Spotted Ratings, Monday 8/21/17

FINALS UPDATE: Bachelor in Paradise (1.3) and American Ninja Warrior (1.3) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Monday primetime got a shake-up thanks to a presidential address in the 9:00 half-hour on the East Coast, breaking up the Bachelor in Paradise (1.4 from 8:00-9:00; 1.3 from 9:30-10:00 and 1.0 for the 10:00 half-hour), American Ninja Warrior (1.4 from 8:00-9:00; 1.3 from 9:30-10:00 and 1.1 for the 10:00 half-hour) and So You Think You Can Dance (0.7 from 8:00-9:00; 0.6 from 9:30-10:00 and 0.8 for the 10:00 half-hour) telecasts into two chunks.
  • ABC preempted BiP lead-out To Tell the Truth in favor of a Black-ish repeat (0.6), while NBC aired Midnight, Texas (0.6) in its entirety starting at 10:30 ET.

FINALS UPDATE: Bachelor in Paradise (1.6) adjusted up while The Gong Show (0.7) and Midnight, Texas (0.7) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • After months of controversy, ABC's Bachelor in Paradise (1.5) returned to healthy ratings, topping its own 1.4 premiere from a year ago and even outrating some of the mid-section of the recently wrapped The Bachelorette season. It led into a special Monday edition of The Gong Show (0.8) at 10/9c, boosting that series to its best numbers since its first couple weeks.
  • On NBC, American Ninja Warrior (1.4) inched back down and narrowly lost the head-to-head with Paradise, while Midnight, Texas clung to 0.8 again at 10/9c.
  • And Fox improved its overall Monday average by expanding So You Think You Can Dance (0.7) to a second hour.

Spotted Ratings, Monday 8/7/17

WHAT MATTERS:
  • In typical The Bachelorette fashion, the season finale vaulted to a new season high by a wide margin. The y2y comparisons are not in the table since it was in a different week this year, but it was down four tenths (or essentially even in Plus) vs. last year's 2.5 finale. This marked a departure from the typical Bachelor/ette finale night, which usually has a two-hour finale + After the Final Rose (which got a 2.3 last year).
  • Despite the bigger ABC, NBC's American Ninja Warrior (1.5) inched up to tie its season high, and Midnight, Texas hung onto 0.8 in its third episode.

FINALS UPDATE: To Tell the Truth (0.7) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • To Tell the Truth (0.8) took up yet another new timeslot, at 10/9c after The Bachelorette (1.5/1.4). The show improved on its recent run of 0.6's on Wednesday after comedy repeats, and was also much higher than ABC's recent scripted offerings in the Monday 10/9c hour.
  • TTTT tied NBC's Midnight, Texas (0.8), which was down just a tenth in its second week. It led out of a steady American Ninja Warrior (1.4).
    • There were a couple other low-key maneuvers on this Monday, including CBS debuting newsmagazine CBSN: On Assignment (0.4) in the 10/9c hour. Also, the CW swapped Hooten and the Lady (0.2) over to the night, while Whose Line Is It Anyway? will make the move to Thursday later in the week.
