A18-49+: Networks Update! (2019-25)
Happy Premiere Week!
Last week I went back and updated some of my new show metrics, and today, with a new season dawning, I'm gonna take a look at how the network race has shaken out over that same period. I talked extensively about the 1999-01 seasons for the networks when introducing that data, so I will just leave it to the six seasons that have happened since the last update (2019-25). Here's the full table of the networks' original, non-sports series averages in every regular season:

A18-49+: New Shows Update! (1999-01, 2019-25)
Not sure if anyone remembers the good old days when I used to do a post evaluating the strength of each class of broadcast scripted newbies, but it has been a minute. My last one of these updates was for the 2018-19 season, plus I've since added two seasons of data on the back end (1999-00 and 2000-01).
I was inspired to go back and take a look at these numbers because while doing The Breakdown, as I got the impression that the new class of 2024-25 was one of the more promising ones in recent years. It was a decent one historically, but what really stands out is just how rotten the 2019-24 period was for broadcast development, and how drastically the quantity of total newbies has fallen. COVID and the writers' strike played big roles in that, but it's also worth wondering if it's an irreversible structural problem in an era of incredibly fractured attention. However, 2024-25 offered some hope that the big four can still do at least somewhat better than they've been doing.
I'm gonna quickly catch up on all these missing seasons, not yapping quite as much as I did in past editions, though I'm gonna zero out some of the 1999-00 stuff because I don't think my number of total 1999-00 shows is reliable. You can combine this post with the old one for a complete record of the era (though I haven't updated the old post yet because of the logistical issues with the 1999-00 season).

A18-49+ Season Comparison Chart (thru 2024-25)
Career A18-49+ Sortable Table (thru 2024-25)
This is the Career A18-49+ sortable table, with A18-49+ numbers that can
be used to evaluate the full run of a series. This includes Career A18-49+,
the sum of each individual season's historical-adjusted A18-49 rating,
as well as how many times each show went over some of the A18-49+ label thresholds.
A few quick notes about what's in here:
- This includes all 167 broadcast scripted series with a career A18-49+ total of 300 or higher. Unlike in previous years, that means a handful of netlet shows are in the mix (though of course they can be filtered out easily). The 45 "hit for CW" and 35 "solid for CW" labels are applied to the "hit" and "solid" counts for those shows.
- This number will be incomplete for shows that aired before 1999, but to help account for this, the number of missing seasons is included in parentheses under the "Seasons" column. You can also filter in or out the shows that have missing seasons, as well as the shows still "active" (and thus still adding to their counts).
