The Breakdown: The CW Tuesday in 2015-16 (The Flash, iZombie, Containment)

It's time for a journey through the CW Tuesday schedule in 2015-16...

fall

Year8:008:309:009:30Avg
2014-15The FlashSupernatural74
9156
2015-16The FlashiZombie68 (-8%)
97 (+6%)39 (-31%)
VsAvg+82%+7%+52%
Rank1/103/102/10

Though it couldn't get back to the heights of the series premiere, overall The Flash was amazingly able to post an even better fall than it did in season one. But poor-retaining iZombie made it a down year-to-year fall.

winter

Year8:008:309:009:30Avg
2014-15The FlashSupernatural65

2015-16The FlashiZombie67 (+3%)
98 (+18%)36 (-25%)
VsAvg+122%+16%+78%
Rank1/104/101/10

The winter was truly stellar for The Flash, as it continued on its blazing fall pace and no longer had to get compared with season one's huge early episodes. iZombie narrowly reduced its own declines at 9/8c, so this portion of the CW Tuesday year was able to eke out year-to-year growth.

spring

Year8:008:309:009:30Avg
2014-15The FlashiZombie60

2015-16The FlashContainment61 (+0%)
87 (+6%)34 (-12%)
VsAvg+111%+19%+73%
Rank1/104/101/10

The growth slowed down for The Flash in last portion of the season, as it took more of a typical post-DST dip after having held up staggeringly well in the spring last year. Containment pretty much continued the iZombie tradition ratings-wise.

The Flash: This is one of those situations where just looking at the trend would suggest like a B+, but the context matters. Going +9% vs. what was already the best season in the history of the network qualifies for a Grade: A.

iZombie: Still hard to figure out what to make of this show. Seems like it should get a worse grade than the trend would indicate, since its lead-in improved a good bit. On the other hand, it was completely lead-in independent! So I'm just gonna throw out the lead-in factor and go with what the trend would indicate, which is roughly a Grade: C+.

Containment: Score one for the retentionistas, as Containment got the axe over several shows that were pulling lower raw numbers at the time. (Though to be fair, most of those shows had already been in the clubhouse with renewals for awhile.) Still not so sure they shouldn't have waited to see what happened in the summer eps, but I guess there was simply no room either way.

The names in this last table link to the shows' War of 18-49 pages. Links with an asterisk(*) have been updated with the new info. Updates to younger shows will come later in the summer.

Check back tomorrow for this day's new Schedules Plus! Till then, you can refer to the old version.
