WHAT MATTERS:

• After its breakthrough season two premiere, The Magicians (0.37) took a 29% drop in week two. A drop of that size is never a good thing, but 0.37 still puts it at the high end of its season one ratings.

Cablemetrics: Doctor Who, The Bastard Executioner, Switched at Birth, The Haves and the Have Nots

WHAT MATTERS:

• The only new entry this week is the veteran British import Doctor Who (0.87), which continued to show year-to-year growth for BBC America. Being up another 2% from last year's premiere is pretty impressive considering the year-ago premiere was introducing a new Doctor. If last year was any indication, this show won't stay in the cable upper echelon; the 2014 season shed half of that 0.85 premiere in the next two weeks. But maybe this season can hold up better since there shouldn't be as much "new Doctor" inflation in week one?

Cablemetrics: Fear the Walking Dead, The Strain, Public Morals, Switched at Birth

WHAT MATTERS:

• Plenty has already been said about the huge debut of Fear the Walking Dead (4.93), which enters this table at well over four times the next biggest show. There are definitely a lot of different ways of looking at this. If it were a The Walking Dead episode, it would be just the forty-seventh biggest episode of that series. But if it were a broadcast drama episode, it would be the ninth-biggest one of those in the last four-plus years! (Trailing only six Empires and two Super Bowl lead-outs.) The bottom line is that it's OK to be a tad underwhelmed by this 4.93 in the context of The Walking Dead's history, but TWD is such an incredible anomaly that it will still be unbelievably enormous in any other context.

WHAT MATTERS:

• NBC introduced its final new The Voice lead-out of the season, singing game show The Winner Is, which rated just a bit below recent Revolution episodes. It gets another try next week and then looks to fend for itself on Thursdays later in the summer.

• ABC's Mistresses began its effort to come back from last week's disappointing premiere by surprisingly growing a couple ticks in week two, to a level ABC could potentially live with... if it stays here.
