The Question, Monday 6/24/13: Will Ratings Go Over Or Under... the Dome?

Of all the broadcast networks' scripted offerings this summer, it's Stephen King-inspired Under the Dome that's gotten the most hype. If any of them work, it should be this one. CBS' promotion has been crazy by summer series standards, including a teaser during the Super Bowl in early February! Tonight it premieres after an hour of The Big Bang Theory, TV's best repeater, and it doesn't seem that unreasonable to expect it to grow on that audience.

Over/Under: 2.05.

CBS has been pushing this show for months and is giving it the best rerun lead-in it can. Over.

Side note: anyone else find it interesting that the broadcast networks are putting a lot of new/fresh programming in the 10:00 hour this summer? Rookie Blue and America's Got Talent are used to the hour, but this season there's Mistresses, Under the Dome, Crossing Lines, Camp, The Lookout, etc. I wonder if it's from affiliates complaining about weak summer lead-ins or a hope that the later hour is better in the summer as more people may be inside at that time...

Under at 1.5. Nothing has been working so far. Why should this be different?

A mix of both, perhaps?

Yeah, nice catch. It is weird, especially since PUT levels are typically lower, even in summer no? Spot can probably clarify it for us. But I would think your affiliates explanation is the right one

Those might factor in; in particular, the idea about HUT levels is something I'd never really looked at before, but it does appear that the 10:00 decline is a little less than in the regular season.

But overall I doubt it is any blanket reason. Sometimes it's because the best lead-ins might be 9:00 reality shows like Bachelorette or Got Talent. And sometimes it's because of where the scheduling holes open up in the summer; like Nashville wouldn't repeat well, so its slot needs something like The Lookout to get through the summer.
