Spotted Ratings, Monday 10/31/11: Scary Moving

WHAT MATTERS:
  • At some point down the line, I'll take a look at the Halloween viewing level effect. Fox Research says viewing was down 13% at 8:00 from last week, but the Halloween drop was generally smaller last season. However much it was overall, it certainly helped contribute to a down evening on broadcast.
  • And Fox is probably smart to note this because their lineup was the one that really got massacred. It was not a good start for their weeklong "How well did our lineup recover from baseball preemptions?" tour. Terra Nova moved into what's gotta be pretty troublesome territory, while House tied its series low from all the way back on 12/28/04.
  • Also let the "Dancing with the Stars is way down" and "Two and a Half Men won't stop dropping" memes recommence, with DWTS hitting a new performance low and Two and a Half Men taking another double-digit drop despite the rest of the CBS evening holding relatively well. This could be the first time this season How I Met Your Mother Truly beats Two and a Half Men. (Maybe ever if I'd come up with this thing five years ago!) And ABC got what I'm pretty sure is best-DWTS-retention-ever out of Castle.
  • I thought Free Agents should've been first to go (over The Playboy Club) because of replaceability. NBC's proving that notion right. While freakin' Whitney encores have done better than Free Agents on Wednesday at 8:30, NBC's premiere of newsmagazine Rock Center will mark the fourth straight week since Playboy's ouster that they've failed to even match its pathetic 1.2 final airing on Monday at 10/9c.
