MATTERS:
  • FINALS UPDATE: The Voice (4.1) adjusted up to tie the fall premiere. Gotham (2.3) also added a tenth, making it a half point of growth in two weeks. And Castle dropped to its third consecutive 1.6.
  • NBC returned to ratings relevancy with the latest two-hour premiere of The Voice (4.0). This was down 15% from an Olympics-promoted premiere a year ago, and very close to the fall 2014 premiere's 4.1 which faced huge competition.
  • But if that was fairly as-expected, the good news ended promptly at 10/9c. Former summer drama The Night Shift (1.5) just barely retained a third of its Voice 9:30 lead-in (4.4) and couldn't even get to its high point from the summer. It's gotta be hugely disheartening for NBC to see a Voice premiere lead-out drop all the way to third place, behind both Castle (1.7) and NCIS: Los Angeles (1.6). This was basically where State of Affairs settled in its last post-Voice weeks; how much worse can it possibly get?!
  • Despite the added NBC presence, ABC's The Bachelor (2.6) and Castle (1.7) were completely unfazed and Fox's Gotham (2.2) comeback rolled on, picking up another tenth (and now four in the last two weeks). The season and perhaps series finale of Sleepy Hollow (1.4) was even.
  • The only network that got nicked at all was CBS, as 2 Broke Girls (2.1), Mike and Molly (2.0) and Scorpion (2.1) all went back to about what they were doing when they last faced The Voice in December.

CBS is the network that hates The Voice the most.

I'm also surprised to see The Bachelor held despite going against The Voice. I'd have imagined it to fall somewhat since they both target the same demo.

Spot said...

The Question is: Will The Night go fractional the next week?

Spot said...

This is a total embarrassment for NBC.

Even bringing back Blacklist would be a terrible idea, since they've already reduced its life in three years with the mine and would be admitting total defeat.

Even Voice didn't bite hard. CBS lost mostly 1 or 2 tenths.

Spot said...

Perhaps nitpicky, Mike & Molly is above its last airings against The Voice. In fact no 2014 episode this season broke a 2.0 while every 2015 episode has!

Spot said...

I'm mad. It totally ruined undateable's question. Now it's cancel (confident) for all three.

Spot said...

Take solace in the fact that it means that Parks & Recreation will end up as NBC's #1 comedy.

Take that, Greenblatt.

Spot said...

My bold prediction is getting real.

Farewell question: Parks and Recreation finale, over/under 1.85?

Line is below 2.0. Could the voice's audience totally reject it or being a veteran would prevent this to happen and bring some extra eyeballs?

Spot said...

In honor of the end of Parks and Recreation tonight, here are some Parks and Rec Fun Facts
1. It has been a midseason replacement 3 times, but never two seasons in a row. And never for the same amount of episodes (6, 16, 13).
2. It has aired an original episode in all 6 half hours of Thursday! As well as 2 half hours on Tuesdays at 8 and an addition 2 half hours for its finale at 10 tonight. That's TEN half hours of original episodes.
3. It's closing will leave the entirity of NBC's All New ER-less Thursday lineup gone as all of My Name is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock, and Southland have either been cancelled or ended.

Spot said...

Lol. Remember when NBC tried comedies at 10 PM?

Wait a minute...

Spot said...

I'll say over. This isn't a show with a former huge fan base to call back on, but Parenthood showed that doesn't mean you can't spike for the finale. And this show has aired at 10 before! I think you'll have fans watching that haven't watched since The Office left.

Spot said...

Yep. I'm picking over at 2.0. I was between 1.85 and 1.95 for the line. I picked the lowest thanks to Night Shift's letdown.

Spot said...

I'd say over. It seems to be the kind of young-skewing comedy that does well with The Voice.

Spot said...

"This was basically where State of Affairs settled in its last post-Voice weeks".

