It's time for a journey through the NBC Tuesday schedule in 2024-25...

NBC got a pleasantly surprising early pop from new comedy St. Denis Medical. While it couldn't compete with the megahit-level sampling for revivals like Will & Grace and Night Court, its 0.51/0.45 premiere (161/142 Plus) was nothing to sneeze at. The show took a major week two drop but hung around the league average for the rest of its fall airings. Meanwhile, The Irrational looked like the weaker of NBC's two new dramas last fall and backed it up in a move to Tuesday, lagging significantly behind season one of Found.

In its second season as respectable reality filler, Deal Or No Deal Island helped the network rebound from last winter's ratings. The comedies looked kinda shaky in January but bounced back enough in February to grow compared with last year's duo. With its The Voice lead-in gone, The Irrational sank deep into flop territory, getting cancelled after two seasons.

The spring window is only picking up the last three weeks of DONDI and The Irrational, and the network mostly went with repeats in those two hours over the last two months of the season. The comedies aired much deeper into the spring and took a post-DST hit. The y2y numbers are a bit misleading since Lopez is not broken out by half-hour; St. Denis was only +8% vs. the 8/7c Lopez episodes (72) and Night Court was actually +4% vs. the 8:30 ones (60).

St. Denis Medical: Once the dust settled, this spiritual successor to Superstore ended up a bit stronger than last year's middling anchors, and a bit weaker than the meat of Superstore's run. A very close comparison among recent occupants is season one of Young Rock, which aired in this hour four years ago, but I'd think this was a bigger success relative to expectations. Not a breakout, but a positive outcome for a new comedy in 2025. However, it may be up against scheduling difficulties going forward, since the NBA is encroaching on its Tuesday home. Grade: B+.

Night Court: I've made the Will & Grace revival comparisons with this show since the start, and the similarities basically followed through to the end, as both got the axe after their third seasons. This one showed a bit more life amidst the early St. Denis heat, but by the end this show and W&G were both settled around the 60 Plus range. Last year it aired at 8/7c and didn't have to go deep into the spring, so I don't think -16% is really that bad, but there's no need to keep it around when the upside is gone and it's a challenge even to find a slot for St. DenisGrade: C.

The Voice Tue Fall: Already updated.

The Irrational: I maybe should go harsher than this but I just feel like it was pretty predictable, since it was already down to a 50 Plus when it lost The Voice at the very end of its first season. And even at these levels you could argue it's still stronger than The Hunting Party... Grade: D+.
