The Breakdown: NBC Sunday in 2018-19 (World of Dance, Good Girls)

It's time for a journey through the NBC Sunday schedule in 2018-19...

The NFL had a nice bounce-back season; Thursday Night Football improved in Fox's acquisition, and Sunday Night Football went back on the Plus uptick after taking a surprising league average-ish drop the previous season.

NBC, as usual, did nothing but wait for the Oscars in the winter.

Then NBC brought another summer regular into the regular season; after two summer seasons, World of Dance took on the NBC spring Sunday duties in 2019. At least in the spring comparisons, it was not an improvement on the final season of Little Big Shots, but it managed to improve the two-hour period since it was a lot stronger than last year's Genius Junior. At 10/9c, Good Girls was not much change from last year's Timeless.

World of Dance: Not even beating the last season of a crumbling Little Big Shots makes this a bit of a disappointment, since WoD had managed to hang league average-ish ratings even left on its own in summer 2018. But I'm not gonna be too hard on it since facing off with American Idol was a pretty tough thing to ask. Grade: C.

Good Girls: It gets the same grade as season two of Timeless, because it took basically the same year-to-year drop as Timeless last year, coming in a relatively similar timeslot downgrade. (It aired in the spring vs. fall for Timeless, but Timeless also had to endure some winter episodes without The Voice.) In the end, I think if you squint you could say it was a teeny bit stronger than Timeless, but it was probably renewed for non-ratings reasons and not because of that tiny difference. Grade: C-.
