Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 11/12/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  •  Episode seven finally saw the bleeding stop for newbie Sleepy Hollow, but not so much for Agents of SHIELD, down again and taking its largest week-to-week decline since episode three. But ABC's comedy block continues to operate on a seemingly different plane, as The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife went back up.
  • Chicago Fire had a decent return from a couple weeks off, edging its last original even though lead-in The Voice was nearly a point weaker than it was back then.
  • Fox was down a couple ticks on average with the comedy block. And the CW was up a couple ticks on average with The Originals and Supernatural.

I still don't think Dracula is totally dead yet. Hannibal was renewed at 70% of NBC's drama average by then and Dracula currently sits at the same 70% if you add in a 25% Friday factor which I think is reasonable to do. I think it could go either way and we won't be able to tell until the end. I am a zero buyer on critical acclaim mattering to a show's renewal too, so I don't buy a difference there.

As for Grimm, I think the year to year drops are being a bit exaggerated because last year it came from a much better situation after all that nice Olympics exposure that had people following it to Fridays for the remainder of fall. It is right where it was last Spring and that is the normal for shows, to come back more or less where they were in spring.

Yeah. Stripped syndication still works on the same basis, and always will. Where I'm diverging is the thought that serials in particular will fare better with online syndication, and that in turn will be strengthened more by a planned series finale than by happening to have 88 episodes.

I agree that TGW is more valuable than ratings imply, and at least we finally have a proper justification for this now. I see it going to the 10pm death slot, although I'd say that CBS Sundays are still up in the air because it's genuinely possible 60 Minutes doesn't survive the Benghazi episode fallout. All bets are off if that happened.