But this is worse. State of Affairs 5th episode got 1.5 out of 2.8 The Voice (2.9 last half-hour) on Dec 15. True was 1.4. The Night Shift did same 1.5 last night (at best, it might be adjusted down) out of 50% stronger The Voice (second hour is 4.4). Then TNS did something like 1.2 in True today.

The Night Shift is dead. Unless it can transform back to summer show.

Spot said...

I take an over. Even Parenthood did close to that with no voice and against Murder.

Spot said...

I agree this is much worse. And even my rudimentary TRUE formula is accusing the night shift of having just a 1.2 last night. Damn is this horrible.

Spot said...

Under.

I learned my lesson, I'm going under on all NBC questions during next 19 months (until September of 2016). I won't even look how the line is set, I swear.

Spot said...

Well, that was a disaster. God knows what Undateable will do. Heck, AD will probably get a 1.9.

Spot said...

It should be noted that 10 PM comedies 30 Rock/Outsourced were doimg better than 8 PM Community/Perfect Couples. I think NBC would have been better off scheduling comedy 9-11 in the 2011-12 season. The Office/Up All Night/Parks and Recreation/Community lineup could have worked.
Other fun fact: After its closing tonight, Parks will leave only a single broadcast show still running to air in the 10 o'clock hour, Cougar Town. And that's not even on broadcast anymore!

Spot said...

Under. 1.5, unless the finale has one of the Voice judges in it.

Spot said...

That would be both funny and sad for NBC. Greenblatt needs to go.

Spot said...

Anyway, the real question is which is pulled first? Allegiance, Slap, or Night Shift?

Spot said...

It's finale last year had the First Lady and it got a 1.0

Spot said...

And that show is also ending as well.

Spot said...

Allegiance IMO.

Spot said...

They don't need to admit anything as their poor performance this season for scripted shows speaks for itself.

Spot said...

Castle is trending up even before DWTS return.
1.38 --> 1.59 --> 1.62 --> 1.7 preliminary

I think next week it's preempted (The Bachelor - After the Rose), but let's see if it can go even higher with DWTS lead-in. And let's see how high Castle needs to go for people to stop mock-scheduling it on Sunday.

Spot said...

Slap is a mini series, so that'll most likely get burned off even if it changes nights so it's down to Allegiance or Night Shift and that's if NBC pulls it off, they've let other low rated shows play out.

Spot said...

As someone who has wanted it on Sundays, I take your point that yes, it has improved enough. But I would still like it on Sundays at 10 because I truly believe it would improve that slot like no other show they have could do (they won't put TGIT there obviously) and because I like Tuesdays at 10 better to launch a new show. But I agree it is looking less and less likely now. If only Nashville could be removed from the equation, then it would be possible. I wish ABC would turn it into a summer show to burn off episodes for syndication.

Spot said...

Nashville would make sense to plug into that spot especially if they decide to end it there.

Spot said...

Likely not next week because The Voice should only fall around 10 to 15% in the ratings, but it will likely get close to a 1.0.

Spot said...

Yes, Castle on Sunday would make more sense if there wasn't need to put Nashville somewhere. Nashville is problem, for some reason Lionsgate is hell bent to drag it to 88 episodes (we know it because they didn't agree on 13 episodes Season 3 ABC offer).

Spot said...

Could they bring State of Affairs back or order something new? State didn't do all that great either.

Spot said...

It's basically there to scrape by syndication, i know it had a relatively late renewal so I guess plenty of negotiating/deal.

Spot said...

They already tried that, it's not working.

Spot said...

Remember when NBC actually had hit comedies? Lol.

Spot said...

Idk, I hope it does get a bump like Parenthood did especially out of the Voice unlike TNS.

Spot said...

It's ok, I'm sure CBS is laughing at NBC's scripted line up.

Spot said...

It's NBC mid-season hole-filling fantasy scheduling time again! Move Chicago PD to Monday at 10, assuming there's no more crossovers. Move The Night Shift to wherever (Wednesday at 10, Friday at 8, Saturday, Summer).

