The Breakdown: CW Tuesday in 2021-22 (The Flash, Superman and Lois, Naomi and more!)

It's time for a journey through the CW Tuesday schedule in 2021-22...

After Stargirl and Supergirl wrapped up their late summer seasons in the first half of the fall, The Flash and Riverdale returned for a strange pairing starting in mid-November, where we saw the sad reality that both shows remain on a speedy decline.

The news was better for the netlet in the winter, as Superman and Lois returned at 8/7c and basically didn't miss a beat relative to Flash's late fall ratings. New drama Naomi didn't do much at 9/8c, but it was a stronger performer than 4400 had been on Monday.

After persisting in the mid-0.1's for awhile, Naomi plunged to the low-0.1s for most of its spring run, sealing its fate on a network that suddenly had higher standards again.

The Flash: The biggest chunk of the damage to this show was done in the previous season, and the Wednesday move later in the season didn't seem to help. But this is pretty much just another CW show at this point, which is a sad state of affairs considering its proud history. Grade: C-.

Superman and Lois: As the rest of the superhero empire has pretty much faded away, it was the young gun Superman and Lois that held up best of the bunch, maintaining its rookie season Plus. It's basically the standard bearer for that brand now. Grade: B.

Riverdale: Getting sent to Sunday probably exaggerated the decline beyond what it "should" have been, but even on Sunday it was down massively from the year-ago occupants. And a big chunk of the last season got carried over to late summer/fall 2021, which should've made these comparisons better. Overall, it's just an embarrassing way for this once potent force to be going down. Grade: D.

Naomi: Still another entry in the "it did poorly, but another new drama on its network did even worse" series. 4400 and Naomi had the two best lead-ins on the network, which were pretty close to the same size, and Naomi was generally a couple hundredths or so better, retaining 50%ish of Superman & Lois. Was that enough for renewal? In a typical CW season, probably so, since basically everything got renewed every year for awhile there. But it seems like the network is back to a more "normal" standard right now, and it didn't pass that test. Grade: D+.
