Spotted Ratings, Monday 8/25/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Depending on who you believe, NBC moved the Emmy Awards to a Monday in August either due to their preseason NFL contract or due to the competing MTV Video Music Awards. Either way, it didn't seem to hurt the Emmy ratings (4.2). The show was behind last year (4.9), but most to all of that gap can be explained by last year's 7.7 lead-in from an NFL overrun. It was in line with ratings from 2011 (4.2) and 2012 (3.9).
  • The stronger NBC did surprisingly miniscule damage to the competition. The only negative news was a new Under the Dome low (1.4), and even that was just a tenth behind its usual level. Hotel Hell (1.6) inched up to tie its season high.

I was disappointed that Modern Family one again, but at least it is better than Orange is the New Black winning (nothing personally against the show, but I don't think hourlongs should count in the comedy category). Honestly, I'd like to see The Middle get at least a nomination.

I wonder if FOX is up for ordering more episodes of Hotel Hell. It's done quite well for itself after hitting a low two weeks ago.

I would think so.

It's worth noting that, unlike Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsey has ownership of the production company behind Masterchef and Hotel Hell. I'd guess that's the major reason why Kitchen Nightmares is concluding, and not just its diminishing ratings.

That being said, I wonder whether the plan is to replace Ramsey on Hotel Hell. He's spread rather thin and hotels aren't exactly his area of expertise anyway.