Doubt the three-way procedural logjam at 10 helped The Night Shift, so that might have had an impact on Chicago PD too.

Spot said...

*might have an impact on Chicago PD too, sorry.

Spot said...

Their best hope is God abolishes spring, and we jump directly to summer.
And while at that, God to abolish Thursday too.

Spot said...

Next week is Secrets and Lies repeat after The Bachelor: The Women Tell All. Then it's three hours of The Bachelor finale on the 9th. Castle returns on the 16th.

Spot said...

Ahahah. This is one of your best ones yet!

Spot said...

And NBC just congratulated the good work by renewing Jennifer Salke's contract as president of entertainment.

Spot said...

Castle's resurgence is really, pleasantly, odd. I guess I'll just chalk it up to being a correction to how the show's overachieved in the past two seasons.

Gotham getting some heat is a good thing with DST right around the corner. Too bad that it'll just make The Following look even more disappointing paired with it.

With CBS dipping only back to versus-Voice levels with their shows, that's definitely a positive as this is the higher-rated portion of the reality show's season.

Definitely not a winner: NBC. Only getting back to roughly the Fall debut numbers with much less competition is a big deal. And someone call a code black for The Night Shift. NBC would have been much better off ordering full seasons of Parenthood and Parks & Recreation to help them through this morass. They far exceeded expectations in their runs as well as Celebrity Apprentice.

Spot said...

It's funny how that worked out for Parenthood and P&R.

As for Castle, it seems to be back in its regular range and rebounded from its 1.3/1.4 range it had earlier.

Spot said...

He's going to have to do better than that at this rate.

Spot said...

I no longer watch Castle but it had a two par event for the previous two weeks, it may have been enough to build enough momentum that could have also extended to last night's episode. Also, The Bachelor is so high right now that even as incompatible, it should be enough help. The early bachelor episodes were lower rated and still incompatible.

Spot said...

Has any else noticed that Gotham has just aired episode 17, and episode 18 airsnext week. So that brings me to this question:

Is Gotham ending early, and if so, what will be it's replacement?

Spot said...

Just to put this Night Shift failure into context - based on the preliminary breakdown of a two-hour telecast, Ready For Love's first hour had better post-Voice retention than this.

Let that sink in for a second.

Spot said...

Over/under on the number of remaining episodes before NBC move Night Shift? I'll set the line at 3.5.

Spot said...

More fun facts!

It started as NBC's 4th highest rated comedy and ended as NBC's #1 comedy!

18-49+ season trend: 79, 74, 95, 78, 77, 62, 75-80

It ends as NBC's second oldest scripted show, after SVU. At the start of the season, it was one of three scripted shows to predate Greenblatt's tenure on NBC, along with Parenthood and SVU (no, Heroes Reborn doesn't count). With Parks gone, every single scripted show from the Zucker/Reilly/Silverman/Gaspin eras have been cancelled (Ben Silverman developed Parks, Community and Parenthood during his two year tenure as network head, SVU was developed under Warren Littlefield(!)).

Deadline leaked testing from the Parks pilot when Finke was at war with Ben Silverman. Of particular interest is the note about a lack of a "likeable male lead", long before they added Ben and Chris.

Spot said...

I honestly wouldn't like to say. Everything is blowing up so NBC could easily might shrug their shoulders and keep it there if it can stay around low 1s.

Or just move Grimm there! Move Grimm everywhere!

Spot said...

Scorpion also aired episode 17 last night. I am not sure why but the Monday dramas appear to be having that problem this year more than in the past. Considering both are very much bright spots for their networks, anything earlier than a late April finale would surprise me. Both networks have shown willigness to finish their shows before May Sweeps (CBS did it last year with Mom and Intelligence [although that one was a flop] and I believe 2BG also ended before time, while FOX finished The Following earlier for the last two seasons, including in its first year when it was a big hit).

