Cablemetrics: Westworld, The Walking Dead, Shameless, The Royals

These numbers are current through Monday, December 5.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • After a big penultimate week spike, Westworld followed it up on finale night by only staying flat week-to-week at a 1.02 demo. (However, it did set new highs in both total viewers and the 18-34 demos.) It still goes down as one of the cable elite, but a long wait for season two begins.

Cablemetrics: Shooter, The Librarians, Good Behavior, The Affair, Teen Wolf

These numbers are current through Monday, November 21.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • News events caused USA Network to bump its Ryan Philippe drama Shooter to the fall, and it opened last Tuesday with a 0.50 demo rating. This is a better raw rating than the last two dramas to launch after the WWE SmackDown franchise: Colony in January (0.44) and Queen of the South in June (0.45). However, SmackDown (which recently relocated to Tuesday) was also a lot stronger itself... it averaged a 0.96 leading into Shooter after getting roughly a 0.7 for those other two launches. So it may be a little premature to say that Shooter did way better. However, it did seem like a pretty good demographic fit with the wrestling, skewing sharply male at 59%.

Cablemetrics: The Librarians, Legends, Agent X, The Expanse

These numbers are current through Wednesday, December 30.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Though the broadcast networks almost completely shut down for business during the holiday weeks, cable had a surprising volume of scripted originals powering through. Many of those were on TNT, including the last episodes of cancelled Agent X (0.28/0.21) and Legends (0.15/0.09/0.10). The only real standout of the week was The Librarians (0.55); even with a nice finale spike, it was -42% in its sophomore season, but that still puts it a clear step ahead of most other TNT winter offerings.

Cablemetrics: The Librarians, Major Crimes, Legends, The Affair

These numbers are current through Thursday, November 5.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Most notable this week was TNT entering the scripted original game after sitting out the first couple months of the fall. Results were decidedly mixed:
    • Sophomore drama The Librarians was the top TNT 18-49 draw out of the gate, despite what may have been a tough scheduling break; it premiered with a 0.63 at 8/7c and dropped to 0.44 when facing The Walking Dead in its second hour. It'd be pretty solid if it can stay closer to the 0.63 half as it stays at 8/7c moving forward, though the year-to-year trend looks awful right now since it went up against the big 1.27 pilot a year ago.
