2012 Summer Matchups, Tuesday

Originals are in bold; new shows are in ALL CAPS; "Average" is Live + SD A18-49 average from this season to date if already ongoing, from summer 2011 or, if neither of those are applicable, from most recent non-summer season

More Summer Matchups: Thursday | Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday

CBSNCIS (R)
NBC America's Got Talent (R)

Fox Hell's Kitchen6/52.64
CW THE CATALINA5/29NEW

ABC Fam Pretty Little Liars 6/50.97

With just two original hours on a ten-hour schedule, I'm sure the CW has some good reason for throwing one of those hours up against what will likely be ABC Family's biggest hour of the whole week. I'm just not sure what it is...

ABC TRUST US WITH YOUR LIFE 7/10NEW
CBS NCIS: Los Angeles (R)

NBC America's Got Talent ongoing3.37 to date

CW The LA Complex (R)

Discovery Deadliest Catchongoing1.30 to date
TNT Rizzoli & Isles 6/51.23
USA White Collar7/101.22
ABC Fam Jane By Design 6/50.49

Based on the way it premiered back in 2010, TNT could've hoped that Rizzoli & Isles would become its next huge Closer-at-its-peak-sized hit. That hasn't really materialized, but it's still done legitimately well enough to not only anchor Tuesday but also be its network's first premiere of an original-heavy summer.

Net 10:00 10:30Premieres Average
ABC NY MED 7/10NEW
CBS 48 Hours Mystery (R)

NBC Love in the Wild6/51.63

MTV Teen Mom 6/121.92

USA Covert Affairs 7/101.23
TNT Franklin & Bash6/50.85
TV Land Retired at 35 repeats6/260.33

This looks like a pretty close race among several different parties. The one thing we can say for sure is that the slot's winner will be an unscripted program. EDIT: Thanks to SitcomsOnline for the info on ABC's shuffle, as their newest installment in the medical documentary genre NY Med gets the Tuesday slot and previously scheduled Final Witness goes to Wednesday.

There are two reasons that I could think of for The CW picking Tuesday to air a new show:

1. The only original programming on the Big Four is Fox's Hell's Kitchen, so there's "less competition." Monday has AGT, The Bachelorette, and Gordon Ramsey Night while Wednesday will have Big Brother, and SYTYCD.
2. Tuesday is a more valuable night for advertiser money (for example: summer movies that are opening on a Wednesday).

And The CW still has Oh, Sit! and The Star Next Door to premiere too, though I'd bet that these shows take over the slots of The Catalina and Breaking Pointe.