My non educated guess is that Scorpion get some extension and CBS tries to ride it out until the first week of May Sweeps or so with maybe a 2 hour LA finale afterwards whereas Gotham finishes in late April and the original Masterchef takes over for May Sweeps.

Spot said...

Yeah. My grandma used to say:
"Don't make waves when you're neck-deep in shit."

Spot said...

The implication behind your question is a good one. NBC doesn't have unlimited bullets in the chamber, so do they fire on Monday to give a show something resembling an upside with the post-Voice slot or do they fire on Thursday to try and salvage the most promising young show not called Chicago [Blank]? Or they can fire at both/neither?

Monday is simple to fix since it's just one hour, and even a band-aid solution is ok to have since they just try again in Fall 2015. But Thursday simply needs to be fixed since they've already committed to a third season of The Blacklist and NBC needs to make their bad decision look less bad.

If I had to play the cards NBC has been dealt, I'd address Thursday and just let Monday go; The Voice does well enough to mask a one-hour problem while The Blacklist's low performance is the problem on Thursday. But If NBC goes for Monday too, I wouldn't be surprised to see The Night Shift swap timeslots with The Mysteries of Laura.

Spot said...

Grimm everywhere lol. Now watch them sacrifice the show Fridays at 8 while we stand witnesses!

Spot said...

Moving The Mysteries of Laura wouldn't be a bad way to solve the problem, but NBC seems to have already given up on the show.

Then again, everyone thought they'd given up on The Night Shift and Undateable, yet here we are...

Spot said...

If not some repeats, then maybe "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader" ? Hell's Kitchen will air Tuesdays, beginning March 3, and I don't think they would like to have 2 hours of Ramsey in regular season. And other than "5th Grader" I don't see anything else ready in time for April premiere.

I thought they would schedule Wayward Pines there. But someone explained to me here in comments that Terrence Howard is starring in both Empire and Wayward Pines, so it would confuse the audience. Then I get why it's scheduled for Thursday in summer (premieres May 14th out of Idol finale).

But I don't understand why Fox didn't try Backstrom on Monday. Maybe it wouldn't earn renewal worthy numbers there either, but surely would do better than it's doing against heavy scripted competition on Thursday, and would do better than Gotham repeats.

Spot said...

That feels about the right line, it's NBC so Under.

Spot said...

Don't forget Tuesdays. There is also the possibility that the comedies bomb hard and that day also needs saving. All in all, I would priorize a move to help Tuesdays and Thursdays over any move to help Mondays. Because on Mondays no show is being hurt. But bad Tuesdays and Thursdays will continue to harm the blacklist and chicago fire and NBC needs both of those shows badly moving forward.

Spot said...

They had two hours of Ramsey in the fall Tuesday-Wednesday. Yes Masterchef Jr. was planned for Friday first but there were still two planned hours

As for Backstorm, I think they wanted to try it out in the regular season and they don't want to finish Gotham before late April (Which makes sense considering how much long hiatuses have been hurting shows). If it were to premiere in very late April/ early May it would air mostly in the summer. I also don't believe they thought the show had self starting potential so I kind of think it was always 9pm bound. A better question is why didn't they throw The Following to Thursday and aired Backstorm 9pm Mondays. I don't know the answer to that. I guess FOX sees more upside even in The Following than Backstorm. And that's saying a lot.

Spot said...

Wow. Thanks for blast from the past. I've completely forgotten Ready for Love ever existed. Was it a prequel to I Wanna Marry Harry?

And Splash, that was about some celebrities (or "celebrities") diving? Then cancelled when those out of shape people started getting hurt?

Body of Proof ratings makes SHIELD looking like a hit.

Spot said...

Tuesday is a relatively simple fix if the comedies bomb out: shift The Voice down an hour to 9:00. Or are you suggesting a The Voice | Chicago Fire | Mysteries of Laura Tuesday night?

Spot said...

Let this also sink it, the 2 hour premiere of Ready for Love, despite being a flop, was an improvement on the comedy and Smash lineup of the earlier week.

Spot said...

