Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 6/12/18

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.3) and Beat Shazam (0.8) adjusted up while World of Dance (1.4), The Flash (R) (0.2) and The 100 (R) (0.1, -0.2) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• NBC's America's Got Talent (2.0/2.3) and World of Dance (1.5) were even to narrowly down in their third weeks, remaining down some in Plus from the year-ago performance.

• ABC joined the original game on Tuesday with the premiere of Viola Davis-produced documentary series The Last Defense (0.5) at 10/9c. The Fox game shows (0.7/0.5) and 48 Hours: NCIS (0.5) matched last week.

FINALS UPDATE: Splitting Up Together (R) (0.4) and World of Dance (1.5) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• America's Got Talent (2.0/2.3) took a pretty big hit in week two, down at least three tenths from last week's premiere and now down in Plus vs. last year's enormous levels. At 10/9c, World of Dance (1.6) at least preliminarily appears to have held up better (though it's coming from a very high 1.7 last week).

• They were still miles and miles ahead of the competition, as Fox's game shows Beat Shazam (0.7) and Love Connection (0.5) each shed a tenth to hit the low end of their season one ratings. The 100 (0.3) returned even with two weeks ago on the CW, and CBS' 48 Hours: NCIS (0.5) was also steady.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/29/18

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.5) adjusted up while World of Dance (1.7), The Flash (R) (0.2) and The 100 (R) (0.1, -0.2) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• NBC opened another summer of overwhelming Tuesday returns with the premieres of America's Got Talent (2.3/2.6) and World of Dance (1.8). For Talent, it was a league average decline or less vs. last summer's huge 2.7 premiere. World of Dance declined more severely vs. last year's 2.4 series premiere, but was basically in line with the high-1's it pulled throughout the rest of its rookie run.

• Fox put last year's game show duo of Beat Shazam (0.8) and Love Connection (0.6) up against Got Talent. The shows were down huge from last year's series premieres on a Thursday (1.2/1.1), but this is basically where these shows settled throughout the second half of last summer. The only other broadcast original was CBS newsmagazine 48 Hours: NCIS (0.5).

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/22/18

FINALS UPDATE: Roseanne (2.5) and NCIS (1.3) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:

• ABC said goodbye to nine-season comedy staple The Middle, which averaged a 1.8 in its regular 8:30 timeslot and fell to 1.6 for the second half of the one-hour finale. Though The Middle couldn't get back to its levels from the early Roseanne weeks, this was up multiple tenths from what it's been doing earlier this month. Its lead-in Roseanne (2.4) ended the spring on a season low, and Splitting Up Together (1.0) didn't look so hot leading out of Middle at 9:30. For the People headed into a long off-season with its third 0.5 in the final four weeks.

• On NBC, The Voice completed its limp to the finish with a 1.5/1.4 for its two-hour finale from 9:00 to 11:00. Even though it didn't have to go up against Dancing with the Stars like in previous years, this will be down considerably from last spring's 1.9 finale. (Last spring's finale also had to lead out of Great News (0.7/0.8), while this one got a Voice recap (1.1).)

• CBS' NCIS (1.2) ended the season even or narrowly down, leading into a repeat (0.7) and the return of newsmagazine 48 Hours: NCIS (0.5). The CW's The Flash (0.8) ended the season well, but it was no help to The 100 which was stuck at 0.3. Fox went with a movie (0.4/0.5).

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.7) adjusted up while The Middle (R) (0.5), The Flash (R) (0.1) and iZombie (0.2) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• Week two of NBC's largely-unchecked Tuesday dominance saw America's Got Talent (2.6) come very close to last week's premiere rating. Whether it adjusts up to tie the premiere or not, it will crush the year-ago 2.3 for the second week. At 10/9c, World of Dance (1.9) was down about 20% from last week's breakthrough premiere, but still an absurd improvement on last year's occupant Maya and Marty.

• Elsewhere, iZombie is hoping to hang onto what would be its first 0.4 since the season premiere if it can hold in finals. After last week's big drop, Downward Dog stayed at 0.7 this time.

