Spotted Ratings, Weekend Roundup 8/16-8/17/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  • If you're into repeat tea leaf reading, it was not a good start for what will be ABC's Friday fall lineup, as The Neighbors hung a pretty terrible number and brought Shark Tank down to easily its worst repeat rating of the summer.
  • The move to Friday was of no help to the CDub's Perfect Score, but America's Next Top Model gained back a tenth in week three.
  •  Week two of Hell on Wheels on AMC Saturday dropped a big chunk in total viewers (2.49m -> 1.88m) but was strangely steady in 18-49 (0.48 -> 0.48).

Hell on Wheels is doing very good for Saturday IMO. As for TN, I don't think it will do as awful as some are predicting but I don't think it will be pretty either, I think they should have renewed Malibu Country instead.

I would have picked up Malibu Country for 13 episodes to fill-in on Fridays just in case The Neighbors bombs out and drags Shark Tank with it. I'm guessing that Suburgatory may end up filling that role if needed.

I don't think Suburgatory would fit particularly well on a Friday. Besides, my Suburgatory theory is that with them ordering 4 new comedies, the chances of all 4 working are almost zero, which means that it is just a matter of seeing which one bombs first and Suburgatory will go right there, either Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Valid point, but I don't see ABC putting a freshman sitcom on Fridays unless it's already tanked. Of what's on tap for midseason, Suburgatory sticks out less as being out of place than Mixology. With the network having only those sitcoms as backup, two of the four fall comedies need to hit for ABC this season to avoid having to drag one across the finish line. So, good luck The Goldbergs and Super Fun Night...

Or, to get back to the Friday topic, the network could zag when we are expecting it to zig and start delivering 90 minute episodes of Shark Tank instead.

Oh I wasn't trying to imply that Mixology would end up on Friday, you're totally correct. The thing about Mixology is that, even though to happens the comedy that I liked the most from the trailers (from any broadcast), I don't think it is high on ABC's priority list and I think we will see it only in the spring - they will likely insist on finishing off one other comedy earlier to debut that one IMO, I don't see them using it as a replacement for a failed comedy early on.

I think that one of the comedies flop relatively fast, Suburgatory takes over, one other comedy finishes early, Mixology takes over. As for Friday, I think it is still possible that TN doesn't do as bad as we are saying. If it does, I think they will just double up on LMS after christmas, finish it earlier and have reality there for the remainder of the season. Then again, I never though we would have seen happy endings on fridays last year, so I could be totally wrong
