Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 8/6/19

FINALS UPDATE: Bachelor in Paradise (1.1) and America's Got Talent (1.5) adjusted up while Bless This Mess (R) (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Bachelor in Paradise (1.1/1.0) was weaker in its first Tuesday episode, but still had about the same raw numbers as the early Tuesday episodes last season.
  • Facing Paradise instead of last week's The Bachelorette finale and a presidential debate, America's Got Talent (1.3/1.6) and Bring the Funny (0.9) both rebounded by multiple tenths.
  • Elsewhere, First Responders Live (0.4) moved to Tuesday, handing its Wednesday slot off to BH90210. CBS was even with Love Island (0.4) and Blood and Treasure (0.3) as was the CW with Pandora (0.1) and the season finale of The 100 (0.2).

FINALS UPDATE: Holey Moley (R) (0.5) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • After just missing out on a 2.0 for night one of the season finale, The Bachelorette (2.0/2.1) got there on night two. The huge lead-in went to a repeat of Holey Moley (0.6) at 10/9c.
  • Meanwhile, Bachelorette completely demolished the network that usually has a Tuesday monopoly, as NBC's America's Got Talent (1.2/1.3) was down nearly a half point from last week and lead-out Bring the Funny (0.7) dropped by 0.2. CBS originals Love Island (0.4) and Blood and Treasure (0.3) were even, as were the CW dramas (0.1/0.2).

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (1.7) adjusted up while Modern Family (R) (0.4) and Black-ish (R) (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • NBC's America's Got Talent (1.6/1.7) had an up night, while lead-out Bring the Funny remained at 0.9 in week three. On CBS, a down week for Love Island (0.4) continued to Tuesday, while Blood and Treasure dropped back to 0.3 in its return to 10/9c.

FINALS UPDATE: Blood and Treasure (0.4) adjusted up while The Goldbergs (R) (0.4) and Bring the Funny (0.9) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Week two of Bring the Funny (1.0) fell by two tenths after a steady America's Got Talent lead-in (1.5), putting it in line with week two of Songland which also scored a 1.0.
  • Though it was free from The Bachelorette competition, there was no Tuesday rebound for Love Island (0.5), while Blood and Treasure (0.3) failed to improve in a move to 9/8c.
  • The CW found little interest in new drama Pandora (0.1) at 8/7c; its lead-out The 100 (0.2) improved on Pandora in the demo, even while dropping by 150,000 total viewers.

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (1.5) and MLB All-Star Game (1.9, +0.2) adjusted up while American Housewife (R) (0.3) and The Goldbergs (R) (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Two months after the Paradise Hotel debacle on Fox, another love-themed reality series expected to chew up a lot of hours had a similarly rough start. CBS' Love Island (0.6/0.5) looks to have just barely outrated the May Paradise Hotel (0.5) premiere.
  • NBC had much more promising news with its own reality premiere, Bring the Funny (1.2) at 10/9c after America's Got Talent (1.4). At least preliminarily, it actually managed to top the Songland premiere six weeks ago (1.1), even though Talent was three tenths higher on that night.
  • Fox topped the night with the MLB All-Star Game (1.6/1.7/1.6), though it was down 20%ish from last year's 2.1.

FINALS UPDATE: Press Your Luck (0.7) and The Flash (R) (0.1) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Driven off of Monday for a week by the NBA Finals, The Bachelorette (1.3/1.2) made things more crowded on Tuesday. It led into a preview of the network's latest game show revival Press Your Luck (0.8), which will make its regular timeslot debut tonight.
  • Against stronger ABC competition, NBC was down again but still on top with America's Got Talent (1.5) and Songland (0.9). CBS' Blood and Treasure fell to its first 0.4, and its lead-in crime drama repeats (0.4/0.4) were also down.

FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Week two for NBC's lineup saw a week-to-week decline for both America's Got Talent (1.6) and Songland (1.0). Both would be down a tenth if finals hold.
  • Elsewhere on the night: the two-hour finale of MasterChef Junior (0.7/0.8) and a steady week three for CBS' Blood and Treasure (0.5).

FINALS UPDATE: Movie: The Lion King (R) (0.8), 1969 (0.5), NCIS (R) (0.6), NCIS (R) (0.5), Songland (1.1), MasterChef Junior (R) (0.5) and The Flash (R) (0.1) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • NBC launched its biggest guns of the summer with America's Got Talent (1.6/1.7) leading into reality newbie Songland (1.2) at 10/9c. For Talent, it was a substantial year-to-year drop vs. last year's 2.5 premiere, and came up a bit shy of the spin-off AGT: The Champions' 1.8 premiere back in the winter.
    • Songland wasn't nearly as impressive as the huge World of Dance premiere from two years ago, but was still among the better post-Talent launches historically; probably the closest comparison would be Better Late Than Never (which got a 1.6 following a 2.4 Talent in late summer 2016).
  • Fox was on the upswing with MasterChef Junior (0.8) leading into a Junior recap special (0.6). Week two of CBS' Blood and Treasure (0.5) managed to match the show's average in the 10/9c hour last week (and was down a tenth from the two-hour average). And ABC fared well with theatrical The Lion King (0.9) boosting 1969 (0.6) to a series high.

FINALS UPDATE: 1969 (0.3) and Mental Samurai (0.4) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • With a lead-in from The Village (0.6), the two-hour season finale of The Voice (1.0/1.1) picked up little to no ground from last week, and was down about 30% from the year-ago spring finale.
  • It was NCIS (1.2), not Voice, that was the top program on the last Tuesday of the season, and it was used as a lead-in for the two-hour premiere of summer drama Blood and Treasure (0.6). B&T at least so far is probably looking a little better than Salvation, CBS' last effort in the summer drama realm. (It premiered to a 0.7 after Big Brother two years ago, and never got higher than 0.4 all of last season.)
  • On finale night, ABC saw a decrease for American Housewife (0.7) but an increase for Black-ish (0.7) and 1969 (0.4). Fox's unscripted (0.8/0.5) was up, while the CW's The 100 fell to its first 0.2 of the season as The Flash (0.2) went into repeats.
