A18-49+ Update: The League Average Decline in 2015-16

One thing I wanted to make note of is the 2015-16 season's rather awful league average decline. This is really an epilogue to the new shows post from last week, but it gets its own post because that one was rather long anyway. The league average is the number around which A18-49+ is based, and the average of all original non-sports series 18-49 ratings on the big four networks during the regular season. In 2015-16, it finished at 1.46, down over 13% from last season. This was the biggest year-to-year decline in the entire 15-year era, more than a full point ahead of the decline during the 2007-08 writers' strike and at least 2.5 points ahead of the previous few years. It would be hard to deny that this is bad, but allow me to offer up a slightly bigger-picture way of looking at it.