No Tuesday is most easy to fix if needed. They would just move The Voice to 9 PM with 8 PM being Hollywood Game Night, or The Voice clip show, or even those failed multicam comedies.

Spot said...

Yeah I agree. No, I wasn't suggesting that. I am against propping Laura in general because I don't think it is strong enough to warrant it. It would likely end up scoring a pity renewal and just cost money to NBC next year while being a liability on the schedule. The Tuesday fix you suggest is easy though.

Spot said...

Yeah I agree. I think Game Night is needed Thursdays at 8 because I have no idea what else could go there (ideas?). On Tuesdays at 8 I would just burn off comedies. I would avoid Voice clip shows since I think it already is over exposed as it is, but that's a technicality.

Spot said...

Grimm | The Blacklist | ??? (The Slap? Allegiance? SVU/Chicago [Blank] reruns?)

Given NBC's problems elsewhere, going off the map on Fridays a la Fox last Spring should not be off the table.

Spot said...

If Laura is going to score a pity renewal, which is looking more likely now, then NBC may as well give the show some extra sampling. I'd consider it a band-aid solution since I wouldn't give Laura the post-Voice slot in 2015-2016 unless it really popped; even then the best one it'd get would be the Tuesday one so Monday could get Chicago Med.

Spot said...

Shh, don't give them any ideas.

Spot said...

How embarrassing.

Spot said...

Yikes.

Spot said...

Well, NBC disagrees with you about exposition. Yesterday the announced 2-hours special The Best of the Blinds for Wednesday 03/04/2015 instead of procedurals repeats.

So, that week there will be:
Mon 03/02/2015 - 2 hours Blind Auditions
Tue 03/03/2015 - 2 hours Blind Auditions
Wed 03/04/2015 - 2 hours clip show
Sun 03/08/2015 at 7 PM - 2 hours The Voice repeat

Out of 19 hours, there will be 8 hours of The Voice. Plus 4 hours of Dateline (Fri 9-11 Pm, Sun 9-11 PM)

Spot said...

They're doing an America's Got Talent on The Voice.

Spot said...

My thing is that I disagree with the notion of Laura getting a pity renewal, period. It is a freshman hitting ~60 Plus. Its average is still at 75 but the recent numbers have been terrible. Excluding True Calling, Spot's list of newbie reach renewals has the biggest reach at 58. Laura is dangerously close to that! It just doesn't deserve that renewal.

Spot said...

Well since when is NBC the reference for wise decisions?

(Yes I even laugh at writing this absurd idea)

Spot said...

Gotham rose in finals. Talk about a recovery! It is looking much healthier than two weeks ago now!

Spot said...

CW moved The Messengers premiere for a week later to Friday, April 17.

Which I think it's actually good for The Messengers. Look at it this way:
What is The Messengers sole chance to surviva? iZombie to bomb hard (drops to 0.3s early in its run), so CW decides it flips it with Messengers in April. And then The Messengers to do surprisingly well behind The Flash (a bit better than The 100, so 0.6 or 0.7).
I know it's practically impossible for exactly all of that to happen... but this gives iZombie one week more to drop to pull-me-now level, and thus helps Messengers cause.

Spot said...

I think it helps much Gotham is skewing male. I have no another explanation for it not only surviving double whammy Bachelor/Voice, but actually went 10% up w2w.

Spot's number says Gotham skews 56% male, but I suspect yesterday it skewed even more male.

Spot said...

Oh yes, Friday off the table should be a baseline assumption at this point. Especially because Dateline actually does quite decently on the night (excluding at 10pm) so they are never actually totally off the map.

I think Grimm would be better at 10pm though. I understand you wanting to help out the blacklist but I think taking grimm off fridays at the middle of the season sans promotion to a timeslot that isn't that much more viewed than Fridays and against strong competition (GA, Idol, TBBT | Odd Couple) would be asking too much of it and they would risk damaging one of the still viable shows they have. Season to date, my estimates (Spot may correct me if I am wrong since I am not as good at this as he is) is that Thursdays at 8 average PUT is 30 and Fridays at 9 is also 30. Add to that more competition and an in season move and I would worry about it.

