After an eight-year run on Sunday, ABC moved American Idol to Monday in 2026 and limited it to only the one night. While it couldn't match last year's stellar Sunday results, it was a noticeable upgrade on last year's The Bachelor. At 10/9c, Idol reunited with longtime Sunday lead-out The Rookie, which cleared out of the Tuesday crime drama night to make room for newbie RJ Decker. Rookie was back to the same 80ish Plus it's been turning in for most of its run (at least while in 10/9c slots).

The Idol main night was slightly stronger than last year's results night, but still weaker than last year's main night.

American Idol Mon: A noticeable drop from last year, and it kinda got overshadowed in a season when a couple other reality tentpoles had gigahit cycles. However, this was still pretty much in line with most of the show's ABC history, and on its new night it didn't get the big Sunday afternoon NBA lead-ins that often lift the network in the spring. Grade: C+.
The Rookie: For all that these two shows have aired together historically, Idol is still probably a less compatible lead-in than High Potential was on Tuesday last year. It was stronger throughout its run on Tuesday, but getting back to its usual Sunday levels is nothing to be surprised or alarmed about. Grade: C+.
