WHAT MATTERS:
- HBO will have to wait longer than usual for its Game of Thrones return, which would usually come about this time of year. But the network got some good news on a much smaller scale as the return of acclaimed drama The Leftovers (0.39) was up by six hundredths from its last premiere back in October 2015.

WHAT MATTERS:
- OWN's summer success Greenleaf returned in the spring, and the result was a new series low 0.48 and 43% behind its June 2016 series premiere (though that's still near the top of scripted cable this week).

WHAT MATTERS:
- AMC shot back to the top of the charts with Sunday's return of The Walking Dead (5.72), which beat out all but the first couple episodes of the fall run. It was 15% behind the year-ago spring premiere, which is an improvement on the show's trends at the end of the fall (-25%ish in the last three weeks).

WHAT MATTERS:
- The NBA Finals obviously dominated June 17, though it ended up being the lowest-rated game of the five-game series. The closing hours of golf's US Open hung in there pretty decently despite no Tiger Woods, getting as high as a 3.1 demo in the 10:00 half-hour.
- HBO's True Blood (2.6 on June 17, 2.6 on June 24) remained in charge of cable, more than a point ahead of any other options. On June 24, HBO launched The Newsroom (1.0), which took a big dip from True Blood, but at least the dip was a lot less big than HBO's recent comedy efforts in the slot (including June 17's finale of Girls (0.5)).
- TNT brought back Falling Skies (1.5 on June 17), down by about a quarter year-to-year against the Finals. It held up a little better year-to-year in week two (1.3) and is thus far in a virtual dead heat with Dallas for top demo on TNT.
- Other cable tidbits: Lifetime's The Client List (1.0) signed off on June 17 as one of the few shows to pick up steam against the NBA Finals. But AMC's The Killing (0.5) did not get a big finale spike as it did in season one. Won't get fooled again, I guess. A&E's The Glades (0.6, 0.7) and Longmire (0.7, 0.7) both seem to have settled in.
WHAT MATTERS:
- Summer originals are finally starting to fire up, starting with ABC's relatively disappointing returns of Secret Millionaire and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. Secret Millionaire barely managed half of the average of its last run back in spring 2011, while Weight Loss Edition was nearly 40% behind its post-Bachelorette premiere last summer and four tenths behind season one's lowest point. This lineup got about the same numbers as Thursday's Duets and Rookie Blue lineup.
- Broadcast was topped by a Family Guy repeat and the Miss USA pageant. Two cable offerings did noticeably better, starting with Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on ESPN (11.068m, 4.9 A18-49), the highest-rated NBA game in cable history. HBO also beat broadcast's shows with the finale of Game of Thrones (2.2), plus they had another new high from Girls (0.6).
- Elsewhere on cable were the premieres of A&E's The Glades (0.9, tying its previous two premieres) and Longmire (0.8). Lifetime brought back Drop Dead Diva (0.8) down a couple ticks year-to-year. A preview of Teen Wolf (0.8) was down a tick from the year-ago preview, but its lead-in The MTV Movie Awards (1.4) was down much more sharply.
