It's time for a journey through the ABC Sunday schedule in 2024-25...

Dedicating most of the season to Wonderful World of Disney movies again, ABC Sunday saw significant declines. They were somewhat weaker throughout the fall; most of them were in the 50s and 60s, while quite a few more last year broke 70. But a lot of this decline can be chalked up to the huge dip from the Christmas week movie: 88 for The Santa Clause this year vs. a whooping 171 for Home Alone on Christmas Eve last year.

ABC tweaked the Idol return date so that movies became the most frequent occupant again, like two years ago. Idol didn't return till a post-Oscars episode on March 2, putting its first regular episode (March 9) three weeks later than last year.

Once it was finally back, Idol had a stellar run, matching last year in raw numbers and actually growing a touch in the Monday episodes. However, The $100,000 Pyramid actually made things even worse in the 10/9c hour, making it three straight years of struggles since The Rookie left the night.

America's Funniest Home Videos: The huge gap between the fall ratings and the NBA/Idol-boosted spring ratings has been a thing for several years now, but it got even more out of hand than usual here. The fall average (83) was the lowest for AFV in nearly a decade, but double-digit growth in the winter/spring (140) was enough to pull the season into the green. The fall is probably the better indicator of true strength but it still gets some credit for capitalizing on its surroundings. Grade: B-.