Spot said...

It depends, they don't seem to care all that much about the ratings that much at the CW, they've renewed most of the shows already.

Spot said...

I also have it at 56% for the season as a whole. But even that skew is probably enough for it to remain unscathed by the voice and bachelor since those shows are so female. I will ask Son of the bronx for its skew last night anyway. I will let you know.

Spot said...

Hm.. Good way to think about it. But I really cannot imagine iZombie doing as awful as that. I think Messengers is doomed no matter what. I actually don't get why the CW is insisting on burning it off on Fridays at 9pm late Spring. I would much rather try to air it some weekday at 8 during the summer. At least the upside would be better.

Spot said...

Well with Backstrom, it seemed pretty obvious it wasn't going to do well. As for the Following, it depends on how much it falls if it does of course.

Spot said...

People clearly overreacted when it dropped below a 2.0.

Spot said...

Still, it's the way the CW that's treating this show that's baffling.

I don't think they're going to move it, they left Reign there in its slot and they really didn't care much about this show to drop in on Fridays in April, which is very late for a premiere.

Spot said...

By the way, speaking of the CW: do you think they will air more pilots? They are already casting for their pilots and I am under the impression (could be wrong though) that they only do so when they are done ordering pilots. So far they only have 4 pilots ordered plus the potential Atom thing which could air as backdoor pilot for Arrow anyway. Doesn't it seem shockingly little? They would need a shockingly high pickup ratio of all these pilots!

Spot said...

Possibly, but that's probably why they had so many early pick ups, that and a peculiar lack of confidence in any more new shows, which I assume is why they treated Messengers this way.

Spot said...

Pedowitz said CW will probably order 5-6 pilots. Everyone assumed "probably" part means "maybe 7", and not "maybe 4".
Atom spinoff of Arrow and new stab on Supernatural spinoff were both mentioned, but as ideas for season 2016-17, not already for the next season (not for fall anyway). Now I'm starting to suspect there's some backdoor pilot in works. Either that, either most of the scripts they bought in this cycle turned out to be plain awful.

Spot said...

Decide who you are, Gotham, hot or cold?

The male skewing theory seems adequate.

Spot said...

And just like that, Gotham's back! (Watch it tank next week to spite me). 2 weeks ago I was all for FOX moving to 9 and having Minority Report self start at 8. Now with Lucifer in developement and Gotham recovering, a different route is in order

Spot said...

LOL. Spot needs new color in his "who's hot, and who's not" column.
Maybe red and blue stripes.

Spot said...

Yeah, people were jumping the gun on that.

Spot said...

Well she did create The Blacklist, and Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, and soon to be Chicago please save us again!

Spot said...

When Ready To Love tanked, it was a huge deal as it completely squandered the timeslot. The Night Shift doing worse is a huge wake up call to NBC.

Spot said...

You're that unconfident over NBC's pilots next season? I mean, yeah I'm a very optimistic guy and often translates to bad news for me, but...really?

Spot said...

Grimm remaining Fridays at 8 PM while they have issues on Monday and Thursday would fall in line with the other genius NBC scheduling decisions this year. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

Spot said...

No, I'm not pessimistic about pilots. We'll see about it.
I'm pessimistic about them being able to construct meaningless schedule starting from this self-inflected train wreck.

Spot said...

And to remind ourselves not just NBC have flops this bad - The Voice still retained more of The Voice than Lone Star did of House.

Incredibly, though, it's close. We are in that sort of territory. (And with very similar raw numbers for both lead-in and lead-out!)

Spot said...

At least now we have one unknown less:
Hello, Chicago Med.

Spot said...

