Let's take a look at the 2011-12 season (the twelfth overall) of CSI on CBS.
Rating the Ratings: Of all the timeslot moves CBS has made in recent years, this seems like one of the more effective ones in the short term. CSI was struggling against the pressure of its own former ratings on Thursday, where it sometimes finished in fourth place and ranked among CBS' weakest 9/8c shows. On Wednesday, with new leads and new circumstances, it felt rather rejuvenated. CSI dropped just 8%, its smallest year-to-year drop in six years. It also put a beating on NBC's procedural competition in the hour (Law and Order: SVU) and ended up as the second-biggest 10:00 drama of the season (behind just Hawaii Five-0). Overall, it feels like CBS' lineup of veterans on Wednesday worked pretty well from start to finish, and it'll get another go in 2012-13. Grade: B.
