The Breakdown: Fox Tuesday in 2022-23 (The Resident, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Accused and more!)

It's time for a journey through the Fox Tuesday schedule in 2022-23...

A year after Lee Daniels' Our Kind of People went one and done in the Tuesday 9/8c hour, things got even worse with the long-delayed country music drama Monarch. Coupled with a relatively soft final season of The Resident, Fox went for double digit declines in the fall.

Help was on the way after the new year, with 9-1-1: Lone Star moving to the night and leading into anthology drama Accused. Two days after its post-football premiere, Accused had a solid start on Tuesday (0.45 or 106 Plus) but it was into flop territory for good three weeks later.

Lone Star was enough to carry Fox to more year-to-year growth in the spring, but by this period Accused had generally fallen to 50%ish retention.

The Resident: For a show that had a consistently decent run, this was definitely a step down at the end. It doesn't look like that much of a decline, but it's a bit worse than it appears because it had a short season and only aired in the fall and January. Grade: C.

9-1-1: Lone Star: This was a fairly similar Plus decline to the previous two seasons. Considering it moved to a new night away from the orbit of the mothership, that's not too bad. It's obviously not on 9-1-1's level, but it now becomes the crown jewel of the Fox drama department. Grade: C+.

Monarch: Definitely one of the biggest bombs of the season, and significantly worse than last year's Our Kind of People, but probably not quite as bad as last year's The Big Leap (which did a similar Plus with big hit-sized lead-ins). Grade: D-.

Accused: Like Alert on Monday, a pretty shaky Fox newbie that managed to eke out a renewal. I would probably even make the argument this was weaker than Alert, especially considering it had a good lead-in. Its spring numbers were worse than anything Alert did, and even in the late winter (when Alert finished its season) they were doing similar numbers. Grade: C-.
