With scripted originals back on the fall schedule, CBS put together some big gains in that portion of the season. New comedy Poppa's House was a great fit with The Neighborhood from the start, while new spin-off NCIS: Origins pretty consistently looked similar to (if not a little worse than) previous occupant Hawai'i.

The lineup had a bit of a winter bounce but trailed last year's ratings, which was when these shows were premiering in the strike-shortened 2023-24 season.

The Poppa's House retention remained quite good to the end, but it wasn't enough to save it.

The Neighborhood: This banner of consistency remained consistent, now having six of its seven seasons rated between 115 and 121. I'm inclined to be a teeny bit harsher to scripted shows since they got to air in the fall again this year, but as I said last year, I kinda doubt it was really a benefit on Monday, since it meant having a bunch of episodes against the NFL on ABC. Grade: B.

Poppa's House: It's not like Bob Hearts Abishola was some gold standard, but it's still kinda crazy that this show had better Plus and better retention than any of the five Abishola seasons, and yet was an unceremonious one-and-done. My best guess is that CBS saw its audience as somewhat attached at the hip to The Neighborhood's. If that show had another five years left, maybe this would be a long-term companion, but since it's ending next season, CBS wants to swing bigger and look for a new anchor to build around. New single-cam DMV will certainly be a different direction. Grade: B+.

NCIS: Steady just like The Neighborhood, back to airing in the fall but also up against the NFL. Grade: B.

NCIS: Origins: It was about on par with season one of Hawai'i, possibly a teeny bit stronger than season two, and a bit behind what Hawai'i did last year. All in all, Origins just kept this timeslot chugging along at the same general level. Grade: B-.
