ABC hopped back on The Bachelor roller coaster in the winter, with the franchise giving back nearly all of last year's big gains. And the network used its hit-level Monday reality lead-ins to give exposure to Hulu originals.

The network got better news in the spring as American Idol surged big-time, posting the best season in Plus of its ABC run.

The Bachelor: This is the ninth time in the last 10 Bachelor seasons that it has had a double-digit year-to-year change, either up or down. It didn't go quite as low as the last down season two years ago, and it also had a pretty good finale spike unlike in 2023. The trends really look bad because of terrible data points in the last two weeks before the finale. Perhaps this is more in C- territory but I'm a little kinder in light of how much weaker The Golden Bachelorette was in the fall. Grade: C.
American Idol: Idol was the opposite of Bachelor, getting back everything that was lost last season, plus a little extra. The trends were a hair worse on Sunday but still very good, setting a new ABC record for the show in Plus. It also had uncommonly great momentum as the season went on; some early points were actually pretty worrying but the back half of the season was often up in raw numbers. This has been an ongoing trend with the late-season afternoon NBA lead-ins but it really ratcheted up this year. Grade: A.
