The Fall 2015 Preview/Review, Sunday

Welcome to The Fall Preview/Review, a look at how each broadcast network fared on each night of the schedule in 2014-15. These are basically the Schedules Plus Updates from last year, except now arranged by day of the week and with a teeny bit more focus on what's to come in fall 2015. 2014-15 year-to-year changes are in parentheses, while "VsAvg" compares 2014-15 to the full historical average and "Rank" ranks 2014-15 against all available previous occupants. Each network name links back to its now updated Schedules Plus post for this day of the week.

2015-16 Once Upon a Time BLOOD AND OILQUANTICO

One of the biggest surprises in the fall was just how heavily the use of Frozen characters boosted the early weeks of Once Upon a Time. After a significantly down second half, it ended up very close to even in raw numbers. Despite Once's fall boom, sophomore Resurrection completely melted down, but the network was still up in the last two hours since even those bad numbers crushed last year's Betrayal ratings. (And 9/8c midseason entry Secrets and Lies (89) also did well.) Still, Resurrection and Revenge were among the weakest links on the network, so they were both axed in favor of new dramas.

2015-16 Madam Secretary The Good WifeCSI: Cyber

Madam Secretary and The Good Wife showed some flashes of promise in the fall when they had NFL-boosted 60 Minutes lead-ins, but the whole lineup fell apart in the second half of the season. CSI became yet another veteran drama to drop almost exactly a third in the move to Sunday 10/9c Siberia. Marginal sophomore CSI: Cyber gets that "honor" for the fall, with CSI lead Ted Danson joining the cast.

Football will get huge ratings! At midseason, A.D. The Bible Continues (63) and American Odyssey (32) were big disappointments. We're currently not sure what goes there after football this year.

2015-16 The Simpsons Brooklyn Nine-Nine Family Guy The Last Man on Earth

Fox's Sunday comedies got off to a roaring start, with Brooklyn Nine-Nine fitting right in and Family Guy debuting with an enormous crossover with The Simpsons. But the animated anchors were generally down in Plus when they didn't have NFL help, and Mulaney was an abject disaster at 9:30. Fox got some relief there in the spring as The Last Man on Earth (97) improved things at 9:30. Last Man will hope for some help from the NFL halo when it gets a whirl on the fall schedule.
