Young Sheldon was gone, but the CBS 8/7c comedy hour kept on trucking at almost the same levels as the spin-off got a spin-off in multi-cam Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. The other Thursday newbie, legal drama Matlock, was arguably just as impressive, demolishing last year's So Help Me Todd ratings. That bounce in the 9/8c hour was a boon to sophomore Elsbeth, which was consistently up from last year in the 10/9c hour.

Everybody stayed right around their fall levels in the winter. It was the softest period for Matlock, which had a few 0.3's in its first month out of the holiday hiatus.

Matlock finished quite strong, with its last episode on April 17 (0.48/151 Plus) producing a spike you don't usually see for scripted season-but-not-series finales. The comedies took a spring dip, typical of most years but worse than last year (which was the run-up to Sheldon's series finale).

Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage: If it wasn't a spin-off it would be an easy A, but since it was "just" a continuation of the last few years of Sheldon ratings I will be a bit more restrained. I can't help feeling that the return to the Big Bang multi-cam format was a wind at this show's back, and maybe there was a universe in which it was even stronger than Sheldon. Maybe that universe will come about in the future! Grade: A-.
Ghosts: 132/133/132 the last three years is crazy. You can make the case this was a bit underwhelming vs. last year since it got back into the fall, but I don't want to penalize it for the spring y2y numbers since the late-season Sheldon heat was probably propping it up a bit. Grade: B.
Matlock: A game-changer for CBS in an hour that's been a trouble spot pretty much since Big Bang ended. It was as strong as almost any of the 9/8c comedy hours during Big Bang's heyday, and sneaking up on the late-stage CSI and Person of Interest ratings from the early 2010's. Another one that's right on the cusp of A, and perhaps I'm grading on an unfair CBS curve but I think it was just a little less impressive than the eye's last two drama breakouts (Fire Country and Tracker). Grade: A-.
Elsbeth: Great sophomore bounce, but also largely if not mostly driven by the improvement from Todd to Matlock. Grade: B+.
