First Two Weeks, Best Friends Forever

BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (NBC)

WEEK ONE
NBC's Best Friends Forever was dead on arrival. It averaged just a 1.2 demo despite lead-in Off Their Rockers starting off OK at 8/7c with a 1.8. Thanks to Bent (1.0) and The Paul Reiser Show (1.1), this won't go down as even one of the two worst sitcom premieres in NBC history, but it may as well, because those shows both had much worse lead-ins on premiere night. Any kind of future would take a week two miracle.

WEEK TWO
The week two miracle was not in the offing, as the poor instead got much poorer. BFFs dropped 25% to a 0.9 demo and is now barely holding half of its Off Their Rockers lead-in; it dropped much less, to a 1.6, in week two.

PROGNOSIS
Despite being an epic disaster, Bent was allowed to air its entire run mostly because it was only three weeks, but also perhaps because a replacement like Rock Center or an SVU repeat might not even do better. In this case, stuff can do better. I'm almost 100% sure a Whitney repeat or an Off Their Rockers encore could do better than a 0.9 with a 1.6 lead-in. I think it probably gets one more week as NBC sees if Off Their Rockers can stabilize. If there's no big change, I wouldn't be surprised to see this one not finish its six-episode order. For sure, no season two.

"First Two Weeks" is my look at... the first two weeks of a new scripted broadcast show's ratings. I also line all of these numbers up to do an objective analysis in what I call "the system."