I don't know if NBC has the ability to admit total defeat on its 2014-2015 class of shows. It's possible for them to do so as they did with their new sitcoms from 2012-2013. But in this case, NBC has so many holes (Mondays at 10:00, Tuesdays at 9:00 and/or 9:30, Thursdays at 8:00 & 10:00, maybe an hour on Friday if they don't stick with Grimm | 2 Hour Dateline) that they could leave Wednesday alone to focus on everything else.

Spot said...

Fox confirmed Empire Season 1 Finale is going be 2 hours at Wednesday, March 18.
http://www.fox.com/content/clone-of-empire-031115-9pm

I mean this is the first time I see it being officially confirmed..

Spot said...

I hope ABC and NBC are wise to go the repeat route that night.

Spot said...

I'm pretty sure NBC procedurals are in repeats on both 3/11 and 3/18.
ABC would be wise to game same route.

Spot said...

The futon critic has NBC being all repeats and ABC showing repeats of the comedy block and then a special sound of music thing at 10pm. It also has CBS going with a two hour Survivor thing leading into Cyber - they really aren't rerunning Criminal Minds this season. CW is listed as being originals of Arrow and Supernatural.

Spot said...

On 3/11 though they have an original Black-ish airing after two repeats of The Goldbergs and a repeat of Modern Family (all leading into an American Crime encore). They are calling it a special presentation, whatever that may be I hope it is a mistake or that ABC changes its mind, otherwise it will be horrible to watch. They should save that day in which Blackish will have to air sans MF for a post Empire week, not the week before its freaking finale!

Spot said...

No surprise there as NBC adds another scripted flop to this season.

Well, it's not necessarily an original. Take note of the title "bloopish". So, it's nothing more than a cheap special of outtakes from the show.

So really, there's nothing to worry about.

Spot said...

Oh I hadn't seen it! Thanks! Then I don't mind yes ;)

One thing to keep in mind for that spackle argument: Repeat After Me. It needs to hold well moving forward but if it manages to settle at a level closer to the one that could be expected of FOTB if is called in quickly to the regular season to plug a hole after a hiatus between seasons while doing so at a fraction of the cost, the blooper show would already be ready to be used for that duty.

Come to think, the guy responsible for awful ABC schedules moved to NBC few years ago.

That was nice coup for Paul Lee, he got rid of Jeff Bader and his salary, while NBC brass actually thought they're gaining.

It's strange that it happened a few years ago and not last May. ABC seems like a completely different network scheduling ever since the upfronts. Last year and two years ago I hated Paul Lee as much as you hate Bob this year and that is really saying something. I never though he would do enough to make me appreciate him but he has.

By the way I had no idea that Mitch Metcalf from showbuzzdaily is a previous scheduling executive from NBC! I always thought he was a reporter.

Well in that case, they can go for 22, but give it a Mike and Molly role if a Tuesday, Wednesday, or (maybe) Friday comedy bombs.

So I've asked Son of the Bronx and he was kind enough to provide me with the numbers. Gotham did skew more male than the average last night but not significantly. It had a 57.4% male skew. Also interesting is Scorpion, which has been skewing more male lately. Since it has been going in the male direction while Sleepy Hollow has been going in the female one, they had effectively the same gender skew last night, both at 54%!

I'm not surprised NBC took on a reject.

it says so on his biography, though.

I also heard that ABC got someone from CBS.

Spot said...

Has Chicago ever saved them? lol

Then I probably mixed up years, and their problem not being Bader, but opposite: ABC not finding replacement for Bader in time, so Paul Lee did do-it-yourself schedules in the meantime. I mean, either way he's coach, his word is final. But that would mean he was both coach and offensive coordinator for some time... and its' alreday bad enough he's a coach.

It's a matter of perspective. They always land in the top 5 weekly scripted shows of the week, most weeks top 3.

Top 5 among NBC's shows?

I was thinking that Parks doesn't appeal to the Voice crowd since it's nerdy bullshit. I think I was right with 1.5, unless The Voice didn't run-over.

Spot said...

Ack, late. But renew.
