Spotted Ratings, Thursday 5/10/18

FINALS UPDATE: Grey's Anatomy (1.9), The Big Bang Theory (2.9) and Young Sheldon (2.2) adjusted up while Quantico (0.4), Supernatural (0.4, -0.2) and Arrow (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • The wedding season finale on The Big Bang Theory (2.8) did not get the show anywhere close to its season premiere heights, but it was still ahead of last season's 2.7 finale, up at least four tenths from last week, and the show's best rating since February 1. And the momentum continued throughout the night, with Young Sheldon (2.1) up two tenths, the first half of the Mom finale (1.5) up a tenth from last week, Mom at 9:30 (1.3) handily outperforming Life in Pieces, and S.W.A.T. (0.9) also up a notch.
  • It was also a momentous night on Grey's Anatomy (1.8), which was up at least two tenths at 8/7c. But that was no help to Station 19 (0.9), which dropped at 9/8c. Quantico settled in at 0.5 at 10/9c.
  •  NBC also fared better than usual with a double-length Chicago Fire season finale (0.9/1.1), and Fox was up a tenth with Gotham (0.7) and Showtime At the Apollo (0.6). The CW (0.6/0.4) is pending a baseball preemption in New York.

FINALS UPDATE: The Big Bang Theory (2.4) and Gotham (0.6) adjusted up while Station 19 (1.0), Life in Pieces (1.0) and Showtime At the Apollo (0.5) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Numbers to come. NBC aired its final comedies of the 2017-18 regular season with the finales of Superstore, A.P. Bio and Champions.

Spotted Ratings, Thursday 4/26/18

FINALS UPDATE: Grey's Anatomy (1.5), The Big Bang Theory (2.0), Young Sheldon (1.8) and Supernatural (0.5) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC's Quantico (0.5) was back for season three to begin a 13-episode run that will extend deep into the summer. It led out of new season lows for Grey's Anatomy (1.4) and Station 19 (0.9). Quantico tied its lowest rating from last year, but last year it actually once had a 0.5 with a 1.8 lead-in!
  • On Fox, the NFL Draft (1.1/1.2/1.1) made its broadcast network debut with a simulcast of the NFL Network production. It was nowhere close to what the draft did on ESPN last year (2.78), but it will be worth keeping an eye on whether it made a dent in ESPN's usual delivery. In households, ESPN went from 4.8 last year to 3.9 this year.
  • There was a vintage Draft night bloodbath (with some help from The Avengers as well) on the other broadcast networks, especially in the 8:00 hour when the Draft is at its strongest. The Big Bang Theory (1.9) took a half-point hit, while Young Sheldon (1.7) was down two tenths, but CBS held up better later in the night with Mom (1.3), Life in Pieces (1.0) and S.W.A.T. (0.8).
  • NBC's Superstore (0.7) and A.P. Bio (0.5) fell to new lows in the 8:00 hour, while Champions held at 0.4 and Chicago Fire (0.9) was down a tenth. And the CW's Supernatural (0.4) and Arrow (0.3) were also on the low end.

    Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/8/17

FINALS UPDATE: Man with a Plan (1.0), Gotham (1.0) and Jane the Virgin (0.4) adjusted up while Quantico (0.5) adjusted down.

    WHAT MATTERS:
    • NBC's winter game show success The Wall (1.1) returned to the 10/9c hour to fill out the gap between Taken and the summer. While a big improvement on the last half of Taken's season, it was also much lower than the mid-1 ratings it was getting on Tuesday at 8/7c in the winter. It led out of an upticking from The Voice (1.9).
    • On CBS, it was a night of many finales as Kevin Can Wait (1.1), Superior Donuts (0.9) and The Great Indoors (0.7) all shed a tenth to finish out their seasons. Only Man with a Plan (0.9) and Scorpion (1.1) will return with originals next week.
    • In their second week back together, both Gotham (0.9) and Lucifer (0.9) were down a tenth.
    • ABC's Dancing with the Stars (1.5) also inched down, leading into another 0.6 from Quantico.
    • And at least preliminarily, the CW's Supergirl (0.6) and Jane the Virgin (0.3) came up from their lows.

    Spotted Ratings, Monday 5/1/17

FINALS UPDATE: Man with a Plan (1.0), Superior Donuts (1.0) and Scorpion (1.1) adjusted up.

    WHAT MATTERS:
    • After more than three months off the air, Lucifer returned to Fox with a 1.0 demo rating, matching its lead-in from Gotham (1.0). This was below what Lucifer had been doing in the much more favorable January, but it had several points around this rating in the fall.
    • On CBS, Kevin Can Wait (1.2) got a bit of a bump with a guest spot from Kevin James' King of Queens co-star Leah Remini. But it was a terrible night for the rest of the comedies, with Man with a Plan (0.9) and Superior Donuts (0.9) both crashing to new lows. So did The Great Indoors (0.8), as it took over for 2 Broke Girls to air its last two eps on Monday. Scorpion (1.0) looked positive next to the comedies but it was also on the downswing.
    • The other three networks looked pretty similar to last week, with The Voice (1.7/1.8) down a bit on NBC leading into Taken (0.8) while Dancing with the Stars (1.5/1.6) and Quantico (0.6) were even-ish. The CW didn't get any bounce back from last week's Supergirl (0.5) and Jane the Virgin (0.2) low points.

FINALS UPDATE: Gotham (1.0) adjusted up while Quantico (0.5) and Scorpion (R) (0.6) adjusted down.

    WHAT MATTERS:
    • Numbers and analysis coming shortly. Monday highlights include the return of Gotham on Fox after nearly three months off, plus Supergirl and Jane the Virgin coming back to originals on the CW.

    Spotted Ratings, Monday 4/17/17

FINALS UPDATE: Dancing with the Stars (1.8) and Kevin Can Wait (1.1) adjusted up while Quantico (0.5) adjusted down.

    WHAT MATTERS:
    • A Disney-themed edition of ABC's Dancing with the Stars (1.7/1.8) surged to its best rating in at least three weeks, putting it above the year-ago airing in raw numbers for the first time since the season premiere. But its lead-in Quantico was stuck at 0.6.
    • Elsewhere, it was mostly more of the same, including steady showings from CBS' 2 Broke Girls (1.0) and Fox's 24: Legacy (0.8) in their season or series finales. CBS was at 1.0 across the board for its comedy lineup, which made Kevin Can Wait (1.0) look a lot worse than usual, but looked good in the 10/9c hour as Scorpion (1.1) was on the uptick. 24 led into a fourth consecutive 0.6 from APB.
    • On NBC, The Voice (2.0) was preliminarily down a notch, leading into Taken (0.9) which was preliminarily up a notch.
    • And the CW finished out its final Supergirl hiatus with another repeat (0.2).
