The Breakdown: CBS Sunday in 2024-25 (60 Minutes, Tracker, The Equalizer and more!)

It's time for a journey through the CBS Sunday schedule in 2024-25...

Coming off a breakout rookie season, Tracker got its first look at the NFL-inflated 60 Minutes lead-ins, and it was immediately an even stronger option than The Equalizer had been in those spots. The Equalizer, meanwhile, became just another modest CBS Sunday player, both here and especially in its move to 10/9c after the new year.

Tracker had a strong but unspectacular start to its run as the without-NFL anchor, only matching its early season one ratings and not beating last year's The Equalizer by that much. However, the network had much bigger problems later in the night, as new medical drama Watson took the 9/8c hour all the way back down to earth, and The Equalizer struggled at 10/9c.

Tracker heated up big-time in the spring, hitting some 0.6's after sports-infused lead-ins and even a bunch of 0.5's on normal nights. Watson picked up a bit as well, but remained massively down vs. last year's Tracker.

60 Minutes: After a few years of steadiness, this was a big bounce, but it's all thanks to the fall NFL lead-ins, throwing the show over a 400 Plus for the first time in the Plus era (and then again a couple more times). The post-New Year average remained steady (149-148-148 the last three years). Grade: B+.

Tracker: I might've been in the B+ area if it had ended before the spring window, as the post-NFL performance and winter ratings were very good but not quite as earth-shattering as season one had promised. However, it finished so strongly that it's a pretty easy Grade: A. Highest Plus for a broadcast scripted show since This Is Us signed off three years ago.

Watson: CBS saw fit to give this show an early renewal, but it's honestly tough to make the case that it was any stronger than the one-and-done newbie in the hour two years ago, East New York. Perhaps they didn't want the PR that would come with cancelling the AFC Championship lead-out, but at least they're getting it away from that Tracker lead-in. It'll give Monday at 10/9c after FBI a shot next year, facing another modest-rated sophomore medical drama on NBC. Grade: C-.

The Equalizer: After four remarkably consistent seasons, it all came crashing down hard and fast for The Equalizer. It's got excuses, as it moved two hours later and had a weak Watson lead-in, but it's still disappointing to see the show simply blend in with other middling performers that got this hour historically, from CSI: Vegas to the late-stage NCIS spin-offs. Grade: C-.
