Spotted Ratings, Sunday 8/12/18

FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (1.6) and Teen Choice Awards (0.4) adjusted up while 60 Minutes (R) (1.1, -0.2) and NCIS: Los Angeles (R) (0.5, -0.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Thanks to overrun from the PGA Championship, which was massively up year-to-year, the CBS primetime lineup was delayed by 20 minutes. CBS averaged a 1.5 in the 8:00 hour (which included 40 minutes of the Big Brother episode on the East Coast).
  • ABC's game shows (1.0/0.8/0.7) matched last week while NBC's Shades of Blue (0.6) is preliminarily eyeing its first 0.6 since the season premiere. And on Fox, it was another step down for the already tiny-rated Teen Choice Awards (0.3/0.4), which averaged a 0.5 each of the previous two years.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 7/15/18

WHAT MATTERS:
  • CBS' Big Brother (1.4) was up for the second straight Sunday, expanding its lead on Celebrity Family Feud (1.0) which (at least preliminarily) fell to a new season low. ABC's The $100,000 Pyramid (0.9) was even while To Tell the Truth (0.8) was up a tick (though it had a 0.8 in prelims last week before adjusting down).

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 7/8/18

FINALS UPDATE: The Simpsons (R) (0.5) adjusted up while To Tell the Truth (0.7) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC's game shows were close to their last originals from two weeks ago, with Celebrity Family Feud (1.1) down a notch and The $100,000 Pyramid (0.9) and To Tell the Truth (0.8) both even.
  • But CBS' Big Brother (1.3) came out on top in the first head-to-head with the Feud, ticking up from its Sunday premiere last week. (Feud looks better on a year-to-year basis, as it lost this matchup 1.8 to 1.3 a year-ago.)
  • And on NBC, Running Wild (0.3) got a severe downgrade to the Sunday 7/6 hour and lost half of its usual Monday audience. Shades of Blue posted another 0.5 at 10/9c.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 7/1/18

FINALS UPDATE: Bob's Burgers (R) (0.6) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC's game shows went into repeat mode (0.8/0.7/0.6), so CBS pretty much had the stage to itself with the Sunday premiere of Big Brother (1.2). Like the Wednesday (1.5) and Thursday (1.4) premieres, it was down two tenths year-to-year (or a bit more than a league average decline). Big Bro was absolutely no help to incompatible lead-out Instinct (0.4), which was actually down week-to-week despite a much larger lead-in.
  • The only other original on broadcast, NBC's Shades of Blue (0.5), matched last week.

FINALS UPDATE: America's Funniest Home Videos (R) (0.7) adjusted up while The $100,000 Pyramid (0.9) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Full table will be posted next week.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 6/17/18

FINALS UPDATE: The $100,000 Pyramid (1.0) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • It was back to earth for ABC's Sunday Fun & Games as Celebrity Family Feud (1.1) plummeted by a massive seven tenths vs. last week's Kardashian-fueled premiere. The show was up 20% year-to-year last week but actually down about the same amount vs. last year's week 2.
  • Later in the night, The $100,000 Pyramid (0.9) also took a sizable fall (though it matched week two of last year which aired at 10/9c), while To Tell the Truth (0.8) suddenly looked a lot more respectable as it matched last week's premiere.
  • On NBC, Shades of Blue (0.6) returned for its third and final season at 10/9c, coming in below the low point of last season (which also aired on Sunday at 10/9c but during the spring). It led out of an America's Got Talent encore (0.5/0.8).

FINALS UPDATE: Billboard Music Awards (2.6), Bob's Burgers (0.8) and Family Guy (1.1) adjusted up while America's Funniest Home Videos (0.8) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC took over on the last Sunday of the season with the Billboard Music Awards (2.1/2.5/2.4). The show adjusted up three tenths last year in its first live-in-all-time-zones telecast, but it's still looking at close to a 20% year-to-year decline vs. last year's 3.2 final.
  • With the highest-rated shows on NBC and CBS sitting out, the only broadcast show outside of ABC to crack a 1.0 was the one-hour finale of Family Guy (1.0). It followed the finales of Bob's Burgers (0.7), The Simpsons (0.9) and Making History (0.6).
  • CBS had two hours of 60 Minutes (0.8/0.8) plus the season-enders for Madam Secretary (0.7) and Elementary (0.5), while NBC had two hours apiece of Dateline (0.8/0.9) and Shades of Blue (0.7/0.7).

FINALS UPDATE: NCIS: Los Angeles (1.2) adjusted up while The Simpsons (R) (0.4) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC featured the two-hour Not-So-Final Battle on Once Upon a Time (0.9), leading out of a retrospective special (0.8) at 7/6c. It was three tenths behind the year-ago finale but up a tenth from last week's musical. Then came another episode of Match Game (0.6) in the 10/9c hour, which fell to tie the low point from its 9/8c run.
  • With its fate still inexplicably up in the air, Chicago Justice (1.1) aired another episode at 9/8c and was on the upswing. Its lead-in Little Big Shots (1.3) and lead-out Shades of Blue (0.9) were also up, with Shades a particular highlight in hitting its best rating since week two of the season.
  • Fox's comedies took the night off in favor of Miss USA (0.6/0.9). It took a brutal year-to-year drop in its second year on Fox, after averaging a 1.2 in June a year ago.
  • And CBS had its own upticks in the first half of the night with 60 Minutes (1.0) and NCIS: Los Angeles (1.1), while Madam Secretary (0.7) and Elementary (0.6) were even.

