In its first year after losing SmackDown! to USA Network, Fox went with sports throughout the season on Friday. The Friday college football games in the fall were competitive with the SmackDown! ratings (especially if you look farther back than the sky-high WWE numbers from last year), but the gap widened significantly with basketball in the winter and got pretty ugly with the UFL in the spring.
