The Breakdown: Fox Monday in 2022-23 (9-1-1, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, The Cleaning Lady and more!)

It's time for a journey through the Fox Monday schedule in 2022-23...

The still potent 9-1-1 returned with another rock solid fall, and this year Fox shored up the 9/8c hour somewhat with sophomore The Cleaning Lady. It couldn't get back to its strong levels from the first half of season one, instead mostly hitting its late-season one numbers in Plus and falling off a bit more late, but it was still a massive improvement on year ago megabomb The Big Leap.

Fox brought out new drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit in the winter, but it had absolutely no help as the summer 2021 drama Fantasy Island finally returned and proved unfit for the regular season schedule. Every single Monday episode of Alert was at flop levels, but it also built on Fantasy Island every time they were paired, and it was able to score a renewal.

Five more Fantasy Island episodes shifted to the 9/8c hour and didn't benefit from the 9-1-1 lead-in, taking Fox back to The Big Leap-esque levels. 9-1-1 had a somewhat rocky spring as well, hitting its four lowest episodes in Plus in series history.

9-1-1: Despite sputtering down the stretch, 9-1-1 concludes a very consistent six-season run on Fox in which each season rated between 141 and 169. Next stop: ABC. Grade: C+.

Fantasy Island: It actually had a slightly higher Plus than season one (46), but (sort of like with Bachelor in Paradise) you have to be a bit careful when comparing summer seasons with regular season ones, especially considering it got to air after 9-1-1 and completely faltered. It's a shame that Fox wasted its last run of 9-1-1 lead-ins on this. Grade: D.

The Cleaning Lady: I said last year that it looked a lot like Prodigal Son, and I think this is basically what would've happened with Prodigal Son if it hadn't gotten exiled to Tuesday. Pretty mediocre, but The Big Leap and Fantasy Island have proven the network can do way worse. Grade: C.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit: It's hard to even evaluate this show considering it aired almost entirely with a Fantasy Island lead-in. The 8/7c hour following local programming would've been much better. It's not necessarily a trivial thing for any 9/8c show to build on its 8/7c lead-in, but it was still at flop levels for the entire Monday run. It got renewed, so we'll get another chance to evaluate. Grade: C.