FINALS UPDATE: America's Got Talent (2.7) and Lethal Weapon (R) (0.6) adjusted up while Imaginary Mary (0.5) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• NBC began what will be a summer of Tuesday dominance with the return of America's Got Talent (2.6) leading into a true breakout showing from new reality series World of Dance (2.4) at 10/9c. Got Talent incredibly tied the raw number of each of its last two season premieres, while World of Dance was sixty percent ahead of last year's Maya and Marty premiere.

• ABC had the second Tuesday episode of Downward Dog (0.7), which fell flat as it was joined by comedies instead of Dancing with the Stars this time.

• Elsewhere, it was a surprisingly heavy night for leftover originals from regular season series. That included the finales of Prison Break (0.9) on Fox, which had a redemptive bounce-back, and Imaginary Mary (0.6) on ABC. The CW's iZombie (0.3) began its summer run by building from a repeat of The Flash (0.2). And CBS had 48 Hours: NCIS (0.5) back at 10/9c leading out of drama repeats.

Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 5/23/17

FINALS UPDATE: Dancing with the Stars (1.4) adjusted up while iZombie (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• ABC and NBC both had comedies leading into their reality tentpole finales with mixed results. The maneuver helped Downward Dog (1.0) hold up rather nicely in its first week on Tuesday, but it seemingly did no favors for the 150-minute Dancing with the Stars finale (1.3) itself; it was down a whooping half point from the Monday performance finale, and three tenths behind the year-ago Tuesday finale.

• Meanwhile, NBC's Great News (0.7/0.8) at least rallied by a touch from its low points last week, and The Voice (1.8/1.9) widened its usual lead over DWTS from 9:00 to 11:00; this was a similar Plus to last spring's 2.2 finale.

• On CBS, Bull (1.1) was left alone to air its season finale with a repeat NCIS (0.9) lead-in, and fell to tie its series low from a month ago. It led into another edition of 48 Hours: NCIS (0.6) at 10/9c.

• Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.7/0.6) was steady, but Prison Break (0.7) crashed to a new low against the reality finales.

• And the CW was preliminarily on the uptick with the season finale of The Flash (1.1) and iZombie (0.4). If it holds, it would be the highest rating for Flash in almost three months.

Spotted Ratings, Friday 5/12/17

FINALS UPDATE: Shark Tank (0.9) and 48 Hours: NCIS (0.7) adjusted up while The Originals (0.3) and Reign (0.2) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• ABC's Shark Tank (0.8) finished out another season in weirdly dreadful fashion, falling two tenths behind its previous season low. It can blame its surroundings to some degree, as The Toy Box fell to a new low 0.5 while 20/20 (0.6) was at its lowest mark since Thanksgiving weekend.

• ABC's loss was CBS' gain, as the Hawaii Five-0 finale (1.0) was on the upswing. It had some help from a recharged (and celebrity-themed) Undercover Boss (0.9). The network then tried another episode of newsmagazine 48 Hours: NCIS (0.6) at 10/9c.

• On the CW, The Originals (0.4) and Reign (0.3) were bigger than usual in the prelims, but often that means preemptions...

• And NBC was even with First Dates (0.7) and Dateline (0.8) while Fox stayed in repeat mode (0.3/0.3).

FINALS UPDATE: Agents of SHIELD (0.7) and The Mick (0.9) adjusted up while 48 Hours: NCIS (0.6) and iZombie (0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:

• NBC's new comedy Great News opened with a 1.2 demo at 9:00, slipping to a 1.0 at 9:30. This is just barely worse than the opening weeks of Trial & Error, which had much bigger lead-ins. The next question is if News can avoid the big week two drop that T&E saw in its second week in the 9:00 hour.
• Surrounding News were even The Voice (1.8) and Chicago Fire (1.3).

• On ABC, there were three comedy repeats (0.8/0.8/0.8) leading into an original Imaginary Mary (0.8), while Agents of SHIELD (0.6) finally fell back to its usual low from the winter.

• Fox was even across the board with Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.7), The Mick (0.8 after sitting out last week) and Prison Break (0.9).

• CBS had drama repeats (0.7/0.8) leading into a preview of new newsmagazine 48 Hours: NCIS (0.7), which will be back to this slot in a month to eat up some early summer real estate.

• And The Flash (1.0) returned from hiatus, ticking up from its last ep in late March. It brought iZombie (0.4) up by a tick as well.