FINALS UPDATE: Little Big Shots (R) (0.6) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC livened up the second half of its primetime a bit with a two-hour documentary on the last 100 days of Princess Diana (0.9). But it didn't help out the first half of the night, where America's Funniest Home Videos (1.0) and the much-promoted musical episode of Once Upon a Time (0.8) were each down from last week.
  • NBC also gave back its upticks from a week ago, with Little Big Shots (1.2) eyeing a new low in the prelims and Chicago Justice (1.0) and Shades of Blue (0.7) also down by a notch.
  • On Fox, the one-hour finale of The Last Man on Earth (0.7) hit a new series low at an inopportune moment, with a worse lead-in than usual from Making History (0.6). The Simpsons (1.0) was even while Bob's Burgers (0.9) did better than usual for a 7:30 episode.
  • CBS was up a tick at 7:00 with 60 Minutes (0.9) and at 10:00 with Elementary (0.6), sandwiching steady NCIS: Los Angeles (1.0) and Madam Secretary (0.7).

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/30/17

FINALS UPDATE: America's Funniest Home Videos (1.2) and Chicago Justice (1.1) adjusted up while Little Big Shots (R) (0.7) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • In a rare twist, it was a mostly even or up Sunday for broadcast TV. The highlight was NBC's Little Big Shots (1.5) picking up by two tenths from its recent level. Chicago Justice held at 1.0 while Shades of Blue was up to 0.8 for the first time in over a month.
  • Fox's animated anchors The Simpsons (1.0) and Family Guy (1.2) were both up in their returns from hiatus, but nothing at the bottoms of the hours saw any benefit; Bob's Burgers (0.7) inched down while live-actioners Making History (0.6) and The Last Man on Earth (0.8) were both even.
  • ABC had another NBA-boosted high-end America's Funniest Home Videos (1.1), and this time it spilled into upticks for Once Upon a Time (0.9), Match Game (0.8) and the American Crime (0.4) finale.
  • CBS actually had the worst night by merely breaking even across the board with 60 Minutes (0.8), NCIS: Los Angeles (1.0), Madam Secretary (0.7) and Elementary (0.5).

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/23/17

FINALS UPDATE: America's Funniest Home Videos (1.1), Little Big Shots (1.3), Bob's Burgers (0.8) and The Last Man on Earth (0.8) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Little Big Shots (1.2) was back from its Easter break, and will have to hope for some finals help to avoid a new low. Chicago Justice (1.0) was on the uptick, while Shades of Blue stuck at 0.7.
  • On ABC, it was a nice night for America's Funniest Home Videos (1.0), which typically seems to benefit from the network's late-afternoon NBA playoff games at this time of year. Once Upon a Time (0.8) and Match Game (0.7) were also up a notch from last week's Easter results, but American Crime (0.3) fell to tie its low (from the night that got Time After Time pulled).
  • Fox was back to originals, but the animated anchors were still off. That meant another original double-dip for Bob's Burgers (0.7 at 7:30/0.9 at 8:00), an even Making History (0.6), a repeat of Family Guy (0.8) and a sinking The Last Man on Earth (0.7).
  • And the CBS dramas NCIS: Los Angeles (1.0), Madam Secretary (0.7) and Elementary (0.5) all tied season lows.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/16/17

FINALS UPDATE: Bob's Burgers (R) (0.4) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • On Easter Sunday, NBC's Little Big Shots went into repeat mode in the 8:00 hour (0.8), but its lead-out dramas Chicago Justice (0.9) and Shades of Blue (0.7) held up OK, with Justice inching back down to tie its low from two weeks ago.
  • ABC had a special on Disney nature documentaries (0.6) in the 7/6 hour, leading into Once Upon a Time (0.7), Match Game (0.6) and American Crime (0.4). Like Justice, Match Game inched down to match its season low, while the surrounding dramas held steady.
  • CBS had the best Easter by a long shot thanks to a nice showing from a two-hour special on The Bee Gees (1.2). But that lead-in was of no help to Elementary (0.6) at 10/9c.
  • And Fox's comedy repeats (0.3/0.6/0.4/0.6/0.4) did a good bit worse than last week, perhaps hurt by a repeat Ice Age special (0.3) in the lead-off role.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/9/17

FINALS UPDATE: 60 Minutes (1.6), Madam Secretary (0.8) and Chicago Justice (1.0) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • CBS' coverage of an extended finish to the Masters overran all the way to the end of the 7:00 hour on the East Coast, putting 60 Minutes (1.5), NCIS: Los Angeles (1.1) and Madam Secretary (0.7) on the air an hour after their scheduled times while Elementary was preempted.
  • On NBC, there was no bounce-back from last week's carnage against the Academy of Country Music Awards; in fact, Little Big Shots (1.3), Chicago Justice (0.9) and Shades of Blue (0.7) all matched last week's lows.
  • ABC's Once Upon a Time (0.7) gave up a tenth for a second straight week, dropping to a new low, but had a minor consolation as Match Game (0.7) grew a tenth from last week's return. American Crime stayed at 0.4.
  • And Fox began a hiatus for its comedy lineup (0.4/0.5/0.8/0.6/0.8/0.5), which will also sit out next week on Easter.

Spotted Ratings, Sunday 4/2/17

FINALS UPDATE: Little Big Shots (1.3) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • ABC saw some improvement in its last two hours by replacing cancelled Time After Time with Match Game (0.6). Still, the game show went well below the lowest rating (0.9) of its winter Wednesday run.
  • Almost everything else on broadcast was on the decline, but no drop was more ugly than Little Big Shots (1.2). Its lead-outs Chicago Justice (0.9) and Shades of Blue (0.7) inched down again, as did Once Upon a Time (0.8) on ABC.
  • Fox's comedies were also on the downswing, including a new low for Making History (0.6). The Simpsons (0.9) and The Last Man on Earth (0.8) at least looked OK on a year-to-year basis, especially since LMOE had a repeat lead-in from Family Guy (0.7).
